Dowell 90 Day School Improvement Goals Dowell 90 Day School Improvement Goals

Math and Reading Goals: Students with baseline placement below grade level on i-Ready will meet 55% or greater of their stretch growth goal on i-Ready Inform. Students on or above grade level will meet 55% or greater of typical growth.

What is Typical and Stretch Growth? What is Typical and Stretch Growth?

Typical Growth is the amount of academic growth a student is expected to make during one school year, based on students who started at a similar grade level and placement. Think of it as “the expected amount of growth.”

Stretch Growth is a more ambitious growth goal. It shows how much growth a student would need to make to move toward or maintain grade-level proficiency. For students who are below grade level, Stretch Growth is usually higher than Typical Growth because they need to grow faster than expected to begin closing the gap.

An easy way to remember it:

  • Typical Growth = Where we expect you to grow.
  • Stretch Growth = Where we want to challenge you to grow.

For example, if a student begins the year below grade level, meeting Typical Growth means they made a solid year’s worth of progress—but they may still be below grade level. Meeting Stretch Growth means they made accelerated progress that helps them close the gap toward grade-level expectations.

Mobile Dentist is Coming Mobile Dentist is Coming

Mobile Dentist will be at DES on November 6th and 13th, 2026

Dear Parent,

Great news! Our school has partnered with Smile Programs…the mobile dentists to offer in-school dental care.

Even better, dental care is usually at no cost to you. All insurance is accepted including
Medicaid and CHIP. For those without insurance, a low-cost self-pay option is available.

Convenient and comfortable

Our in-school dental program saves you time and provides a safe and comfortable
place for your child to receive gentle dental care from licensed local professionals.
Dental care includes a complete dental exam, x-rays, cleaning, fluoride and sealants
when necessary, and in some cases, restorative care such as fillings.

Dental care for a healthy life

Children who see a dentist regularly may have fewer health issues like:

  • Early tooth loss caused by dental decay
  • Gum disease
  • Heart disease
  • Impaired speech development

Help keep your child healthy, in school and learning.

Simply go to www.myschooldentist.com or fill out and return the paper form to school by October 9, 2026

Note from Nurse West Note from Nurse West

Students are not allowed to be in possession of any medications, including over-the-counter and herbal medications. Students with documented medical issues will need to meet with the school nurse to obtain permission to carry emergency medication.

All medication forms can be found on the CCPS website under the School Health Program tab in Student Services Department and by using the following link- School Health Program - Calvert County Public School District

Cough drops may be kept in the nurse’s office if they are provided to the nurse in their original package and with written permission from the parent/guardian. This is only for students experiencing minor cough/cold symptoms and will not exceed 3 days past the date of parental permission.

The Mobile Dentist will be at school again this year. Paper consent forms went home at the beginning of the year in the 1st day folders. They will be here on November 6th and 13th. If you would like to have your child seen, please return the form no later than October 9th. If you need a new form, please let me know. You can also sign up online at www.myschooldentist.com or scan the QR code on the form.
