Good afternoon CMIT Family,

As 2025 comes to an end, we would like to clarify several attendance and absence procedures that have come to our attention.

CMIT is a technology-focused school. Please note that the Attendance Manager, Mrs. LaPorte, will no longer accept paper doctor’s notes or emails to report a scholar’s absence unless the absence exceeds five (5) consecutive days.

All absences, late arrivals, and early dismissals must be reported within three (3) days of the scholar’s return to school by completing the PGCPS Absence Reason Notification Form:

If you are submitting an excused late arrival or early dismissal, please select the “Other” option on the form and specify late arrival or early dismissal in the description field. Attendance records will be updated within 48 hours of form submission.

Please ensure that arrangements are made—by parents/guardians or scholars—to obtain any missed assignments upon the scholar’s return to school.

The Sibling Preference Form is now available. When completing the form, please be sure to include your ScribSoft Lottery Application Order Number.

Please note that forms submitted without the order number will be returned to the parent or guardian for completion.

Community Food Assistance Resources

Join us in a relaxed and enjoyable environment where we will watch episodes of sitcoms (short for "situation comedy") and follow it up with a group discussion. It's a fun and insightful way to explore real life situations through humor and to hear diverse opinions and perspectives from peers.

This club will be held on Tuesdays from 3-4pm. It will be located in Mrs. Gadsden's classroom (room 306). Middle School and High School students are welcome to join.

Week Recap

Winter sports are in full swing at CMIT South, with our basketball, track, and cheer teams all competing and representing the Tigers with pride over the past week. Here’s a breakdown by team:

🏀Basketball

On Tuesday, December 16, our basketball teams faced Surrattsville High School.

• The Girls Varsity team dropped a tough road matchup.

• At home, our JV Boys put on a dominant performance, winning by an impressive 50 points

• The Varsity Boys battled hard but came up just short in a close contest.

Basketball action continued on Thursday, December 17 against Potomac High School.

• The Girls Varsity team earned a strong home victory

• Our JV Boys secured another blowout win on the road

• The Varsity Boys once again competed with great effort but fell short in a road matchup.

🥇Track & Field

Our Track & Field team competed in a relays-only meet this past Thursday and once again shined on the track . Shoutout to all of our track athletes—your hard work and consistent training are clearly paying off as you continue to perform at a high level.

🎀Cheer

Our Cheer team has been fantastic all season, bringing energy, spirit, and excitement to every home basketball game . A huge shoutout to our cheer athletes and coaching staff for their dedication and outstanding performance

As we head into the holiday break, we wish all of our CMIT South families a safe, restful, and joyful holiday season. Thank you for your continued support of Tiger Athletics—we look forward to an exciting return in the new year!

Basketball Highlights
Our basketball teams have been showing incredible effort and school spirit on the court this season! As we close out the season here's our last week recap.

On December 15, the boys basketball team battled fiercely against John Hanson in an intense matchup that went into double overtime. The team showed tremendous heart, hustle, and determination, coming up just short with a final score of 52–49. An outstanding effort all the way to the final buzzer! That same night, the girls basketball team delivered a dominant performance against John Hanson, earning an impressive 48–4 victory. Strong defense, teamwork, and focus led them to a commanding win from start to finish.

On December 17, our teams faced Accokeek Academy in another exciting night of basketball. The girls team fought hard in a tough contest that went into overtime, narrowly falling 42–37. Their determination and perseverance were on full display. The boys team followed with a strong showing, securing a 46–42 victory through excellent teamwork and hustle.

We are incredibly proud of both teams for their hard work and dedication. Playoffs begin on January 5, and we wish our athletes the best of luck as they continue their season. Let’s keep cheering them on!

Congratulations to our girls basketball team on an outstanding season and for earning a spot in the playoffs! The hard work, teamwork, and determination have truly paid off. We are so proud of your effort on and off the court and can’t wait to cheer you on as you continue your playoff journey. Keep believing, keep pushing, and represent our school with pride. Good luck!
