Outdoor Recess Reminder

Please be mindful of dropping temperatures as we head into the winter months. Students will still go outside for their recess periods if the temperature or wind chill is above 20 degrees. Be sure to send your student to school with hats, coats, and gloves when appropriate. If a student is not dressed appropriately for the weather conditions, they may be kept indoors for recess. If you are in need of any winter hats or coats, please contact Mrs. Snyder, our school counselor.

Monthly Character Trait

Our monthly character trait for November is Citizenship. At West Pottsgrove Elementary School, we are defining citizenship as contributing to and supporting one's community. Please talk with your child about citizenship and how they can demonstrate this characteristic in a school setting.

Second Step

In the coming months, our Second Step lessons will focus on skills for learning and having empathy. In our morning announcements, we will be reminding students to have empathy, identify their own and others' feelings, notice and respect same and different feelings, and show compassion. Compassion involves saying kind words or doing something helpful to show you care how another person feels. When students can identify, understand, and respond in a caring way to how someone else is feeling, it helps create a positive and accepting school climate.

Second Step lessons specifically teach about empathy. Empathy is important as it helps children to identify feelings and practice showing empathy and compassion. Please contact your child's teacher if you have any questions about how you can help your child learn to identify feelings and show empathy and compassion at home.
