Updates and Information
Good Afternoon,
During the first few weeks of school, teachers continue to focus on building a positive community and culture in their classroom by developing teacher/student connections, discussing and modeling school and classroom expectations, and reviewing structure, rules, and daily schedule.
I want to emphasize the importance of maintaining a strong partnership between parents and school staff. We cannot achieve our mission of serving our students through positive relationships as a safe, collaborative community without you. Maintaining continuous and open communication about academic goals and appropriate student behavior sends a strong message to our children. Our message focuses on creating a community consisting of both parents and school staff, having high expectations for student success, and maintaining a positive learning environment.
We have several important dates coming our way:
- September 14: Back to School Night 5:30 - 7:00
- September 15: Election Day -Schools Closed/Offices Open
- September 21: Yom Kippur - Schools Closed/Offices Open
- September 24: PTA Meeting 6:00 - 7:00
Please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or administration with questions or concerns.
Administrators are available to meet with parents upon request. Feel free to call or come to

MAP Testing Begins This Week for Grades K-5
MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) testing will occur this month for students in all grade levels, including our Spanish Immersion classes. MAP is a computer-based assessment that measures each student’s current achievement and academic growth in reading and mathematics. The assessment adjusts to each child’s responses, helping teachers identify individual strengths and areas where additional support may be needed.
To help your child do their best, please ensure they get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive at school on time. Most importantly, encourage your child to relax, take their time, and give their best effort.
Thank you for helping our Lancashire Lions arrive ready to learn and shine!
What is Multi Tiered System of Support (MTSS)?
- MTSS is a way to meet the learning needs of all students.
- It refers to evidenced-based, instructional strategies, interventions and other resources that are used to help all students achieve.
- MTSS is evidence-based, and uses problem solving to address both academic and non-academic instruction and interventions.
- When a school uses MTSS, all students are taught the same content (tier 1), however some students receive additional help (tier 2/3) when needed.
- A school Problem Solving Team, PST, reviews your child's progress using data to determine how to support your child's needs.

Attendance Tip:
Missing just 2 days every month equals nearly one month of school each year.
Parents Talk to Parents About Attendance Video:
A great 6-minute video from parents' perspective discussing how attendance impacted their students' learning and growth. It also clarifies some misconceptions and understandings about chronic absenteeism.

Car Rider Reminders
Reminders:
- If your child is a car rider, please get in the car rider line. Do not park on the side and walk your child to the front door. Moving forward, you will be directed to get in the car rider line for drop off.
- Please do not leave students unattended during arrival. Staff are not on duty until 8:40 AM
- Please remember to pull all the way up the cul-de-sac when dropping off & picking up. This helps to move the line along quickly
- In order to keep everyone safe, please do not park on Naamans Rd and bring students across.
- Please stay in your cars with placards visible.
- Please do not walk to the main entrance during dismissal with your placard. Staff are dismissing cars in the line. If you arrive at the main office, we will ask you to wait until dismissal is completed before releasing your student.
Counselor's Corner
Welcome back to another fun-filled year at Lancashire! My name is Alyssa Maxwell, and I am returning as the school counselor here at Lancashire for my THIRD year! Last year was fun and I am looking forward to working with you and your children again this year! As part of my school counseling program, I can work with your children individually, in small groups (more to come!) and occasionally in the classroom! These first days of school I have been making my rounds to each classroom introducing myself to all the returning and new students, sharing some things about myself with them as well as what I do as the school counselor!
Lancashire is partnering with The Center for Child Development again this year. Miss Catherine Marge is returning as the social worker this year and has begun working with students. She is on site every Wednesday. She is accepting new and returning clients to her caseload. It is insurance-based therapy, and both parents/guardians are required to complete the forms. If you are interested in additional support and counseling for your child, you can register and provide your insurance information at this link: : New Clients (English), New Clients (Spanish), Returning Clients.
If you want to get in touch with me, my extension at school is 124 and my email is Alyssa.Maxwell@bsd.k12.de.us. I have also been added to classrooms in ClassDojo.
