✨Hawley Bearcats✨
Hawley ISD's McKinney-Vento (MV) Program is making a significant impact by supporting students experiencing homelessness through its Alternative Education Program and strong connections with the Community Resource Coordination Group (CRCG).
The Alternative Education Program plays a crucial role in providing homeless students with a stable and supportive learning environment. This program is designed to meet the unique needs of students who may face interruptions in their education due to housing instability. By offering tailored academic support and a flexible learning environment, the program ensures that students can continue their education without additional stress or barriers.
A key strength of the Hawley ISD MV program is its strong partnership with the CRCG, which helps connect students and families to a wide range of community resources. The CRCG is a collaborative network that brings together social services, health care, housing assistance, and other essential resources. Through this partnership, Hawley ISD ensures that students and their families have access to the support they need—whether it’s food, shelter, counseling, or other services—ultimately helping to remove obstacles to their academic success.
Keep up the great work! ✨

🫵10-Minute Survey to Guide Future Homelessness Funding
Now more than ever, your insights on dedicated funding for students experiencing homelessness is needed. Some Congressional leaders have stated their intent to slash federal funding for education, and eliminate many federal education programs next year. In past years, responses to SHC’s national homeless education survey helped us make the case to Congress for increased flexible funding for children and youth experiencing homelessness through ARP-HCY.
Now, we need information to protect current funding and the McKinney-Vento program itself.
We're asking school district liaisons, or those who fulfill those duties, to complete a 10-minute survey to help guide future funding for students experiencing homelessness. If you’ve already completed the survey, we thank you! We’d be grateful if you could also share it with others.

🚦TEHCY Discipline Toolkit - ATTN: ADMINISTRATORS!
The TEHCY Discipline Toolkit provides a comprehensive overview of how to support and respond to students experiencing homelessness related to discipline. This includes a comprehensive approach to student behavior, including addressing the root-causes of behavior and providing appropriate interventions, supports, and key-actions for students when problematic behaviors occur. There are both federal and state law requirements that must be followed.
This toolkit presents clear and specific descriptions of the provisions of the McKinney-Vento Act as they pertain to discipline, and includes practices, procedures, and tools that local education agencies (LEAs) will be able to use to strengthen services and supports to students experiencing homelessness, also known as McKinney-Vento eligible students. This toolkit serves as both an orientation manual and a ready reference resource for new and experienced LEA leaders.
It is paramount that students experiencing homelessness have equitable access to all available supports and resources to meet the same challenging state academic standards established for all students and all discipline related requirements are understood, implemented and followed.
