Hey Creekside Families! This is Dana Rhinehart with a few announcements.

This is a BIG week at the Creek!

Tuesday at 4:45 we have a PTO meeting in the cafeteria. Following a short meeting, our 3rd grade teachers will be presenting the 411 on all the info needed for 3rd grade. Our reading specialist, Mrs. Lauren McKleroy will be providing updates and answering questions concerning the Alabama Literacy Act. If you are a 3rd grade parent, you don't want to miss Tuesday evening's meeting. We want you to understand not on the Literacy Act, but more importantly, how you can support your student during this incredible year of learning. Our goal is to reduce your stress, so that you can enjoy seeing your child develop into a phenomenal reader and mathematician.

Creekside Boosterthon Kicks off Thursday, August 27th! Registration is open. Follow the Creekside PTO for all the info. The Fun Run is Friday, September 4th! This is our only big fundraiser of the year and we are counting on families to help us meet our goals to help with outdoor classrooms, library enhancements, and other classroom needs!

August 9, 2026

Hello Creekside Families! I hope you're all rested up after the first couple of days of school.

Please make sure you turn in free/reduced lunch applications, student information sheets, attendance policy acknowledgement, and other paperwork as soon as possible.

Car Line- Elementary car line begins at 7:10. ALL cars must enter on the new road that is south of the main entrance. PLEASE do not enter through the main entrance and try to cut through the line. This is a big safety concern.

Breakfast is free to all students again this year. Remind students that if they are eating breakfast at school, they need to go straight to the cafeteria when they arrive on campus. If your child is a car rider and you would like for them to eat breakfast at school, please arrive before 7:20.

It's going to be a GREAT week at the Creek! We can't wait to see you in the morning!

August 16, 2026

Hello Creekside! This is Dana Rhinehart, principal, with a few announcements.

Make sure you complete a new free/reduced lunch application. Everyone must complete a new application each year. If you need help, please let us know.

Please return student information sheets, attendance policy acknowledgement, standards proficiency letters, and all other paperwork as soon as possible.

Elementary car line begins at 7:10. ALL cars must enter on the new road that is south of the main entrance. PLEASE do not attempt to come through the main entrance and try to cut through the line. This is a big safety concern for our staff and cars. Also, ALL traffic must turn right when exiting car line.

Mark your calendars:

August 25th- PTO meeting and at 4:45 3rd grade will deliver the 411 on all things pertaining to 3rd grade.

BOOSTERTHON Kick off is Aug. 27th and the Fun Run is Sept. 4th.

September 11th- Fall individual pictures will be made.

It's going to be a GREAT week!

Upcoming Dates:

  • May 18- 4th Grade Wax Museum and House Winner Announcement & Celebration
  • May 20- 5th grade promotion ceremonies
  • May 21- Students Last Day

May 18, 2026

Well, Creekside Families, we are wrapping up the 25 years at the Creek! It's been a fantastic year! Our PTO has been incredible, helping with all things under the sun to support and make each and every day memorable. Teachers, staff, and leadership have constantly reviewed what's working in instruction and identified where improvements needed to be made.

Registration for the 26-27 school year is open. Remember that we must have updated proof of residence and all current information. We will add students to class lists as they register. The snap codes for registration were sent to the first contact in each child's profile. 252 students have completed re-enrollment out of 540 projected. If your family is moving, please contact Amanda Dumas to get withdrawal paperwork completed. All 5th grade records will be sent to East Limestone unless you notify Mrs. Dumas.

Please check your child's cafeteria balance and pay all charges. If you would like to donate to our cafeteria account, please let us know. The school is required to pay any outstanding balances once school is out and we have limited resources to pay off this debt.

Tomorrow is the 4th grade wax museum. Parents will enter at the entrance to the right of the main entrance ("Gifted" entrance.)

5th grade promotion ceremonies are Wednesday, May 20th. Classroom end-of-year celebrations for grades 3 and 4 will also be on May 20th. May 21st is a full day of school.

Thank you for a wonderful year! I don't know of any other profession where you're greeted by hugs throughout the day! Your kids are phenomenal!

May 10, 2026

Happy Mother's Day to all of our Creekside Moms, Grandmas, Aunts, and others who make a positive impacts in our students' lives. We love our Moms!

I was talking to my sister, whose grandson goes to school in TN today and she said, "yeah, this is his last full week of school." I said, "Really, No way.".... Then I looked at my calendar... And I had to admit that it is our last full week of school too! NO WAY!!! I am not sure where time has gone, and I am NOT OK with saying farewell to our 5th graders... Time is definitely a thief.

Teachers have lots of things to finish up during the last 9 days of school. Please encourage your student to continue to follow instructions and do their best.

School lunch accounts must be paid. Please check your child's balance and make it a priority to pay off any debt. We never deny a child a lunch at school. At the end of the year, we have to pay any outstanding balances from school funds. If you would like to make a donation to help the school offset this cost, please let us know.

We're looking forward to Field Day on Thursday. Make sure you apply sunscreen before school.

It's also Kindness Week at Creekside. Attached are dress up days, but if classes already have plans, students may participate in classroom activities. We are also participating in a fundraiser for the American Heart Association as part of Kindness Week. Watch for information coming home this week.

It's going to be a GREAT week at the CREEK!

Hello Creekside Families!

We are SO PROUD of the effort that all of our students put into ACAP testing last week! We cannot wait to see the scores of our amazing students! We will finish up make ups this week for any students who were absent last week.

We have two more important assessments. 3rd grade will begin end of the year DIBELS testing this week. This test measures reading fluency. The maze section of the test measures silent reading comprehension, vocabulary, and sentence context understanding.

We will also begin iReady end -of-year testing. This will measure each student's growth in reading and math.

Mark your calendars for Creekside Creates night on April 23rd.

March 29, 2026

Hey Creekside! I hope you've enjoyed this beautiful Sunday!

If you haven't completed the parent/guardian survey, we would really love to have your input. The link is on the newsletter.

We will begin ACAP (Alabama Comprehensive Assessment Program) summative testing on Tuesday. I want to take a moment to thank you for the incredible support you provide your children each and every day. Your encouragement, care, and involvement make a meaningful difference in their confidence and success at school.

State testing is just one opportunity for students to show what they’ve learned, but it does not define who they are or all they are capable of achieving. Our students have been working hard all year, growing academically and personally, and we are so proud of their progress.

You can help your child feel prepared and confident by ensuring they get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive at school on time. Most importantly, remind them to do their best and believe in themselves—we certainly believe in them!

Thank you for being our partners in education and for helping create a positive, supportive environment where every child can thrive.

Together, we will make this a successful and rewarding experience for our students.

The schedule for this week:

Tuesday- 3rd grade ELA (English Language Arts - reading, writing, listening, vocabulary)

Wednesday- 3rd grade ELA

Thursday - 3rd grade Math and 4th grade Science

Friday- 3rd grade math

Testing sessions are generally around 50 -70 minutes per day.

If you missed last week's announcements, please check the newsletter for information on attendance and dress code.

Don't forget to order your yearbook! The deadline is April 18th.

Let's have a GREAT week!

Hello Creekside Families! I hope you enjoyed spring break! We're excited to get back into our routines and finish out another amazing year at CES!

Upcoming Dates are listed above.

Parent/Guardian Survey - link is on the newsletter. Please take a moment to complete the survey.

ACAP testing starts next week. Teachers will send out the schedule for their classes. Please make sure your child is present on testing days so they do not have to do make up testing. We also cannot call students to check out during a testing session, so please note when sessions are for appointments.

Attendance- Check PowerSchool and make sure your child has turned in excuses for absences. Remember that according to the state of Alabama, if a child misses 18 days, excused or not, he/she is considered a chronically absent student. According to the LCS Student Handbook:

Chronic Absenteeism To address problems with chronic absenteeism, students in Grades K-12 who accumulate 18 or more absences, whether deemed excused or unexcused, are by definition chronically absent and will not be allowed to participate in non-academic school activities (e.g., prom, in-school games, dances, field trips, and field days). Doctor’s notes and health plans will be taken into consideration when reviewing status for participation in non-academic school activities only when a student has not accumulated 3 or more unexcused absences. 18 Field Trips

To address problems with chronic absenteeism and behavior, students in Grades K-12 who accumulate 3 or more unexcused absences per semester or more than one day of out of school suspension and/or four or more days of in school suspension will not be allowed to participate in field trips. Exceptions will be district-wide field trips.

Dress Code: Please make sure that shorts/skirts are the appropriate length and tops are dress code acceptable as well.

Remember that our school day begins at 7:35.

We've got lots of exciting things planned to finish out the year! Let's have a GREAT week at the Creek!

March 9, 2026

Creekside Elementary has officially been recertified as a Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence, Lighthouse School, the highest achievement level of Blue Ribbon Schools. This recognition reflects the continued commitment of our entire school community to excellence in leadership, learning, and service.

This accomplishment would not be possible without the incredible support and dedication of our faculty, staff, students, parents, and community stakeholders. Each of you plays an important role in helping us showcase the amazing work and learning happening every day at Creekside Elementary.

We need your help with one more survey. This survey is provided by the Alabama State Department of Education and is an important part of our annual review process. Your input helps provide valuable insight and plays a key role in highlighting the strengths of our school community. See the link below.

Thank you again for your continued support and for partnering with us to make our school a wonderful place for students to learn and grow.

We look forward to seeing many of you at parent conferences Thursday! Stay safe in tonight's storms and have a wonderful spring break!

Hello Creekside Family!

As I sit here tonight with my 2-year-old granddaughter, Indigo, aka Elsa, who refused to go home with her parents, and an 86 year old father-in-law with Alzheimer's who challenges us all the time, I am reminded of how important balance is in our lives. Life has taught me to choose joy and experience every moment. That's why I love every single smile, hug, or conversation I have with your children. i am so happy you are part of our Creekside Family.

We had fun watching the 3 on 3 tournaments. So many lessons were learned and kids had a great time!

Please take a few moments to complete the Blue Ribbon Schools Survey. Your child received a letter that has a unique code for you to complete the survey.

We have such an extraordinary school and community. Help us share that with others.

5th grade parents, watch for a pre-registration link for 6th grade at East.

Read Across America Week is coming up March 2-6.

Opportunities to participate in American Heart Association Kid's Heart Challenge will be sent home this week.

Support East Limestone basketball, Monday, Feb. 23rd at 5:20 p.m.

Thankful for a supportive school family! Have a great week!

I hope you all enjoyed the sunshine and warmer temps today!

Surveys- Please take a moment to complete the Blue Ribbon Schools surveys that were sent home last week. Each child was given a letter with a unique code. Check those folders and backpacks for the letters.Thank you to the 45 parents who have completed surveys.

Wednesday- Southern Research will visit to share some exciting STEAM activities with students.

Thursday- 4th graders will enjoy a field trip to experience the symphony.

Good Luck to Coach Davis and the East Limestone basketball team! Creekside will be cheering as you head to Wallace State Thursday.

Let's have a great week!

February 4, 2026

Hello Creekside Families,

Tomorrow, we will be conducting our second Safe Defend Drill of the year. I'm sure many of you have heard about the threat that was sent to Ardmore High School this morning. The Safe Defend Drills give us an opportunity for Officer Gentry, the four administrators at Creekside, and our Safety Director, to not only conduct a drill, but also to review and reflect on any areas that we need to improve on in order to keep all students and staff safe. Safety is our number one priority. Kids cannot learn if they do not feel safe.

Surveys: 5 years ago Creekside Primary and Creekside Elementary were named Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence Lighthouse Schools. As week seek to renew our status at Lighthouse schools, we are asking that you complete surveys to help us know areas where we are doing well as well as areas where we need to improve. These surveys will be coming home in the next few days. Each survey has a unique code that cannot be traced to individuals. Please help us by completing surveys as soon as possible.

In March, we will be sending out surveys from the State Department of Education. The results of these surveys will also be used to help us identify areas of strength and areas of weakness so that we can develp action plans for improvement.

Join us tomorrow night, Thursday, February 5th, at 5:30 in the school cafeteria for a PTO meeting. We have several events planned and need lots of help in making them run smoothly.

January 26, 2026

Hello Creekside Families!

I hope you are all staying warm. As I am sure you heard, we are on a 2-hour delay tomorrow, Tuesday, January 27th. School will begin at 9:40.

Valentine's Day Crumbl cookies will be delivered on Feb. 5th & 6th. Crumbl does not allow catering orders during Valentine's week. We apologize for any confusion.

Please take a few minutes to clean out book bags with your student. Remove old papers and materials, toys, stuffed animals, and any other things that are not needed at school. Please talk to your child about not bringing toys, stuffed animals, Pokemon and other trading cards to school. Also, we have plenty basketballs, footballs, etc. so there is no need to bring those either.

Remember, water bottles brought to school should only have water in them. We've had some spills recently with bottles that had soda in them. We know hot chocolate is tempting on these cold mornings, but any cups brought to school should only have water in them.

Students being dropped off through car line MUST use the road that is south of the main entrance to CES. The only vehicles that are allowed to use the main entrance are parents who are dropping off CNN students and Creekside Chiefs because they have jobs before school. Thank you for your cooperation.

Selected fourth grade students will be taking the NAEP test on Thursday. NAEP is the National Assessment of Educational Progress. This test provides a snapshot of what America's students know and can do in core subjects. We will have 4th graders testing in reading and math. Students were randomly selected by NAEP. Students and parents have been notified if their child will be testing. We know that our students will help Alabama SHINE!

Bundle up. Please tell your students that they should have coats on when they get off the buses and when they leave to go home.

Have a GREAT week!

~DR

January 11, 2026

Hello Creekside Families! Layer up this week. It's going to be COLD in the mornings.

We are happy to have Dr. David West join our 4th grade team and Mrs. Chesney Hardiman to join our 5th grade team.

Letters for 2nd semester tutoring were sent home Friday. Those letters MUST be returned by Wednesday, January 14th so that we can make plans for teachers, bus routes, and other logistics. Invitations to tutoring are based on student data. If students attended first semester, they may not need to attend for the remainder of the year. Please make sure you look for the tutoring letters.

Select 4th graders will be participating in NAEP testing on January 29th. NAEP is the National Association of Educational Progress, commonly called the Nation's Report Card. Our counselor, Mrs. Lowe, will be hosting coffee with the counselor on January 16th to provide parents with more information.

We are finishing up mid-year assessments and we are so proud of the growth that our students have achieved. Keep encouraging your children to do well. On these cold evenings, read for enjoyment. Ask students to show you what they are working on in different classes. Ask them to show you what they are doing in math. It looks different from the formulas that we memorized, but students can explain their thinking and that amazes me.

Please check your child's lunch account and pay any balances.

Stay healthy and let's have a GREAT week at the Creek!

Hey Creekside Families,

It's hard to believe that this is the last post for 2025! As we wind down the first semester of the school year, please talk to your child about all they have learned over the last few months. What was their favorite story or book? What's their favorite math strategy? What's their favorite STEAM, art, music, or library moment? What's their favorite p.e. activity? What have they done in science and history?

Your children are absolutely INCREDIBLE! I am so thankful that you share them with us at Creekside.

It is going to be COLD in the morning, so bundle those babies up. If they ride the bus, tell them they better still be bundled up when they get off the bus.

Christmas parties will begin after 1:00 on Friday. Check with your child's teacher for exact times.

If I don't see you this week, have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Stay safe and warm and we will see you on January 7th!

Much Love,

Dana Rhinehart

Hello Creekside Families,

I want to say a huge shout out to our PTO and all the volunteers that helped with Cookies with Santa. Thank you for all you do for our school! Everything was wonderful!

This week we will be completing the mid-year iReady math assessment. Please encourage your child to do their very best so we will have a good picture of each child's needs for the remainder of the year. It's hard to believe we are so close to the end of the first semester.

Please put your child's name and teacher's name on their jackets and coats. This will help us with identifying where lost items need to go.

Hello Creekside Families! I can't wait to see you all in the morning. It's going to be cold and damp, so dress warmly. Wear your favorite red or green to help us kick off December!

Cookies with Santa is Saturday from 10:00-12:00. You can pre-order wristbands through Tuesday.

You can still place orders of your child's artwork for our art fundraiser, Art to Remember. Students created projects in art recently that can now be purchased online printed on all different keepsakes and gifts, just in time for the holidays. All students received order forms and access codes for their art in October, but you can also look up their artwork using their names at ArtToRemember.com. Right now, we only have 18% total participation from the school. If we can get to 20%, our school will receive a bonus profit! All money raised from this fundraiser is used to purchase new consumable art supplies used by all students every week when they come to art. For any questions about this fundraiser, please reach out to our art teacher Ms. Rogers.

Remember to return devices to school tomorrow, charged and ready for use.

Have a great week!

Hello Creekside!

We're looking forward to another great week! Part of our 4th graders will be visiting Cathedral Caverns on Tuesday and the others will be attending on Wednesday. We also have a group of 5th graders who will be heading to Washington D.C. on Wednesday for a memorable trip to see many of our country's treasures.

Our counselor, Mrs. Lowe, and our art teacher, Ms. Rogers, trained a diverse group of 4th and 5th graders to become peer helpers on Friday. We are super excited to have a group of peers who are trained to help classmates and guide them in making good decisions. See the SMORE newsletter for more information on what peer helpers are.

September is Attendance Awareness Month. We want everyone to know how important attendance is to a child's education. Let's have fun this week while we emphasize attendance.

Hello Creekside Families! This week we celebrate Grandparents Week and our Fall Book Fair. We know that many students don't have grandparents in town, so parents are welcome to join us for lunch too. While you are on campus, feel free to stop by the library and shop for some special books for your favorite students. On Monday and Tuesday we will welcome our kindergarten and first grade grandparents. On Wednesday, we welcome grandparents of 2nd and 4th grade students. Thursday is for 3rd and 5th grade parents. If you cannot make it on the designated day, you are welcome to join us Friday or reach out to your child's teacher for another day.

Our Book Fair is a great time for students to purchase a special book or two of their own. There is nothing quite like owning your own favorite books.

Thursday at 5:30, our PTO will host a ZOOM PTO meeting. Check out the Creekside PTO Facebook page for details.

School Picture Day is Friday! These are the pics that will be in the yearbook! We love Spoiled Rotten Photography. They do a great job of capturing the personalities of our students. East Spirit Sales will also be available on Friday.

Plan ahead- September 17th is a Professional Learning Day for Teachers. Students will not attend school on that day.

Have a great week!

Thank you to everyone who helped us with Boosterthon 2025! We had pledges from 40 states and 6 countries. It is NOT too late to make donations. You have until September 5th to make donations. Help us create the BEST STEAM classrooms and enhance learning experiences at Creekside!

Tomorrow is a big day with bus changes. Everyone who is affected should have received a letter from their bus driver. Check out the CES Facebook page or the newsletter for details. Also, we still need bus drivers.

Lunch accounts- Please remember to reapply for free and reduced lunch. September 11th is the last day to receive free or reduced prices from last year's application. PLEASE complete the new application to avoid charges to your child's account. Please check your child's account and pay any balances.

We love staying busy at Creekside with opportunities for families to join us. Next week, we kick off Grandparents week and our elementary fall book fair! On Monday, September 8th, grandparents of Kindergarten and 1st grade girls are invited to join us for lunch. Tuesday, September 9th, is for Kindergarten and 1st grade boys. Wednesday, September 10th is for 2nd and 4th grades. Thursday, September 11th is for 3rd and 5th grades to enjoy lunch with grandparents or other special people in students' lives.

It's going to be a GREAT week at the Creek!

Hello Creekside Families! We are off to a great start for the new year! Our PTO has done a fabulous job with helping us welcome everyone back for our 25th year at the Creek. Don't miss out! Get involved with our PTO!

Have you registered your student(s) for the Creekside Fun Run yet? Visit MyBooster.com to get signed up today and be part of the excitement! Our Kick off is Thursday for our main fundraiser of the year.

Wear your house shirts or colors Friday. We will be sorting our new students into their houses.

Did you know that if you sign up to substitute with LCS, that you can designate exactly what days you are available and which schools you would like to join as a guest teacher? We need you at the Creek!

We still need bus drivers. Another driver drove her last route Friday afternoon due to some medical issues. That leaves us with 3 open positions at Creekside. You may apply at lcsk12.org.

Remember that everyone must reapply for free/reduced lunch each year. The grace period ends soon. We already have students with lunch debt. Please monitor your child's lunch account and pay off any debt promptly.

Have a great week!

Good Evening Creekside! This is Dana Rhinehart, principal at CES. We had a FANTASTIC first full week of school!

CAR LINE- YOU MAY ONLY TURN RIGHT WHEN EXITING CREEKSIDE ELEMENTARY CAR LINE. EVERYONE SHOULD ENTER AND EXIT CAR LINE THROUGH THE NEW ACCESS ROAD, SOUTH OF THE SOCCER FIELDS. Please help us keep traffic flowing and safe for everyone!

BusTransportation- Check out the LCS Human Resources page for salary schedules and information on becoming a bus driver. Creekside currently has two open routes. We are dividing those students among other buses which makes for LONG rides for some of our students and crowded buses.

Dinner plans Tuesday night= Zaxby's in Athens- 5:00-8:00 is Creekside PTO night- A percentage of proceeds will be donated to Creekside PTO.

Thursday night at 5:30 - PTO meeting in the cafeteria

BOOSTERTHON Kicks Off August 21st! Get ready for some FUN while raising funds for Creekside!

If you need help with free/reduced lunch applications, Rooms, or anything else, please reach out to us.

Hello Creekside Families! This is Dana Rhinehart, principal at Creekside Elementary. If you haven't heard, we are celebrating 25 years at Creekside this year. It's going to be a fantastic year!

Thank you for being patient as we work out the beginning of the year kinks with communication and transportation. Parents should be able to log into the lcs app now. Please remember that all communication will be derived from the email and phone numbers you entered when you enrolled or reenrolled your child. If at any time you change emails or phone numbers, please let us know.

Transportation- Would you like to be a bus driver? Creekside currently has 2 open routes. The pay is pretty great for spending a few hours each day with some amazing students. Until these positions are filled, we will have to split routes when we don't have substitute drivers. Students who ride these buses are called to the library before dismissal with a card with their name and information. The drivers then divide the students to go onto different buses.

Car Line- You may ONLY turn right when leaving Creekside Elementary carline. Trying to wait to turn left causes traffic back ups. Please obey traffic signs and only turn right when exiting campus.

Breakfast is free for all students. We start serving bus riders and students who enter through the north (primary) car line at 7:05 and the south car line at 7:10. Students who wish to eat breakfast must go to the cafeteria first, as soon as they enter campus.

Remember that students need to be in their seats, ready to work at 7:35. School dismisses at 2:40.

There is a link on this newsletter to important Back to School Info that you did not receive earlier due to a glitch in the system. Bookmark this newsletter for all the up-to-date information.
