Keep practicing good hand washing at home. It's important to keep our little ones (and our staff) healthy so we can attend school!
Highlights from Unified Arts
This week in library we continued our study of Peter H. Reynolds. Last week, all of our unified arts classes focused on his book The Dot while celebrating International Dot Day. This week, we read his sequel Ish. The main character Ramon is a creative spirit who learns that thinking “ish-ly” is far more wonderful than “getting it right." We talked about how creating can be joyful and that it doesn't have to be perfect.
Each grade level then created their own "ish" activity. Second grade turned dot stickers into creative works of art. First grade took squiggles and used their creative minds to turn the squiggles into wonderfully imaginative creations. Kindergarten played a "roll a drawing" ish activity that allowed them to create animal-ish, people-ish, food-ish, house-ish, monster-ish, and silly-ish designs. The students at MRP embraced the "ish" mentality and created with joy! Be sure to ask your child about their own "ish" creations from this week.
Counselor's Corner
Although Attendance Awareness Month is nearly over, we want to celebrate healthy attendance habits all year long! To celebrate student attendance, we will continue to have our “Just because you’re here” days; on these days, students who are in attendance will receive a prize or will participate in some type of special activity just to celebrate that they are here at school! In addition, we will continue our “Big Dill” competition days because attendance is a “Big Dill.” On the “Big Dill” competition days, we will calculate which classroom in each grade level has the highest attendance that day. The class in each grade level that has the highest attendance will get to hold onto our dill pickle Squishmallow until the next “Big Dill” day and will get a special “Big Dill” certificate to display outside of its classroom door!
At the primary school level, students are just beginning to build attendance habits that will support them throughout the rest of their schooling and beyond! We all play a part in helping students build healthy attendance habits.
Some attendance reminders:
-Students who arrive after 8:40am are considered tardy and must be signed in at the front office. Please try to get your student to school on time so they can start their day with their classmates, and they won’t miss any important instruction.
-If your child is absent due to illness, please list that as the reason on the online absence note so the attendance can be coded correctly. If your child has a doctor’s note, please send that as well.
-If your child misses school, please send a note within 48 hours so the attendance can be coded correctly.
