Primary School Summer Update
September 11, 2026
Principal's message
We made it through another great week! š Our students are really settling into their routines, and it has been wonderful to see them becoming more comfortable, confident, and connected each day. The building is definitely feeling more and more like our Primary School! This week we began our beginning-of-the-year DIBELS assessments. These assessments give our teachers important information about our studentsā early literacy skills and help us determine how we can best support each child as they grow as readers. Our teachers are working hard to make the experience as comfortable and positive as possible for our students.
šø Picture Day ā September 15th & 16th
Picture Day is Tuesday, September 15th and Wednesday, September 16th. Please see the section below for important information regarding Picture Day, including your childās scheduled day and how to order pictures.
šµ Dot Day ā Monday, September 14th!
Next Monday, September 14th, we will celebrate Dot Day! We are moving our celebration to Monday because we have Picture Day on Tuesday and Wednesday. We encourage everyone to wear dots on Monday! Polka dots, big dots, little dots, colorful dotsā¦you get the idea! š We can't wait to see the building covered in dots! Dot Day is a wonderful reminder that a simple dot can be the beginning of something amazingāand that everyone has the ability to make their mark!
š One Quick Morning Arrival Reminder
Now that our ELC friends are officially part of our Primary School family, their school day begins at 9:00 a.m. This does mean that our morning arrival routine may look a little different at times.
If you arrive in the morning and do not see Mr. Smith or Mrs. Squier outside, please park your car and walk your child into the building. Our ELC staff are unable to accept Primary School students during arrival. We know that mornings can sometimes feel like a race against the clock, and we appreciate your patience as we continue to get everyone into the building safely and smoothly. Our goal is to make sure every student has a safe and successful start to their day. ā¤ļø
š« School Advisory Council ā Parent Representatives
We are excited to invite families to get involved with our School Advisory Council!
State law mandates that each school have a school council composed of the principal, teachers, parents, and community representatives. The council serves as an advisory group to the principal and meets monthly to provide input on our School Improvement Plan, parent handbook, and school budget. Every year we hold a vote, if you are interested in serving on the School Advisory Council, please put your name on the ballot by completing the Google Form below with your full name and email address by Friday, September 18th.
Parent voting will take place during the week of September 21st via Google Form.
š School Advisory Council Parent Ballot
Our first School Advisory Council meeting will be Monday, September 28th. The council will meet monthly from 4:00ā5:00 p.m on the third Monday of the month. We would love to have parents who are interested in being involved, sharing ideas, and helping us continue to make Lunenburg Primary School the best it can be for our students. ā¤ļø
Thank you for your continued support, patience, and partnership. We are so grateful for our Primary School families and the wonderful energy you bring to our school community each day.
Have a fabulous weekend and start looking for those DOTS! šµā«š£
Warmly,
Principal Squier

From Nurse Chelsea:
FIRST GRADE ONLY
September 11, 2026
Dear Parent or Legal guardians of 1st Grade students:
This letter is to let you know about the Body Mass Index (BMI) Screening Program that will be happening soon at your childās school.
A Body Mass Index, or BMI, is a measure that is used to show a personās āweight for height for age.ā It is calculated using an individualās height and weight. Just like a blood pressure reading or an eye screening test, a BMI can be a useful tool in identifying possible health risks, but it does not provide a diagnosis.
Massachusetts schools have taken heights and weights of students each year since the 1950ās. According to the stateās BMI screening regulations (which were approved in 2013), schools must now collect the heights and weights of students in grades 1, 4, 7 and 10. BMI data collected for all children in these grades will be gathered and reported to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health as a combined number. No individual student BMI results will be shared with anyone other than you.
The school nurse will supervise your childās screening and will make sure your childās privacy is respected at all times. The results of your childās height, weight, and BMI measurements are strictly confidential ā the results will be kept in your childās school health record and will not be shared with anyone without your written permission.
All children in grades 1, 4, 7 and 10 will have their height and weight measured and will have their Body Mass Index (BMI) calculated at this time. Parents and/or legal guardians can request in writing that their child not participate in the screening. This letter should be addressed to the school nurse.
Please feel free to call me at 978-582-4122 x 5 with any questions you may have about the BMI screening. Additional information about childrenās wellness and fitness is available upon request or you may access the stateās resources at www.mass.gov/massinmotion/.
Sincerely,
Chelsea Drake, MSN RN NCSN

Physical Education: Mr. Guimmond
Welcome back to PE!
Mr. Guimond here, and I cannot wait for an amazing year of movement, play, and fun together!
In PE, we're building essential skills like running, jumping, throwing, catching, and balancing while learning what it means to be a great teammate. We'll work on sharing space, following directions, and showing true sportsmanship. Here's the thing thoughāeffort and improvement matter way more than perfection! Every student will feel comfortable trying new things, and it's totally okay if something doesn't click the first time. We celebrate the journey, not just the destination.
One quick thing: please make sure your child wears comfortable clothes and athletic sneakers on PE days so they're ready to move safely and confidently. Have questions or concerns? I'm here for you at dguimond@lunenburgschools.net
Let's get moving!
LYSA families invited:
September Breakfast and Lunch Menus
School Day
The school day starts at 9:00 AM and ends at 3:20 PM. It is very important that your child be on time for school each day. He/she must be in their classroom at 9:00 AM for attendance. The beginning of each day is important to set the tone and to make sure your child feels they are a part of the classroom learning community. Should a situation arise that necessitates your child arrive late to school (after 9:00 AM), you must park in the lot, accompany your child into the school office and sign him/her in at the front office/lobby. (Please do not park in the Fire Lane)
Dismissal/End of Day Plans
Parents MUST send an email to your childās teacher AND primaryoffice@lunenburgschools.net in the morning. Please date your letter, including your childās full name, and indicate what the change in arrangement is. The Primary School will only accept telephone calls to change a childās after school arrangements, or to dismiss a child early in the case of an emergency.
Lunch Program
Lunches are free again this year. Please review with your child if they will be having lunch from the cafeteria or eating a lunch that you prepared. Lunch menus are posted monthly on the website and will be sent home in weekly communication.
Vehicle Traffic: State Law does not allow motorists to pass a bus while loading or discharging passengers even in the school parking lot. A speed limit of 10 mph must be adhered to while driving in our parking areas.
Weekly Communication
Weekly communication will come out by the end of day on Friday's as consistently as possible. However, there maybe times in which this communication comes out on Saturday.
The weekly communication will contain general information such as important dates, procedural reminders and highlights from the week. In addition, the need may arise to send out other communications during the week.
