Principal Corner
Happy Friday, CES Families!
On Tuesday, we were proud to honor our veterans during our Veterans Day program. Our students did an excellent job Being Positive, Acting Responsibly, Working Hard, and Showing Respect throughout the event. A special thank you to the families who had veterans join us—it was a privilege to celebrate with you. We also recognized one of our very own veterans, Mr. Williams.
As we move into the weekend, please take a few moments to support your child’s learning by encouraging them to practice in Lexia, complete DreamBox lessons, and spend time reading together. Directions for accessing both programs can be found in the button below. This can be homework you can do nightly with your child.
Have a wonderful weekend!
—Mrs. Miller
Ways you can support us at home:
Drop Off Reminders
Please help us out. Parents SHOULD NOT drive in the bus lane OR BLOCK the LANE during the following hours:
7:30-8:35 a.m. or 2:15-3:15 p.m.
Please park your car or use the carpool lane to drop off your children through Middle School West. Our job is to keep kids safe. Having parents drive in the bus lane or blocking the entrance is not safe and it blocks the buses.
We need to keep your kids safe and moving traffic as efficiently as possible. Thank you for your cooperation.
School Counseling Connection with Mrs. Jasin
Hi families!
As we move into this holiday season, remember that kids are still learning how to handle emotions and solve problems — and that’s okay! Taking time to listen, encourage, and model calm problem-solving goes a long way.
Helping Kids Handle Big Feelings:
🧠 Pause & Breathe – Take a deep breath before reacting.
💬 Name It to Tame It – “I feel mad because…”
💡 Choose – Think of one coping skill or calming strategy (i.e., taking deep breaths, counting to 10, tapping into your 5 senses).
💛 Connect – Remind your child that everyone makes mistakes and can try again.
If your family ever needs resources like coats, food, or holiday help, please reach out — I’m here to help!
Best,
Mrs. Jasin

These groups focus on building leadership, kindness, confidence, and respect through fun activities and discussions. Students will learn what it means to be positive role models at school and in the community. You can learn more about the programs at https://www.gobeyondthegame.org/. Mrs. Jasin and Mr. Scheibeck will be the facilitators for the program at the school.
We can’t wait to see our third graders shine as they practice being their best selves! 🌟

Art with Mrs. Karr
What an exciting and creative month it's been in art class! Our students have been busy exploring a variety of techniques, learning about different artists, and expressing themselves through a wide range of mediums. From clay projects to paper weavings, and even optical illusions. Here’s a glimpse into what each grade level has been working on:
Kindergarten and 1st grade were so proud to see their finished clay projects after the glaze firing! It's always such a delightful surprise to watch how the glaze transforms, turning from dull and rough into bright and smooth after the final firing. The process has been long, but oh, so worth the wait! This week, students excitedly took their projects home.
In 2nd grade, we continued our nature art unit by choosing sticks from the playground. We had so much fun learning how to tie knots and then used vibrant yarn to decorate our sticks. After finishing our nature art, we dove into cutting, gluing, and exploring collage techniques. Students started by creating their own collages and will soon be making robot collages using textured papers!
3rd grade students are working on paper loom weavings. We began by learning about the rich history of weaving in different cultures around the world. We also discussed weaving terminology—like loom, warp, and weft—before jumping into our own creations. The students loved creating their own colorful paper weavings, and each one turned out beautifully!
In 4th grade, we explored Op Art (Optical Illusion Art) and learned about the contemporary artist Thank You X, who is well-known for his cube murals. Each student designed their own cube to contribute to our class's optical illusion collaboration piece with all the 4th grade classes. To finish off their designs, students learned colored pencil techniques to add shading and create more visual interest.
Finally, in 5th grade, we've been having a blast with One-Point Perspective! We learned how to use a vanishing point and a ruler to create the illusion of 3D forms. Then, students applied these perspective techniques to illustrate their names in a fun and creative way. Of course, we couldn't resist reading a passage from the popular book Cat Kid Comic Club: Perspectives, which includes a drawing lesson on perspective in chapter one!
It’s such a joy watching these students explore their creativity and develop new skills!
5th GRADE ARTISTS: The deadline for yearbook cover submissions is Friday, November 21st! See Mrs. Karr for entry forms.
Cold Weather Reminder
Please make sure students are dressed warmly for recess as the weather gets colder. We will be outside for recess unless the temperature falls below 17 degrees.
If you need coats, hats, or gloves, please reach out to the front office or Mrs. Jasin.
Attendance
Did You Know?
Missing two days per month - excused or unexcused - can add up to a child being considered chronically absent.
Chronic absenteeism is defined as missing 10% or more (approximately 18 days) during a school year, regardless if the absence is coded excused or unexcused!
Parent Phone calls to change transportation
The front office is a busy place the last 30 minutes of school. We ask that parents NOT CALL to make transportation changes after 2 p.m. Please make sure students know your plan of pick up before they come to school.
