PRINCIPALS MESSAGE

As the first marking period comes to a close, please take a moment to check your child's report card and the grades they have received through our Sapphire Community Portal on the district website. Hopefully this is something that both you and your child do on a regular basis. Keep in mind, the report card only tells a part of the story of how your child progressing. For this reason, we strongly recommend parents schedule a parent/teacher conference and meet with their child's teachers during our upcoming conference opportunities. Keeping on top of your child's progress is just as important at the high school, if not even more so, than it was in the elementary and middle school. Please take the time to make that face to face connection with your child's teachers. A collaborative and positive school to home relationship is vital to each student's success.

MEDICATION DURING SCHOOL HOURS

A reminder to parents regarding medication during school hours. All medications are required to have a medication order form completed by your child's prescribing physician and parent/guardian signature. Once that is done a parent/guardian must drop off the medication in the original container directly to the school nurse. Medications can not be sent in with students. Please contact the nurse directly to schedule a drop off time for medications and refills.

EMERGENCY CARDS

Please be sure to complete the corrected emergency card handed out and turn in the completed card as soon as possible to the school nurse. This information is vital in the case of an emergency or if an accident occurs. The corrected cards are necessary to provide over-the-counter medications as deemed approved by the parent/guardian.

SAFE2SAY SAFE2SAY

Safe2Say Something is a youth violence prevention program run by the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General. The program teaches youth and adults how to recognize warning signs and signals, especially within social media, from individuals who may be a threat to themselves or others and to “say something” BEFORE it is too late. With Safe2Say Something, it’s easy and confidential to report safety concerns to help prevent violence and tragedies.

Here’s how it works:

  • Submit an anonymous tip report through the Safe2SaySomething system
  • Crisis center reviews, assesses and processes all submissions
  • Crisis center sends all submissions to school administration and/or law enforcement for intervention
  • If needed, crisis center may contact tipster anonymously through the app

988 SUICIDE & CRISIS LIFELINE 988 SUICIDE & CRISIS LIFELINE

https://988lifeline.org/

988 has been designated as the new three-digit dialing code that will route callers to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (now known as the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), and is now active across the United States.

When people call, text, or chat 988, they will be connected to trained counselors that are part of the existing Lifeline network. These trained counselors will listen, understand how their problems are affecting them, provide support, and connect them to resources if necessary.

The previous Lifeline phone number (1-800-273-8255) will always remain available to people in emotional distress or suicidal crisis.

The Lifeline’s network of over 200 crisis centers has been in operation since 2005, and has been proven to be effective. It’s the counselors at these local crisis centers who answer the contacts the Lifeline receives every day. Numerous studies have shown that callers feel less suicidal, less depressed, less overwhelmed and more hopeful after speaking with a Lifeline counselor.
