Message from Principal Perez Message from Principal Perez

I want to give you an important update regarding our bell schedule for the upcoming 2025–2026 school year. After careful consideration and collaboration with our staff, we will be transitioning to a tutorial bell schedule, also known as “Support Time,” starting in the fall.

This change is part of our continued efforts to better meet the academic and social-emotional

needs of all students, ensuring that Every Raider Every Day is provided with an increased opportunity for support and enrichment during the school day.

Why a Tutorial Bell Schedule?

The tutorial bell schedule includes a dedicated period during the school day for students to:

● Receive targeted academic support from their teachers in a focused, low-pressure environment.

● Revisit challenging material and complete missing or late assignments with guidance.

● Explore enrichment opportunities such as interest-based learning.

● Work collaboratively with peers on projects and assignments.

● Access social-emotional support without missing core instructional time.

Supporting Student Needs

This schedule is designed to support all learners by building time into the school day to address

academic challenges before they become obstacles to success. Whether a student needs

reteaching, tutoring, or extra time to complete a task, the tutorial period allows for individualized

attention and proactive intervention.

Next Steps

As we prepare for this shift, we will share more information with families, including details about

the schedule structure, expectations for students, and how the tutorial period will be monitored

and supported. We are excited about the possibilities this change brings and confident that the

Support Time bell schedule will positively impact student learning, engagement, and well-being.

Thank you for your continued partnership in your child’s education. Should you have any

questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our office.

Bell Schedule Bell Schedule

Support Time Support Time

What is Embedded Support?

Rowland High School is committed to supporting every Raider to succeed every day. We will enhance that commitment by integrating support time within the bell schedule.

Students will be assigned to support time groups based on their performance from the previous grading period. To be reviewed every 6 weeks.

New Embedded Support Schedule

Support will now be part of the school day!

A period will be dedicated to supporting students in their area of academic need.

Beginning August 11th 2025, the following schedule will be in effect:

● Tuesday - Friday

● 12:39 p.m. - 1:04 p.m.

● New Lunch Time: 1:04 p.m. - 1:38 p.m.

Support Time Groups Support Time Groups

In Raider Reset - Academic Support

Students will receive:

Targeted small-group academic instruction. Students will be assigned to support time based on their previous grades, attendance, and behavior from the previous 6 weeks.

In Raider Time - Mentorship

9th Graders and other students will receive:

Opportunities to learn how to build social networks, increase self-efficacy skills, and how to

build school connections and opportunities to build self-organizational skills.

In Raider Rising - Study Hall

Students will receive:

Time to focus on completing assignments and/or preparation for exams.

In Raider Success - Extended Lunch

Students will receive an extended lunchtime.

During the check-in process, students received their unofficial academic schedule. This schedule will most likely hold in place and become official with the start of the school year. Every year we have students and/or parents who want to change a class for various reasons (i.e., the student wants to be in the same classroom as his/her friend, doesn’t want a particular teacher, wants a different period for the class, etc.). As in the past, we cannot honor student or parent requests for schedule changes. These types of changes cannot be made because our Master Schedule gets set based on the request for classes provided during the registration process.

Once the schedule is in place, there is very little flexibility to make significant changes to our offerings because books have been ordered, teachers have been hired and/or assigned, and the curriculum has been developed based on the Master Schedule.

Adjustments to a student’s schedule will be made for the following reasons:

1. The student did not receive a required grade-level course; or

2. The student does not have a minimum of 5 classes.

There is movement of classes after the first two weeks of school, but that is limited and only to balance classes. We hope this explains our process. Thank you for being so understanding.

Congratulations to students who achieved Honor Roll status based on the second semester in June. To qualify for the School Honor Roll, a student must earn at least a 3.0 GPA with no grade less than “C”. To qualify for High Honor Roll, a student must earn at least a 3.5 GPA with no grade less than “C”. To qualify for the Principal’s Honor Roll, a student must earn a 4.0 GPA or above with no grade less than “C”. For the semester ending June 2025, a total of 1,136 students achieved Honor Roll status: 325 qualified for School Honor Roll, 436 achieved High Honor Roll, and 373 earned Principal’s Honor Roll. Students who continue to earn Honor Roll status can be eligible for membership in the California Scholarship Federation and National Honor Society, as well as many other scholarships and awards.

Important Information Important Information

Booster Clubs & Parent Organizations/Meetings

Parent groups include: ELAC, Parent Academy, Rowland Instrumental Music Club (RIM), Rowland Organization of Choirs (ROC), Huddle Club (Football), School Site Council, and PTSA (Parent/Teacher/Student Association). Please contact the principal’s secretary for more information.

Campus Visitors

Only persons having official business on the Rowland High School campus are permitted. We also ask that parents not walk on campus and into teachers’ classrooms because it disrupts the educational process. Please make arrangements ahead of time with the teacher you wish to see. Everyone must check in through an electronic security system and obtain a visitor’s pass at the reception desk in the front office.

Medical - Safety Procedures

Students attending school with sutures, splints, casts, crutches, brace(s), or a wheelchair must have a licensed health care provider’s written permission. The permission must state the date of student return and the need for the assistive device. The student must comply with any safety procedures required by the school administration and health services personnel.

Medication Policy

Medication that your teen needs to take during the school day must be left in the health office. A physician must sign a consent form (obtained from the health office) stating the name of the medication and how it should be dispensed. The parent/guardian also needs to sign the form. Students on daily medication for critical health problems (diabetes, epilepsy, etc.) should leave a 3-day supply of the medication in the health office as a safeguard against a possible disaster during school hours when your teen may not be able to go home.

Messages/Drop Off Items

In an effort not to interrupt the educational process of students, we only deliver messages in the event of serious emergencies. Forgotten phones, money, lunches, keys, books, Chromebooks, errands, and being unable to pick up students from school do not qualify as emergencies.

Senior Sign-Outs

To safeguard students’ graduation and grade point averages, we require a parent conference and a parent signature prior to allowing an 18-year-old student to sign himself/herself out of school.

Student Charges

Students are required to return all textbooks and other equipment issued to them. Lost books and other bills should be paid before the new semester begins. Students may not receive diplomas or transcripts until all obligations are paid. Students may obtain a list of their charges in the ASB office and in the Textbook room.

Student driven/riden cars, bicycles, E-bikes, scooters, and skateboards

Students are responsible for obtaining a permit to park on campus in designated areas. It is crucial to follow all traffic laws, be mindful of pedestrians and vehicles on the road, and wear appropriate safety gear.

Student Pictures

Make-up pictures take place in the Hideout all day on August 20. Students who have not had their picture taken by August 20 will not appear in the yearbook.

Textbooks

Students are responsible for textbooks. Should a student lose or damage a textbook, he/she must pay for the textbook. We do not accept replacement books bought from outside vendors in place of a lost textbook. Parents, please do not buy a textbook from the Internet or anywhere else to replace a school-issued book. Each student has a Destiny account that tracks all books checked out to a student through the library or textbook room.

Transportation

Please contact the Transportation Department at (626)965-5719 to make arrangements for bus passes or if you have any questions regarding the bus schedule.

Electronic Devices Electronic Devices

The Board of Education recognizes that the use of smartphones and other mobile communication devices on campus may be beneficial to student learning and well-being, but could be disruptive of the instructional program in some circumstances.

Students may use cell phones, smart watches, pagers, or other mobile communication devices on campus during noninstructional time as long as the device is utilized in accordance with the law. Devices shall be turned off during instructional time unless allowed by the teacher or an administrator. No student will be prohibited from possessing or using a mobile communication device that is determined by a licensed physician/surgeon to be essential for the health of the student.

Smartphones and other mobile communication devices shall not be used in any manner that infringes on the privacy rights of any person. When a school official reasonably suspects that a search of a student’s mobile communication device will turn up evidence of the student’s violation of the law or school rules, such a search shall be conducted in accordance with BP/AR 5145.12—Search and Seizure. When a student uses a mobile communication device in an unauthorized manner, the student may be disciplined and the device may be confiscated. The device will be stored securely and turned over to the principal or designee. A student may also be subject to discipline, in accordance with law, Board policy, or administrative regulation, for off-campus use of a mobile communication device that poses a threat or danger to the safety of students, staff, or district property or substantially disrupts school activities.

In permitting student possession of such devices, the district assumes no liability for the loss, theft, or damage of the device or its misuse by another person.

Extracurricular Eligibility Extracurricular Eligibility

zoom_out_map

The Rowland Unified School District maintains a grade point average requirement for extracurricular activities. To be eligible for athletics, performing arts, PEP, or ASB, a 2.0 GPA or “C” average must be maintained.

9-12 grade students who fail to maintain a 2.0 GPA will be placed on probation during the following grading period and must attend instructional support opportunities to improve academic performance. If their grades continue to be below a 2.0 into the following reporting period, they will be deemed ineligible to participate. Students will not be granted more than one probationary period each semester.

In placing activities in the proper perspective with school studies, the following policy will be enforced throughout the school year. A student may not participate in extracurricular activities that day unless they have attended a minimum of four class periods.

In the event of a major disaster, RHS is prepared to care for and assist students and staff. All students will be kept at school until they can be released to their parent or other authorized adult who comes to pick them up. Students will be released only to persons listed on the Emergency Card. If this information changes during the school year, it is imperative that you notify the school so we can update the Emergency Card.

At the time of a major disaster, access to the campus will be restricted and parents will be directed to a designated student release area. In most instances, this will be at the Valencia Avenue gate on the south side of the stadium. Parents or other adults arriving to pick up students should go to that location and be prepared to show identification in order to pick up their student(s).

MAKE SURE YOUR EMERGENCY INFORMATION IS UPDATED IN THE AERIES PORTAL BEFORE AUGUST 31ST.
