NEWS FROM MRS MCCLUE
Dear Families,
It is hard to believe we are almost halfway through Term 1. The students have begun the year with a fantastic enthusiasm for learning, and really engaged in all the new opportunities with great excitement.
Instrumental Program
We have seen the commencement of the OLGC Instrumental program over the past week, with students undertaking small group tuition in Violin, Cello, Flute and Clarinet. Mrs Bennett also leads ensemble groups with these students, as an extension of the program. It is our hope that as they learn and develop their confidence in playing, we will be able to have these ensembles perform at a variety of school events.
Wellbeing Hub
We have been very fortunate to be able to secure our school Social Worker, Mrs Jenny Biancotti for 2 days per week in 2024. With this increase in time, the school will be introducing a range of new wellbeing initiatives to support students social and emotional development. Mrs Biancotti has recently been trained in a fantastic Lego social skills program. As this is a very structured program, it is limited to a small group of students at a time. However, Mrs Biancotti will also offer a more general Lego Club on Wednesday lunchtimes, for any students with a passion for Lego and who are looking for an alternative playtime activity.
If there are any families who have unwanted Lego at home, donations would be very gratefully received and will be used in support of the lunchtime Lego Club. Please bring donations to the Admin Office.
Mrs Biancotti has created a relaxing and harmonious Wellbeing Hub, in the old meeting room off the school hall. Individual and Small group sessions will be held in the Wellbeing Hub with Jenny. If parents wish to make an appointment, they should email jenny.biancotti@cewa.edu.au or speak to your child’s classroom teacher.
Welcome Event
This Friday is our OLGC Welcome Event, hosted by the OLGC P&F. All families are strongly encouraged to come along and meet with familiar and unfamiliar faces, as we continue to foster and build on our wonderful sense of school community. The event starts at 4.30pm on the school oval. Please see poster below for more information.
Pre-Kindy, Kindy and Pre-Primary Parents Morning Tea
Parents of students in Pre-Kindy, Kindy or Pre-Primary are invited to a casual morning tea on Tuesday 27 February 2024. Our Social Worker, Jenny Biancotti will be hosting the morning tea and available to chat about how to support your child. Please see poster below for more information.
Enrolments – Pre-Kindy and Kindy Program: 2025 and 2026
If you have a younger sibling, friend or family member who will be seeking enrolment in our Pre-Kindy or Kindy program for 2025 or 2026 please contact the administration staff as soon as possible. These places are filling up very fast (with a waitlist already in place for Pre-Kindy 2025) and we would hate for any siblings to miss out on enrolling.
Friends or family members that would like to see what OLGC can offer their child, should submit an EOI via our new website www.olgc.wa.edu.au or by contacting the office on 6242 3400 for an application, or to book a school tour.
NEWS FROM MRS BARFOOT
SACRAMENTS
The sacraments are at the heart of the life of the Church. Through these gifts, God’s faithful ‘are given access to the stream of divine grace which flows from the paschal mystery of the passion, death, the resurrection of Christ’ (SC 61). The Church teaches us that the sacraments require faith which is the ‘first stage of human salvation’ (Council of Trent). As a community we are asked to work together to provide every opportunity for the gift of faith, implanted in children through Baptism, to be properly nurtured, bearing fruit in discipleship, empowered by the Confirming Spirit and continually inserted into and drawing life from the Paschal Mystery in the Eucharist.
We look forward to welcoming the parents/caregivers of students in Years 3, 4 and 6 to tonight's Sacramental Parent Meeting. Following this meeting, parents/caregivers are invited to present their child to the community at one of the following masses:
Our Lady of Good Counsel Church – 8am
25 February, 3 March OR 10 March
St Dominic’s Church – 9.30am
25 February, 3 March OR 10 March
St Dominic’s Church – 6.00pm

PROJECT COMPASSION
This year, Project Compassion brings you the stories of three resilient women from three different corners of the world. They are facing vastly different challenges, but are all united by one dream: to create a better tomorrow for all future generations.
Meet Ronita
Ronita is 22. She lives with her husband and two children in a barangay (local district) in Quezon City, which is situated in Metro Manila in the Philippines.
Ronita left school when she became pregnant as a teenager. This could have had a life-long impact on her ability to find work and provide for her family but, thankfully, she heard about the Alternative Learning System (ALS) program run by the Faithful Companions of Jesus (FCJ), Caritas Australia’s local partner in the Philippines.
Congratulations!
Congratulations to Mrs Stacey Niner who delivered her baby boy, Oaklen Reed last week.
Oaklen was a healthy 3.4kg and 51cm.
We look forward to meeting Oaklen in the coming months.
FACTION SWIMMING CARNIVAL
Sport has started off with a bang at Our Lady of Good Counsel with our annual Faction Swimming carnival held on Thursday 8th February. The excitement of the Novelty raced proved to be very successful and Inclusive for all not matter what swimming level. Congratulations to all swimmers on the day. A highlight event was watching the teachers take the pool for a 25m tyre race, Mrs Hesse and Mrs Randazzo got a little competitive in this race.

1st Sunday of Lent Reflection:
Genesis sets forth a challenge to us to be the voice for the Earth and all nature when greed and indifference cause people, companies and governments to harm and drain Earth’s resources. God, we hear today, is concerned for “the earth…and all living things.”
So we ask ourselves:
• What can I do this Lent to take God’s side in loving and caring for “all living things?”
• How shall I foster this loving care for creation in my family and friends?
Why Lent ?
In the early Church Lent originated as a time of repentance for those preparing for baptism. Having experienced the call to conversion, those seeking initiation into the Christian community resolved to turn away from sin and embrace a gospel life. They were baptized at the Easter Vigil. Today, the six week period of Lent is a time of repentance and renewal for the whole Church. It is a time when we prayerfully take stock of our lives, turn away from all lifestyle habits that contradict the Gospel and renew our commitment to Christ and each other.
Baptism
We welcome Sebastian Paul Derek Kiel, son of David and Gemma Kiel into our parish community. Sebastian will be baptised this weekend. May God continue to bless the Kiel family
Stations of the Cross:
