August 28, 2026 Principal's Message August 28, 2026 Principal's Message

Hello Blevins Families,

As we wrap up another great week at Blevins, I want to recognize our students for the outstanding effort they put into their beginning-of-the-year MAP Reading and Math assessments. These assessments provide valuable information that helps us understand each student's strengths and areas for growth, and our students approached them with focus, perseverance, and a commitment to doing their best. We are proud of the positive start they have made both academically and personally.

We are also excited to launch our Project-Based Learning (PBL) classes beginning on Monday. Students will attend their PBL courses during 6th period on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, while Bruin Hour classes will take place on Wednesdays. These courses provide students with opportunities to explore interests, build new skills, collaborate with peers, and engage in meaningful learning experiences beyond the traditional classroom. We can't wait to see the creativity and enthusiasm that students bring to these classes throughout the year.

Our fall athletics programs are also in full swing, and excitement is building as our teams prepare for their first competitive games, matches, and meets in the coming weeks. We appreciate the dedication of our student-athletes, coaches, and families as they represent Blevins with pride and sportsmanship.

Finally, I want to extend a sincere thank you to our amazing families for your flexibility and support as we have navigated several early-release heat days to start the year. Your partnership and understanding have helped make these adjustments smooth for students and staff alike. Despite the unusual start, this has been one of the best beginnings to a school year that I can remember. Our students are engaged, kind, and eager to learn, and our staff is excited about the year ahead. Thank you for being such an important part of the Blevins community.

Proudly,
Joe Zappa, Principal

Our mission: Blevins is a welcoming learning community of personal and academic growth, where all students belong, achieve, and are prepared for lifelong success.

Bruin Club Bruin Club

Blevins Middle School is excited to offer our after-school program, Bruin Club, starting Monday, September 14, 2026! This after-school program, which is funded through the 21st Century Community Learning Center (CCLC) grant, Cohort X, offers students homework help, enrichment clubs, and community connection opportunities, while giving them a safe place to build relationships with other students. Bruin Club is a drop-in based program and will be held from 2:25pm to 5:00pm, Monday through Thursday. The fall session runs 09/14/2026 - 12/17/2026 with no programs operating on 10/13/26, 10/15/26, and 11/17/26. An email will be sent out in early September once we have finalized our enrichment offerings.

To Participate: All students must have a completed and approved 2026-2027 “Permission to Participate” form on file before attending Bruin Club.

Permission to Participate Form: The permission to participate form will be available to students in the front office. You can also download the form and print or fill it out virtually and email it to Izzy Crume at icrume@psdschools.org. Printed versions of the form can be brought to the front office at Blevins. Note: if you have multiple students at Blevins, please fill out a separate form for each student.

Transportation: If your student needs to ride the bus home from Bruin Club during our fall session, you are required to submit the “Permission to Participate” form to Izzy Crume OR the school office by Friday, 08/28/2026 by 2:25pm. Note: Bussing is not guaranteed, but if available, bussing will pick students up from Blevins at 4:45pm. Transportation start date is to be determined.

Interested in Odyssey of the Minds: Odyssey is a creative problem-solving program for students in Kindergarten through College where teams of up to seven members learn to think outside the box, work together to develop creative solutions to broadly defined problems, and present their solution in an eight-minute performance.

Through this program, students practice 21st-century skills they need to succeed today and in the future. They learn to think and work creatively, apply innovative approaches, communicate clearly and effectively, and collaborate respectfully with others.

To learn more about Odyssey of the Minds at Blevins, join us for a family information night on Wednesday, August 26th, from 6:00 pm-7:00 pm in the Media Center.

Questions: If you have any questions regarding Bruin Club, please contact Izzy Crume at (970)657-6612 or icrume@psdschools.org.

Important October Count Information Important October Count Information

October Count is coming on OCTOBER 1st!

(PSD's count window is Sept. 24- Oct 8.)

What is October Count? It is simply making your student count in our education system. Per the Colorado Department of Education:

“The Student October Pupil Enrollment collection contains student enrollment information as of the pupil enrollment count date. This information is used to determine the school demographics, number of students in instructional programs, free and reduced lunch counts, and distribution of school finances across the state.”

Its very important to have your student in school during this time so your student and Blevins are accurately represented. If you have any questions or concerns, please call Brian Crego 970-488-4008.

2026-2027 Blevins Yearbook 2026-2027 Blevins Yearbook

Welcome back Bruins! While May seems so far away, the Yearbook purchase deadline will creep up faster than you think! Now is the best time to pre-order your yearbook for three reasons:

  1. You are guaranteed a yearbook! We don’t order enough for every student, so ordering in advance guarantees your student will receive one.
  2. You can get FREE icons to customize your student’s book. Add music notes, a football, or other symbols to reflect their unique interests with the code YBKICONS at checkout when personalization is purchased
  3. The yearbook is CHEAPER! After winter break, the cost of the Yearbook will go up! Order your yearbook now and avoid the price increase later in the year.

We appreciate your support of yearbook as students create the entire book start to finish. We can’t wait to share this year’s work with you!
