November 25, 2025

Greetings MMS Families,

It is hard to believe that we are approaching the end of November! As we are settled into the heart of the school year, we’re grateful for the continued partnership we share with our families. This month invites us to pause, reflect, and appreciate the growth we’ve already seen in our students—academically, socially, and emotionally. We are proud of the hard work they bring to school each day and the support you provide at home.

Around the school our 8th grade Interdisciplinary Studies students have been touring the building to begin planning their "green space" proposals. 8th grade Math students are solving 1 and 2-step equations with modeling, before transitioning to solve multi-step equations. Our Algebra 1 students are completing a unit on solving absolute value and compound inequalities.

In 7th grade ELA students are finishing up writing their realistic fiction stories, they are currently revising and editing their final product using several strategies they have learned so far this year. Our 7th grade Social Studies students are learning all about the Native American tribes of Maine, past and present.

Our 6th grade Science students are beginning to learn about the different types of energy and energy transformations and in 6th grade Social Studies students just wrapped up their Prehistory unit. They are beginning to learn about Mesopotamia, all while continuing to hone their skills on 50 states facts and geography.

We are looking forward to our upcoming winter concerts, our first school dance of the year and some other fun events and celebrations around the school! With the holidays approaching and the days getting shorter, we look forward to a month filled with fun, learning, community, and gratitude. Thank you for being an essential part of our school family.

Sincerely,

Kelly Grantham, Principal

Amy Troiano, Assistant Principal

Massabesic Middle School Student Council Update

Massabesic Middle School raised $480.28 during our Penny War fundraiser! Team Rangeley collected an amazing $223.50, earning them the title of 2025 “You Make a Difference” Trophy Winners for their outstanding effort.

All proceeds from the Penny War were donated to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Combined with our online donations of $1,340, we are proud to announce a grand total of $1,820 raised for this important cause!

On November 10, our Student Council also placed 168 American flags in front of the building to honor our veterans.

A huge thank-you goes out to Mr. Bryant, Mrs. Durgin, Mr. Parsons, Mrs. LeDoux, Ms. Sawyer, and Mr. Leavitt for their support — and most of all, to our generous MMS students and staff for their generosity and spirit of giving.

Together, we truly make a difference! Thank you again, MMS Student Council

Grade 8 STEM

Our 8th grade STEM students recently wrapped up an exciting engineering challenge in which they were "hired" by Six Flags Amusement Park to design and build a brand-new ride to celebrate the park’s 65th anniversary. Working in teams and with Mrs. Thorne's guidance, students created original ride concepts and constructed functional models that could operate independently, without any human intervention. Each design also incorporated a 3D-printed component to enhance the overall build.

The creativity and problem-solving on display were outstanding. Students worked hard and brought impressive engineering thinking to life. Last week, they presented their models to a panel of judges through a slideshow and live demonstration, showcasing both their technical skills and their ability to communicate their design choices. It was an inspiring celebration of innovation and teamwork!
