No After School Program on These Dates...
No After-School program
The After School Program will not run next week, Nov. 17th, 18th and 19th due to parent teacher conferences. We also won't have it during the week of Thanksgiving. The After School Program will start up again December 1st.
Young Authors Forms Due this Friday, November 14!
To be able to come to Writers Workshop, students need to be signed up to participate in Young Authors.
Young Authors forms were sent home late last week. If your student intends to participate in this year's Young Authors competition, they need to turn their form in this Friday, November 14.
Much of the work of Young Authors will need to be done at home. The school will provide an opportunity each week for a Writing Workshop on Wednesdays to run at the same time as the after school club from 3:15 - 4:15. During this workshop students will be able to access the afterschool staff to work on their writing including editing, developing their plot or nonfiction topic, etc.
Again, all forms for Young Author's Participation need to be turned in by this Friday, November 14, 2025.

Speaking With Good Purpose!
SPEAK WITH GOOD PURPOSE β Speak honestly and kindly
Think before you speak. Make sure your intention is positive and your words are sincere.
For the months of November and December, Southside Elementary School will be focused on Speaking with Good Purpose!
Words are powerful! They have the power to uplift and enlighten or put down and depress. A few cutting words spoken in a moment of anger can affect us for a long time, perhaps even a lifetime. On the other hand, a few kind words can make a very positive difference in how we feel about ourselves β¦ sometimes for a lifetime.
What we say to othersβand to ourselvesβcan have a huge impact. Speaking with good purpose is about always considering the intention of our words. Itβs about communicating directly, clearly, honestly, and with a positive purpose. The first step is awareness. If we always think before we speak instead of just blurting out whatever comes to mind, we can learn to consider the reason for our words and make sure we are speaking with good purpose β¦ will our words build someone up or put them down? We all sometimes have negative thoughts, but we donβt have to say everything we think.
There will be times when we need to share critical thoughts. At these times, if our purpose and how we phrase our words is considered first, sharing honest and direct feedback can be very positive and powerful, and build trust.
Speaking with good purpose is the cornerstone of healthy relationships. This Key fosters a positive emotional environment where people are happier, more productive, and more likely to succeed.
