Registration for Burning Man is Open!
Camp Contact is back for 2023. In a week and a half, we’re heading to LoveBurn, and bringing our dome and workshops to Virginia Key Beach in Miami. In order to become a more cohesive and responsive community of burners, we’re prototyping a number of changes to the camp organizational structure at Loveburn. If these work out well, we'll implement them at Burning Man in order to distribute effort and create a shared vision of what's involved with making the camp happen.
Many new camp roles have been established, including Chief of Staff
Roles that the instigator (Darrell) typically fills have been named so that even though he is filling them, people know that these aspects of camp are a thing such that someday someone else might fill them.
Providing sign-ups for kitchen shifts ahead of time and Sending out an email asking how people are volunteering with the camp and cross-checking their responses.
Strengthening the pod system to better represent the various clusters of social connections that exist within the camp.
Applications for Camp Contact at Burning Man 2023 are now open!! We will have a number of Steward Sale tickets for campers filling key roles and need to have your completed application with dues paid to be able to assign your Steward Sale tickets. In addition to the changes listed above, we’re looking for each new camper and some returning campers to have an interview with one of our application reviewers, known as Cultural Direction Stewards. Jmath and Savvy are spearheading this team, taking on the role of reviewing applications that aren't obvious good fits for the camp, and we’d like to have additional campers help with the interview process. If you’re planning on joining Camp Contact in 2023, and you’ve camped with us at least two times, please reach out to Darrell at dance@campcontact.org if you’d like to be considered as a Cultural Direction Steward. We’re looking for campers from the different pods to represent our specific interest areas. In addition to the camp steward team spots, we have two positions that have active tasks that are open for Camp Contact at Burning Man:

I'm thankful to the team of campers who came together in the fall to provide a lot of other recommendations and ideas about how to make camp work better. This work is not complete and we need to have another meeting and work out plans about how to better make camp happen better. This year, we are aiming to only have 180 people in the camp. Commensurately, the dues price has gone up, as we have some debt to pay off from 2022, and we have many infrastructure items to replace.
Camp Contact and Anahasana village are also working to integrate into a Hub, and one of the camps we have identified will have a strong maker space aspect that we are looking to support. Hence, we are planning not to build out our own maker space and bike repair station but instead collaborate with this neighboring camp (based out of DC) to support any repairs / build tasks that need to happen.
