DKHS WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
"Do A Job"
February 20, 2026
What a great stretch of weather this week. 64 degrees and sunny in mid-February!! Don’t be fooled, I predict we will still have another snow day before spring. As we begin that transition from winter to spring, our winter sports teams are HOT!! Our competitive cheer team set a season-best score and is very sharp as they head into districts soon. We had 8 wrestlers qualify for Regionals, with 7 of our guys traveling to Leslie on Saturday, and Olivia Post wrestling in Portage after finishing in the top 4 at Districts this week.

Olivia Post-3 Regionals Sunday in Portage.
In basketball action, the guys finish their regular season tonight at Galesburg and have won 7 of their last 8 games, including a nice win on Senior Night Tuesday vs Allegan. In that game, Tyler Howland scored his 1000th career point, a feat reached by only 3 others on the men’s side in the history of DKHS. Congratulations, Tyler, it has been a joy to watch you work hard and pursue your goals, and an honor to have had the privilege to coach you for two years. We host District Basketball next week, with games on M-W-F. Our guys are seeded #2 and play Maple Valley on Wednesday in the semis at 7 PM, following the first game with Pewamo-Westphalia and the winner of Monday’s game. We hope to be in the district final Friday night at 7 PM.
It will be a busy week with our Follies performances in the LGI on the 26th, 27th, and 28th. We have shows each night at 7 PM with a Noon matinee on Saturday. Tickets will be available at the door. Parking will be at a premium on Friday night, so arrive early for Follies or basketball.
Earlier this week, we sent a bus-load of 48 kids to the Barry County Career Fair in Hastings. This event provides good exposure and exploration for our students with local employers. Our Allied Health students had a job shadowing field trip to Pennock and were able to connect their classroom learning and see some of that in action in the clinic setting. Many of them were encouraged to hear from current providers how far ahead our DK students from Allied Health are compared to the training they received. We are working hard to make our learning real and relevant. Big Shout Out to Nurse Rhonda for leading the implementation of this class. Mrs. Guthrie is partnering with this CTE program through her Anatomy and Physiology class, which has our kids well-versed in medical terminology, as well as systems and functioning. We will be expanding on this CTE opportunity next year, and I believe our Allied Health program will grow in the coming years.
The scheduling process is going full speed ahead at the high school. Incoming Freshmen are done making course requests, and we will be starting with next year’s seniors next week. We have exciting new options for students with Robotics, choir, and an Allied Health II class, AP Government, vocational math, and others. Also, HS staff will be teaching some exploratory classes to MS kids in Agricultural Science and the various trades classes.
This week’s DO A JOB Hogie’s Heroes are the Allied Health kids who represented DK so well at Corewell Health Pennock during their day in the field. The staff there were very impressed with their maturity, poise, knowledge, and the character they displayed. Nice job, ladies!!

BARRY COUNTY CAREER FEST
On Monday, February 26, tenth through twelfth grade students from DK High School attended the Barry County Career Fest at the Barry Expo Center. This event focued on a wide variety of career choices found in Barry County and allowed high school-aged students from the public and private schools to interact with area businesses and post-secondary educational institutions in pursuit of a possible career pathway.
Astronomy Class' Epic Field Trip to teh Air Zoo Aerospace & Science Museum!
Students dove into a thrilling guided tour of space exploration history, led by an outstanding guide who's both a NASA employee and a museum expert. They marveled at an incredible lineup of historic aircraft, with the WWII planes stealing the show. Classic fighters and bombers had everyone buzzing with excitement! The group soaked up cool insights into aerospace engineering and innovation, and the Smithsonian-affiliated museum turned our classroom lessons into real-life wow moments with authentic artifacts, hands-on exhibits, and inspiring tales of adventure in the skies and beyond. The kids also had a blast piloting the aircraft simulators, putting their skills to the test in exciting flight experiences!
Keep reaching for the stars and dreaming even bigger!
