Once a Lion, Always a Lion!
Dear Goodyear Families,
As we close the book on another incredible school year, we want to thank our students, families, and staff for making Goodyear such a special place to learn and grow.
At Goodyear, kindness is more than a slogan painted on our walls. It is who we are. It is the way students welcome new classmates, support their friends, encourage younger students, and show respect to teachers, staff, and one another. Throughout the year, our students have shown what it means to be Respectful, Responsible, and Safe, and we could not be prouder of our Goodyear Lions.
As summer begins, we encourage all students to continue learning through the Goodyear Summer Reading Program created by Ms. Ross and Ms. Pappagianopoulos, complete the summer math calendar activities, and take advantage of the many opportunities offered through the Woburn Public Library. A few minutes of reading and learning each day can make a big difference.
We are excited to welcome our newest kindergarten students to the Goodyear family this fall, and we send our very best wishes to our fifth graders as they move on to middle school. While they may be leaving our halls, they will always be part of the Goodyear community.
Once a Lion, Always a Lion! đŚ
Thank you for a fantastic year filled with learning, laughter, growth, and kindness. Have a safe, relaxing, and joyful summer. We look forward to seeing our returning Lions in the fall.
Keep Being Kind Lions!
Warmly,
Amanda Williams, Assistant Principal
&
Meg Patrissi, Principal
5th Grade Clap Out: One Last Walk as Goodyear Lions
There were smiles, cheers, high-fives, and a few tears as our fifth graders participated in the annual Goodyear Lion Clap Out. Students and staff lined the hallways to celebrate this special milestone, giving our oldest Lions one final walk through the school they have called home for the past six years. The clap out tradition is a meaningful way to recognize students as they transition from elementary school to middle school.
As they made their way through the building, our fifth graders were applauded by younger students, teachers, and staff who wished them success in their next chapter. We are incredibly proud of the Class of 2026 and all they have accomplished during their time at Goodyear.
Once a Lion, always a Lion. We wish our fifth graders the very best as they begin their middle school journey!
Girl Power
Ms. D'Amato, our Speech and Language Pathologist, had a special fan club! Just look at those girls posing in the photo. Their excitement and smiles say it all. Such a sweet moment that captures the joy and connection our students feel with the caring adults in our school community.
Congratulations, Sophie!
Congratulations to Sophie, whose artwork was selected to be displayed on a commemorative flag celebrating Woburn's 250th anniversary in Woburn Center! We are incredibly proud of her creativity and talent.
Be sure to check out the display and celebrate this special recognition of one of our Goodyear Lions.
A special thank you to the Woburn Historical Society and Ms. Hanna for organizing this wonderful event that highlights our students' talents while celebrating the rich history and community of Woburn. What a great way to honor both our students and our city!
Mr. Gore had some new friends come to town to visit Scary Larry!
A colorful group of M&M's stopped by for a sweet visit. They were so sweet, we weren't sure if they came to see Scary Larry or just melt our hearts! One M&M even asked, "Why did we come to Goodyear?" The others replied, "Because we heard this school is choco-full of amazing students!"
Thank you, Mr. Gore, for bringing a little extra sweetness and fun to our day!
Summer Reading
A big thank you to the Woburn Public Library for visiting Goodyear and promoting summer reading! Our students loved the energy and enthusiasm, and who doesn't love an inflatable dinosaur? đŚ
We encourage all families to keep reading this summer. Be sure to visit the library, sign up for the summer reading program, and get a library card if you don't already have one. Reading all summer long helps students stay engaged and ready for a great start to the new school year!
We are so proud of our Goodyear students and their reading progress this year! School may be out of session, but reading should still be a part of your childâs daily routine. Children who donât read over the summer can lose phonics skills they have learned this year. They also miss out on the pleasures of a good book which can teach them vocabulary, background knowledge, and strengthen their empathy skills. Parents can do many things to help their children stay on top of their reading. We invite you to try out some of these suggestions:
Have students read! They can read to you, themselves, family members, and pets! You can read to them. Try both! Reading can be such a beautiful and natural way to connect with your children and can help make difficult conversations easier. You will learn a lot about each other when you read together.
Think about visiting the library every week or two for new material. Create an excitement for reading by allowing your child to choose their own books. If you canât make it to the library download the Libby and Hoopla apps to bring digital and audio books into your home. These are great to listen to as you travel near and far this summer. Visit the Woburn Public Library website to learn more. You will need a library card to get started.
https://woburnpubliclibrary.org/
Visit a Little Free Library and look for books for your whole family to read. We have one here at the Goodyear School. Did you know that when kids see adults read it increases the likelihood that they will read? Visit their website to find a LFL near you or download their app to find little libraries wherever you visit.
https://littlefreelibrary.org/
Participate in the Woburn Public Library Summer Reading program. Information went home this week with your child.
Come to the Goodyear Book Swap on July 29th from 6:00-7:00. Students will bring gently used books to swap. We will have an adult table as well.
Give the Barnes and Noble Summer Reading program a try and earn a free book. You donât have to purchase books there to participate but you do get to choose a free book when you complete their reading log.
https://www.barnesandnoble.com/shop/summer-reading-free-book-giveaway
Grab some of your childrenâs friends and parents and have a book club. You can each bring the name of a book you loved, read the same book, or read some books together. The Woburn Public Library is a great way to beat the heat and has a lot of nooks and crannies for families and friends to meet in and chat.
Enjoy the process! Let your child choose what they want to read. Donât worry if itâs only graphic novels. They have a lot to offer! When kids choose and are intrigued by a specific title that is what is going to keep them invested in reading this summer and beyond. Happy Reading!
Goodyear Talent Show Shines!
What an amazing morning at the Goodyear Talent Show! Our students wowed the audience with their creativity, confidence, and incredible talents. From singing and dancing to musical performances, comedy, and unique acts, our Lions demonstrated the courage to step on stage and share their gifts with others.
A heartfelt thank you to the staff members who helped make this event possible, including Ms. Murphy, Mr. Gore, Ms. D'Amato, Ms. White, Ms. Watros, Ms. Kapstad, and the many other staff members who supported rehearsals, organization, and the event itself. Your dedication provided our students with a wonderful opportunity to showcase their talents and build confidence.
We are so proud of all of our performers and grateful to the families who joined us to celebrate. The Talent Show was a wonderful reminder of the creativity, courage, and spirit that make Goodyear such a special place.
Congratulations to all of our talented Goodyear Lions on a fantastic show!
Lexia Llama Celebration!
All year long, our students worked hard to build their literacy skills through Lexia, and we were excited to celebrate their accomplishments with our Lexia Llama incentive program!
A special thank you to Ms. Pappagianopoulos for tracking student progress and Lexia data throughout the entire year. Your dedication helped keep our students motivated and focused on their reading growth.
We would also like to thank the staff volunteers who were willing to be "pie'd" as a reward for reaching schoolwide goals. The excitement and laughter made for some unforgettable memories!
Congratulations to the students who achieved the highest Lexia levels this year. Your perseverance, dedication, and commitment to learning are truly impressive. We are proud of the growth shown by all of our students and look forward to seeing them continue to soar as readers.
Keep up the great work, Goodyear Lions!

A Special Thank You to Deb
At Goodyear, we are fortunate to have many wonderful families and caregivers who help make our school community such a welcoming place. Today, we'd like to recognize someone who brightens our mornings in a special way-Deb!
As she arrives each day to drop off her grandson, Deb greets students and staff with a warm smile, kind words, and a positive spirit that is truly contagious. Whether it's a cheerful good morning, an encouraging comment, or simply her uplifting presence at the gate, Deb helps set the tone for a great day ahead.
Recently, Deb surprised our staff with a sweet treat as a gesture of appreciation. While we are incredibly grateful for her thoughtfulness, we want her to know just how much we appreciate her. The kindness, positivity, and sunshine she brings to our school community each morning do not go unnoticed.
Thank you, Deb, for being such a bright spot in our days. Goodyear is a better place because of people like you!

5th Grade Address - Ms. Patrissi
Good morning, families, staff, and most importantly, our incredible fifth-grade students.
Today is a day filled with celebration, reflection, and a little bit of bittersweet emotion. As you prepare to leave Goodyear Elementary and begin your middle school journey, we want you to know just how proud we are of each and every one of you.
For many of you, these hallways have been your second home since kindergarten. You arrived carrying backpacks that seemed almost bigger than you were. You learned your letter sounds, practiced sharing and taking turns, tied your shoes, and discovered what it means to be part of a community.
Principal Kessaris had the privilege of watching many of you during those early years, and over the past two years, Ms. Williams and I have had the honor of seeing you grow into the thoughtful, capable, and compassionate young people sitting before us today.
You have truly embodied our school theme: "Kindness Starts with Me."
At Goodyear, kindness is more than a slogan painted on our walls. It is who we are. It is the way you welcome new classmates, support your friends, encourage younger students, and show respect to teachers, staff, and one another.
You have been role models who demonstrate what it means to be respectful, responsible, and safe.
You have filled this school with unforgettable memories. We have watched you shine on the stage during the Talent Show and our first Drama Club production. We have shared the excitement of Canobie Lake Park, enjoyed visits with Lilly, our therapy dog, and celebrated countless moments of learning, laughter, and friendship.
Your visit to Wonder was the start of how you came together as a class; for some, it was their first experience at a show. The way you supported one another and represented Goodyear with pride showed us just how much you have grown. You carried yourselves with confidence, kindness, and leadership both in and out of the classroom.
As you move on to middle school, remember that the qualities that made you successful here will continue to guide you. Stay curious. Be brave enough to try new things. Stand up for others. Include everyone. And never underestimate the power of a simple act of kindness.
Most importantly, enjoy being young.
Laugh loudly. Make memories with your friends. Stay curious about the world around you, and do not rush to grow up too quickly. Childhood is a little like recess on a sunny day. It moves faster than you think, so treasure these moments.
While we will miss you dearly, we know you are ready for this next chapter. Take the spirit of Goodyear with you wherever you go. Carry our values in your hearts and continue showing the world that kindness starts with you.
Remember, you will always have a home here. Do not be strangers. Once a Goodyear Lion, always a Goodyear Lion.
Congratulations, 5th grade. We cannot wait to see all the amazing things you will accomplish.
Go Lions!

Community Connections
Our students were excited to see Mr. Paladino, our wonderful crossing guard, at the Woburn 250th Celebration! As an active member of the Woburn community, he enjoyed connecting with our Little Lions outside of school. We are so lucky to have such a caring and dedicated crossing guard keeping our students safe each day
Community Night
Thank you to everyone who joined us for Community Night! Despite the warm weather, it was wonderful to see so many Goodyear families and staff members come together for a fun evening. A special thank you to our PTO for all of their hard work in planning and hosting this event. We are grateful for such a strong and connected school community!
Lights, Camera, Learning: Videos for Classrooms and Calm-Down Spaces
Stay tuned for an exciting new feature coming to Goodyear next school year! Several staff members recently partnered with the Woburn Public Media Center to create videos that will support both whole-group delivery and individual student needs.
Goodyear is a special place because of our incredible educators, who go above and beyond to support every learner. We can't wait to share these videos with our students at the start of the school year.
A special thank you to the Woburn Public Media Center for transforming our office into a TV studio with an amazing backdrop, generously gifted by our 5th grade team!
Move-up Day
While our 5th graders celebrated their move to middle school, the rest of our students participated in Move-Up Day! Students spent time with their grade-level peers and had the opportunity to experience what next year may look like.
Please note that class placements have not been finalized or shared at this time. Move-Up Day is designed to help students become familiar with the next grade level and build excitement for the year ahead.
It was wonderful to see students eagerly moving from the first floor to the second, and from the second to the third, as they looked ahead to their next chapter at Goodyear!
Goodyear Lions Roar with Growth!
As we close out another incredible school year, we are proud to celebrate the tremendous literacy growth demonstrated by our students across all grade levels.
This year, our students showed what is possible when hard work, perseverance, excellent instruction, and strong family partnerships come together. Schoolwide, the number of students performing above benchmark expectations doubled from the beginning of the year to the end of the year. At the same time, the number of students performing well below benchmark decreased by more than one-third, reflecting meaningful progress for many of our learners.
Some of the most exciting growth occurred in our youngest grades. Kindergarten students more than doubled the percentage of students meeting or exceeding benchmark expectations as they built the foundational reading skills that will support their future success. Our first graders demonstrated exceptional growth, with half of all students finishing the year above benchmark expectations in literacy.
We also saw impressive gains in our upper grades. Nearly half of our fifth-grade students finished the year performing above benchmark, a testament to their dedication and the strong instructional foundation built throughout their years at Goodyear.
While we are proud of these outcomes, what excites us most are the stories behind the numbers: students who discovered confidence in themselves as readers, students who set goals and worked to achieve them, and students who learned that growth comes from perseverance and effort.
These accomplishments are the result of a school community committed to helping every child succeed. We are grateful for our talented teachers, dedicated support staff, and supportive families who work together each day to create meaningful learning opportunities for our students.
Thank you for being part of another successful year at Goodyear. We look forward to building on this momentum and celebrating even more growth in the year ahead!
Goodyear Students Help Welcome New Families to Woburn
We are proud to celebrate Goodyear students Ali Kligerman and Amalia Clemente for their outstanding community service efforts!
As members of Girl Scout Troop 84204, Ali and Amalia recently completed their Bronze Award, the highest honor a Girl Scout Junior can earn. For their service project, the troop created The Big Book of Woburn for Kids, a resource designed to help children and families who are new to our community.
The book introduces readers to Woburn through a child-friendly lens and highlights local resources, activities, and places throughout the city. It is available in both print and online formats, with online versions offered in multiple languages to better support families from diverse backgrounds.
The troop is generously donating copies to each of Woburnâs elementary schools and other community locations so that new families can access the book wherever they connect with city services.
Thank you, Ali, Amalia, and Troop 84204, for helping make Woburn an even more welcoming place for all!

Field Day was a huge success and a wonderful way to celebrate the end of the school year! A special shout-out to Mr. Slagmolen for organizing a fun-filled day packed with engaging games and activities that kept students smiling from start to finish. Thank you to our parent volunteers and former Goodyear students who helped everything run smoothly throughout the day. Students especially enjoyed rotating through the activity stations, cooling off in the gym, and taking a break with refreshing treats. We are also grateful to Lily, our therapy dog, and Paul for providing a calm and welcoming space where students could relax, connect, and enjoy some extra comfort during the excitement of the day. It was truly a memorable day for our Goodyear Lions!

Change is Simple
Thank you to Change is Simple for providing such an engaging and meaningful enrichment experience for our students! Through hands-on lessons focused on sustainability, environmental stewardship, and making positive choices for our planet, students were actively involved in learning how small actions can create big changes.
Our classes had a blast participating in the activities, discussions, and investigations led by the Change is Simple team. Ms. Weir is especially excited about the new environmental library resources, which will provide students with ongoing opportunities to explore topics related to nature, conservation, and sustainability.
We are grateful for our partnership with Change is Simple and feel fortunate to have such a valuable resource supporting environmental education at Goodyear.
5th Grade Yearbook Party
Always a LION....
Our students were all smiles as they flipped through this year's yearbook, reliving special moments and celebrating the memories made throughout the school year. From classroom activities and field trips to schoolwide events and friendships, the yearbook beautifully captures what makes Goodyear such a special place. A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated 5th grade PTO parent volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure every student was represented and had their moment to shine. The amount of time, care, and attention that goes into creating a yearbook is immense, and we are incredibly grateful for their efforts. Thank you for preserving these memories that our students will treasure for years to come!
Taking the Next Step: Middle School Visits
Our fifth graders recently visited the middle schools they will be attending next year as part of their transition to sixth grade. The visits provided students with an opportunity to tour their new schools, meet staff members, and learn more about what to expect in the fall. We are excited for all of our students as they begin this next chapter of their educational journey. Here is a photo of our future Joyce Middle School Lions during their visit!
Character Trait Assembly
On Monday, June 8, Goodyear Lions gathered for our final character assembly of the year to celebrate students who exemplified the traits of Trustworthiness and Integrity. Students were recognized for being honest, dependable, responsible, and for making positive choices even when no one is watching. In addition to honoring our character award recipients, we celebrated our PAW Award winner, ROAR Award recipient, and students recognized by our specialist teachers. The assembly also included a special recognition of longtime educator Peggy Billings, whose impact on generations of Goodyear students was highlighted through heartfelt tributes, a student rap performance, and a schoolwide dance celebration. It was a joyful morning that showcased the character, community, and spirit that make Goodyear such a special place.
Caught being cute...
A fantastic display of creativity and color!
After the Bell, students had a wonderful time creating paper dragons! The room was filled with creativity as students designed colorful dragons using a variety of materials and artistic techniques. Each dragon was unique, showcasing students' imagination, attention to detail, and artistic talents. It was exciting to see their creations come to life, and the finished dragons brightened the room with their vibrant colors and personalities.
Always fun when Goodyear Lions cross paths out in the community!
Mr. Paladino and Sammy recently ran into each other in the community! We love seeing our Goodyear Lions make connections beyond the school day. These special moments remind us that our school community extends far beyond our classroom walls and helps strengthen the relationships that make Goodyear such a welcoming place for everyone.
Cast Celebration
The cast of 10 Ways to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse gathered for one final celebration together. Throughout the production, these students built strong friendships, developed their talents, and created memories that will last long after the final curtain call. It was wonderful to see the bonds formed within this theater crew and to celebrate all of their hard work and success.
A special thank you to Mr. Gore for creating this exciting new opportunity at Goodyear and for inspiring our students through the performing arts. We look forward to seeing the theater program continue to grow!
Recess Fun in 2nd and 3rd Grade
Our 2nd and 3rd graders made the most of recess with a fun and adorable train of friends! It was wonderful to see students laughing, working together, and enjoying time outdoors. The train of fun they created brought smiles to everyone's faces and was a great reminder that some of the best memories are made during playtime with friends.
Learning the States Through Song!
What a fun way to learn the states! Students used music to help memorize all 50 states, making geography engaging and memorable. The song may be a little different from the one many of us learned in school, but it certainly got everyone singing and learning!
Career Day in First Grade!
The future is looking bright for our first graders! From teachers and doctors to engineers, athletes, and artists, our students proudly dressed up as the careers they dream of pursuing one day. It was wonderful to see their excitement, creativity, and big aspirations on display. We can't wait to see all the amazing things they accomplish in the years ahead!

Celebrating a Remarkable Career
Ms. Billings Retirement - 26 years in education!
After 26 years of dedicated service in education, we congratulate and celebrate a beloved Goodyear educator as she begins her well-earned retirement!
Her journey in Woburn Public Schools began at the White School, where she spent two years as a Title I teacher. She then joined the Goodyear community, teaching 1st grade for five years, 2nd grade for fourteen years, and finishing her career in 3rd grade for the past five years. A graduate of the University of Maine and Cambridge College, she has touched the lives of countless students and families throughout her career.
One of her favorite traditions was the annual "All About Me Jamboree." After writing autobiographies, her second-grade students would celebrate as published authors, welcoming parents, grandparents, and classmates to share in their accomplishments. It became a cherished event that families looked forward to each year.
Beyond the classroom, Ms. Billings has been a driving force behind the positive culture that makes Goodyear such a special place. She led Goodyear Goodies, organized memorable staff culture-building events such as March Madness Bowling and many other celebrations, and served as a valued member of our Instructional Leadership Team. This year, she spearheaded our MCAS positivity efforts, piloted Reveal Math, and mentored many young educators as they developed their craft. Ms. Billings has a gift for putting smiles on the faces of both students and staff. Whether she was planning a celebration, offering support to a colleague, or showing off an occasional Irish jig in the hallways around St. Patrick's Day, she brought joy, energy, and laughter to our school community.
When asked for advice to future educators, she shared, "Work hard, but play just as hard!"
As she reflects on her career, she says she will miss the students and staff she has come to know over the years. Looking ahead, she is excited to spend more time with her family and is especially looking forward to escaping New England winters by spending part of the season somewhere warm and snow-free.
Thank you, Ms. Billings, for your years of dedication, leadership, kindness, and commitment to the children and families of Woburn. Your impact on Goodyear School will be felt for years to come. We wish you endless adventures, relaxation, and happiness in retirement!

Safe School Award Winner - Goodyear Elementary School
Recently, Safe Schools conducted an audit of the Woburn Public Schools, and we are proud to share that Goodyear Elementary was recognized as a Bronze Award Winner for our commitment to school safety.
Ms. Williams attended a special ceremony at the Massachusetts State House to accept this prestigious award on behalf of our school. Pictured here with Ms. Williams is Ms. Kent from Hurld-Wyman, another school recognized for its outstanding safety efforts.
This achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of our entire school community. From carefully planned arrival and dismissal procedures to the daily efforts of staff, families, and students, everyone plays a role in helping keep our school safe and welcoming.
We are incredibly proud of this recognition and grateful to all who work each day to ensure that Goodyear remains a safe place for learning, growing, and thriving!
Ninja Gym
A big thank you to our PTO and Ninja Gym for visiting Goodyear on Monday! Students had an amazing time moving, sweating, and challenging themselves through a variety of fun activities.
This was a whole-school event, and the excitement could be felt throughout the building. From our youngest learners to our oldest students, everyone had the opportunity to participate and have fun while staying active.
A special thank you goes to the PTO members who spent the entire day at school to help coordinate the event and ensure everything ran smoothly. Your time, energy, and dedication helped make this a memorable experience for all of our students.
We appreciate all you do for the Goodyear community!
3rd Grade Trolley Tours
Our 3rd graders were picked up in style by the Woburn Historical Foundation and enjoyed a special trolley tour around Woburn! During the trip, students learned about local landmarks, important historical events, and the rich history of our community, all connected to the 3rd grade social studies standards.
Learning about the history of the place we call home helps students develop a deeper understanding of their community and the people who helped shape it.
The day was filled with learning, laughter, and exploration. Students returned to school with smiles on their faces, t-shirts, treats, and plenty of stories to share about their adventure.
A big thank you to the Woburn Historical Foundation for providing such a memorable and engaging experience for our students.
Lily
What a great way to start the day! Next Friday will be our last Friday with Lily this school year. Goodyear has been so lucky to have her bright smile, positive energy, and kindness as part of our community. She brings joy to students and staff alike, and we are grateful for all the special moments she has shared with us.
Thank you, Lily, for making our Fridays a little brighter!
Last Day for Interventionists
Our five interventionists make a profound impact on our Goodyear students every single day. During small group reading, they target specific literacy needsâtailoring instruction across grades and groups to focus on essential phonics, fluency, and comprehension skills. In math, they provide vital support during independent work and center-based learning. Beyond academics, our interventionists treat every student with deep respect and kindness, building meaningful community relationships that leave a lasting academic and emotional connection. We appreciate their flexibility, willingness to jump in however needed, and positive attitude while carrying out their busy schedules. We thank them for a great year and look forward to their continued work with us next year!
K - Countdown
As we begin our Kindergarten Countdown to the End of the School Year, we are kicking things off with A for Alphabet Day!
Students are invited to come dressed as their favorite book, movie, TV, or story character. We can't wait to see everyone's creativity and celebrate together.
Aria Brenna's PJ Day!
A huge shoutout and congratulations to Aria Brenna for her fantastic victory in this year's Turkey Trot! Aria outran the competition to take home the win, but the best part? She got to choose the reward for the entire school.
Aria opted for ultimate comfort and picked a PJ Spirit Day! There truly was no better way to wrap up our week than ending our Friday all comfy-cozy in our favorite pajamas. Thank you, Aria, for the big win and the awesome Friday vibes!

Mobile Mini Whinnies (a traveling miniature horse program that brings gentle, friendly miniature horses to schools and community events) came to Goodyear this week!
What a special treat for our students and staff. The miniature horses were adorable, and everyone loved spending time with them. From smiles and laughter to plenty of pets and photos, the visit brought lots of joy to our school community. Even the staff couldn't resist stopping by to meet these cute four-legged visitors!
Happy Staff = Happy Students
Our staff celebrated two exciting milestones as we honored Ms. Christina and Ms. Sullivan ahead of their upcoming weddings. It was wonderful to come together and share in their joy during this special time.
We wish them both a lifetime of happiness, love, and cherished memories. Congratulations, Ms. Christina and Ms. Sullivan, and best wishes for a beautiful wedding day!

June 5th - PAJAMA DAY
Get your favorite slippers ready! Friday, June 5th is our next school spirit day, and the theme is Pajama Day!
This extra-cozy theme comes to us courtesy of Aria Brennan, who won the special opportunity to choose a school-wide themed day. She knew exactly what would make the whole school smile, and chose Pajama Day to bring some comfort and fun to our classrooms. We can't wait to see everyone showing off their favorite PJs!
Goodyear Welcomes Community Leaders for a School Tour!
Goodyear was proud to welcome Mayor Mike Concannon, Mayor of Woburn; Chris Kisel, Chief of Staff; Dr. Matthew Crowley, Superintendent of Schools; Colleen Cormier, School Committee Member; Jessie Wetzel, School Committee Member and Goodyear Parent; and Ian Hunt, School Resource Officer, and Brynn Dunn, School Resource Officer, for a tour of the many great things happening at our school.
During their visit, they reviewed data showing significant student growth, watched Talent Show auditions, visited classrooms, and even joined our 1st graders for their campfire celebration. It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase the hard work of our students and staff and the positive culture that makes Goodyear such a special place.
We are incredibly fortunate to have such supportive partners in Central Office, City Hall, and the Woburn Police Department who are invested in the success of our students and school community. Thank you for your continued support of Goodyear!
Mayor Meets Future Mayor đď¸
Auditions!
Goodyear students are showing off their talentsâtalent show in one month. We canât wait to see them shine beyond the classroom!
6-7
Our lunch monitors are absolutely rocking it! They continue to build strong relationships with our students while bringing so much positivity and fun to the cafeteria each day. It's also pretty funny that "^-&'" is still trending at Goodyear! đ Ms. June has fully embraced it and is really getting into the spirit of things. Thank you to our lunch monitors for helping create a welcoming, joyful environment for our students every day.
Uno!
Ms. Patrissi took some time to connect with students through a game of Uno. These simple moments help build trust, strengthen relationships, and create a positive school community. There was plenty of laughter, friendly competition, and great conversation around the table!
Math Interactive Boards
Our new Math Achievement Boards are making their debut at Goodyear! These boards help celebrate student growth, effort, and achievement while encouraging everyone to become true Mathletes.
A special thank you to Emily Shaw, our Content Specialist, for all of her hard work and dedication in making math a major focus at Goodyear. Her leadership, creativity, and commitment to student learning are helping build excitement and confidence in mathematics throughout our school. We are grateful for all she does to support our students and staff!
1st Grade Celebration!
Our 1st graders gathered all around the campfire to celebrate a well-earned achievement this week. They filled their Star Jar through their hard work, positive choices, and teamwork. We are so proud of their commitment to being kind, responsible, and respectful learners. Congratulations, 1st grade, on reaching your goal and earning this special celebration
Building Relationships
Ms. Jill and a student watching classmates on the TVâbuilding connection, confidence, and classroom community.
Museum of Science
Our 3rd graders recently went on an unforgettable field trip, and they had an absolute blast! It was a wonderful opportunity for hands-on learning outside of the classroom.
We want to extend a massive thank you to our 3rd-grade teachers for organizing such a fantastic experience. We also want to give a huge shout-out to our students: their behavior was absolutely stellar, and they represented Goodyear so incredibly well. You can see the pure joy and excitement in the smiles on their faces in the pictures below. This is definitely a trip they wonât soon forget!
Lily - Goodyear's Therapy Dog
When Lily, Goodyear's therapy dog, walks through the hallways, she arrives like a rockstar! Students and staff can't help but smile when they see her. Friday, Lily has some serious hallway cred. In fact, rumor has it that her autograph is now worth more than a homework pass!
And while Lily soaks up the spotlight, we have to give credit where itâs dueâher handler, Paul, is the calm behind the sparkle, the steady hand behind the fame. (Heâs pretty cool too⌠but donât tell Lily, she already thinks she runs the building.)
Whether she's greeting students, providing comfort, or simply brightening someone's day, Lily continues to make a positive impact on our school community. We're lucky to have such a beloved member of the Goodyear family!
Ms. Patrick has won the coveted Wooden Spoon
at the Goodyear Bake-Off! Congratulations!

Morning Meeting Fun!
Morning Meeting is a great time to build community and have some fun. It starts the day with peers, helping students connect, collaborate, and begin their learning in a positive and welcoming environment.
Reptiles!!!!!
A huge thank you to the PTO for bringing Rainforest Reptiles to our school for an exciting enrichment program! Students had an unforgettable experience learning about amazing animals and getting up close with some fascinating reptiles. We hope they brought all the reptiles out because students were completely wrapped up in the experience! It was definitely a day when learning had a few extra scales and smiles mixed in. đđŚ Thank you to the PTO for providing engaging opportunities like this that bring learning to life. Everyone truly enjoyed the enrichment program!
Water Safety
Today, students participated in an engaging and important Water Safety Assembly. A special thank you to Ms. Gosselin, a Goodyear parent, for volunteering her time and sharing her passion for water safety with our students. With warmer weather approaching and more opportunities for water activities ahead, the information shared was timely and valuable.
Students were fully engaged and learned important safety tips that could one day save a life. Addy Gosselin proudly joined her mother on stage, helping make the presentation even more special for our school community.
Thank you again to Ms. Gosselin for helping keep our students informed, prepared, and safe as we head into a season filled with sunshine and water fun!
Second Grade Internal Field Trip
Can it get any cuter???
Second grade students enjoyed a wonderful outing to Leland Park, where they spent time playing, moving, and making memories together. The class kicked off the fun at the neighborhood playground and enjoyed a special snack provided by the PTO.
One of the highlights of the day was being joined by a group of therapy puppies. Students learned about the benefits of therapy dogs and how they can provide comfort, support, and connection. It was hard not to smile seeing so many adorable puppies together, creating excitement and joy for everyone involved.
The combination of fresh air, movement, learning, and plenty of puppy cuddles made for a memorable experience for our second graders!
Before the Bell
Take a look at our summer bucket lists and flower activities in action! A little kindness, creativity, and positivity before the bell helps everyone bloom into a great day. đâ¨đź
After the Bell
The After the Bell students put their creativity on full display with beautiful cupcake liner paper flowers, and they were a huge hit! The colorful creations were so impressive that many of us agreed they would be a bestseller on Etsy. đ¸
Great job, Lions!
Testing Positivity
Ms. Williams brought the beats and the fun, while Ms. Mullin brought the cheerleaders, creating an exciting atmosphere for our 5th graders as they geared up for testing. There was music, energy, dancing, and plenty of smiles. Who says test prep cannot have a little fun mixed in? If great dance moves earned points on testing, our 5th graders would already have perfect scores! đľđđ
We cannot get over the incredible school-wide effort to cheer on our testers throughout the past month. The encouragement, excitement, and support from our entire school community have made a big difference.
A special thank you to the PTO for providing snacks to keep our students fueled and ready to do their best.
And we have to mention the dancing skills of our 5th graders. They brought the energy and the moves. Ms. Patrissi may have even picked up a few new dance moves along the way! Great job, Lions! đŚ
Memorial Day Program
On Friday, May 22, our Goodyear Lions came together for a meaningful Memorial Day Assembly to honor the brave men and women who served our country and made sacrifices to protect our freedoms. Students reflected on the importance of gratitude, kindness, courage, and service to others.
Kindergarten students proudly led the Pledge of Allegiance while holding flags, Grade 1 students shared a Memorial Day acrostic poem and sang âYouâre a Grand Old Flag,â and Grade 2 students also participated with a special poetry presentation.
The assembly concluded with a schoolwide moment of reflection, reminding everyone that even small acts of kindness, respect, and helping others are ways we can honor the spirit of Memorial Day every day at Goodyear. Thank you to our students and staff for making this a thoughtful and meaningful school community event. đşđ¸â¤ď¸đ
Lilly
First Grade Celebrates Service Animals đşđ¸đž
As part of our Memorial Day Assembly, First Grade celebrated service animals and had a special treat afterward with a private visit from Lilly. Lilly and Paul have given so much to our school community through their kindness and service, and we are so lucky to have them as part of Goodyear. Thank you, Lilly and Paul, for making such a positive impact on our students! đâ¨
Lexia Llama
Ms. Gibbons and Ms. Hardy for the WIN! đ Take care of those llamas and keep reading to them. Keep up the great work! đđŚ
Goodyear Goodies
Ms. Billings hosted her last Goodyear Goodies School Store as she prepares for retirement. We have all been so lucky to have her over the years. She will truly be missed. From being the coupon-cutting queen to always helping raise funds and âthe lootâ for Goodyear, her dedication and generosity have made a lasting impact on our school community. Thank you, Ms. Billings, for everything you have done for Goodyear! đâ¨
The Ripple Effect
A big thank you to our older students for representing such a powerful example for our younger students. Through the Ripple Effect, they are showing how kindness spreadsâone action at a time. Their positive choices, leadership, and care for others are helping build a stronger, kinder Goodyear community every day. Thank you for leading with kindness! â¨
đŚ Goodyearâs Newest âStudentâ Applicant!
We had a new student try to register at Goodyear today... turns out it was just a turkey visiting! đŚ We checked the paperwork, but he was missing a few documents... and kept gobbling through the interview. Looks like heâs not quite ready to join the Goodyear Lions!

Mayor's Proclamation
Courage, Diligence & Therapy Dog Day Celebration at Goodyear
Goodyear students and staff came together for a joyful schoolwide assembly celebrating our April character traits of Courage and Diligence. Students from every grade level were recognized for demonstrating these important values in their classrooms and throughout the school community. Additional honors included PAW Awards, specialist recognitions, and our exciting ROAR Award celebration, complete with a schoolwide âROAR!â
The assembly concluded with a special celebration of National Therapy Dog Day, highlighted by a therapy dog slideshow and a proclamation read by Mayor Concannon, who shared the many benefits therapy animals provide to individuals and communities. Students then had the opportunity to visit with our incredible therapy dogs: Lilly, Goodyearâs own beloved therapy dog, Cooper from Northeastern, and Sasha from Harvard.
A special thank you to Paul McCaffery, Lillyâs handler, for organizing this impactful event for Goodyear and the Woburn community. It was a wonderful celebration of character, connection, and the positive impact therapy animals have on us all.

A Proud Connection: Former Player and Woburn Memorial Graduate Becomes Author
Iâd like to share a special book, Itâs Still Okay to Laugh by Julie Deveaney Hogan. This sweet and meaningful book was sent to me by a former athlete I had the privilege of coaching.
She was recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, and despite everything she is facing, she continues to inspire others with her strength, positivity, and spirit. I feel incredibly lucky to have had her as a player, and even now, she is still doing great things and making an impact.
Iâm grateful she shared this book with me, and Iâm honored to pass along her message with our Goodyear community.

Goodyear Recess Shines Bright: Sunshine and Staff in Action
At Goodyear, recess is more than just a break. It is a time where our students stay active, build friendships, and feel supported by an incredible team of educators who go above and beyond every single day.
Our playground is full of opportunities for all students to enjoy. From climbing on the play structures, to games in the gaga pit, to time on the turf with a rotating schedule for soccer, kickball, and free play so everyone gets a chance, there is something for everyone.
What truly makes recess special is our amazing staff. We are so fortunate to have an abundance of adults who are dedicated to making this time joyful, safe, and engaging.
Ms. Rhi keeps our playground squeaky clean, and students are lining up for a turn with her handy dandy trash pickers, taking pride in keeping our space beautiful. You can also find her keeping time as students race around the turf, bringing energy, excitement, and a little friendly competition to recess.
Ms. Sarah brings creativity to life by designing movement paths with chalk, encouraging students to stay active and have fun in new ways.
Ms. Anne loves cheering students on and keeping up with all the action on the turf, making sure games are fun, fair, and full of energy.
Ms. Carpenter is always there to lend a helping hand to students who need a quick check in, a visit to the nurse, or a bathroom break. She is a go to for many of our kindergarteners and a comforting, reliable presence throughout recess.
Ms. Kelley and Mr. Albert are helping students tap into their creative side with the art cart (Thank you to Ms. Gibbons for keeping it fresh & replenished), making recess a space for imagination and expression.
While there are a range of staff members supporting different recess blocks throughout the day, these are just a few of the amazing educators who happened to be out and about during these special moments that were captured.
Pictured here, you will also see Mr. Kaio and Ms. Williams, known for giving students that extra push on the swings and making sure everyone feels included in the fun, alongside, Ms. Eileen, who takes time during recess to connect with students, checking in on how their day is going and chatting with them about the upcoming break.
This is just a glimpse of the many staff members who make recess such a positive experience. At Goodyear, we are proud to have a team that shows up with energy, care, and commitment, ensuring every student feels included, engaged, and ready to return to learning with a smile.

REPORT CARDS TODAY
MCAS
This week, our Lion Cub community is gearing up for MCAS! From staff to students, our entire school is cheering on our testers and wishing them the very best of luck.
While MCAS is just one small part of all the meaningful learning that happens at Goodyear each day, it is still an important piece of education. It helps guide instruction, provides valuable data to support student growth, and gives students practice with high-stakes testing they may encounter in the future.
Testing begins next week for students in grades 3â5. To help set them up for success, please make sure your child gets a good nightâs sleep and eats a healthy breakfast each morning.
Please see the schedule above for specific testing dates.
Youâve got this, Lions! đ§Ą
Roar to Success, Lions!
Goodyear Staff Cheers You On!
After the Bell Pickup Safety Notice
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are writing to inform you of an important safety concern regarding student pickup during the After the Bell program.
At this time, we are asking all parents and guardians to exit their vehicles when picking up their children. It has been observed that some students are being asked to walk across the parking lot to reach waiting cars. This is creating an unsafe situation, as the parking lot is an active traffic area with limited visibility.
For the safety of all students, please:
Park your vehicle in a designated parking space.
Exit your car and walk to the main entrance of the school.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe environment for all students. If you have any questions or need accommodations, please contact me at cogibbons@woburnps.com
Thank you for your understanding and support.
Wild About Animals in First Grade!
Our fabulous first graders have been hard at work exploring the world of animals, and their projects that came rolling in this week were nothing short of impressive! As part of their learning, students investigated different animals and how their structures help them survive in their environments. They researched what their animals eat, where they live, and the unique adaptations that help them meet their basic needs for food, water, and shelter.
Students proudly shared their learning through creative and informative projects, showcasing their understanding of how animals use their body parts and behaviors to survive. From sharp claws and strong teeth to camouflage and protective coverings, our young scientists demonstrated a strong grasp of how animals are perfectly suited for their habitats.
We are so proud of the curiosity, effort, and enthusiasm our first graders showed as they brought their animal studies to life!
Safety First, Lions!

Lions Level Up Their Language
Our Lions continue to build strong vocabulary across the building to support testing awareness and overall learning. These words are popping up in classrooms, hallways, and conversations every day!
We challenge you to start using these words at home to help reinforce learning and support your childâs growth. Every word is another step toward confidence and success!
Goodyear Lions showed their support on Thursday by wearing purple to raise awareness for epilepsy. It was a powerful way for our school community to come together, spread understanding, and show support for those affected.
We are proud of our Lions for helping to build a more compassionate and inclusive school community!

Grade 3 truly shined this week with their expected behavior in the cafeteriaâwe are so proud of them! As a special reward, Lilly was able to visit these Goodyear role models and celebrate their success. In addition to the Grade 3 visits, Lilly also roamed the hallways, recognizing and supporting students throughout the building.
Happy Staff = Happy Students
Our staff now has their very own Free Little Library! A big thank you to Ms. Ross for creating this wonderful space where staff can share and enjoy books together.
Reading isnât just for students, itâs a powerful way for staff to recharge, spark new ideas, and stay inspired. A strong reading culture among adults helps build connection, supports well-being, and models a love of learning that carries into our classrooms every day.

At Goodyear, there are so many great things happening each week that itâs hard to capture them all in one place. Our newsletter serves as a celebration of these moments, a space for reflection, and a window into your studentâs day. With so much to share, the file grew a bit too large, so weâve created a new link to continue the updates. Spreading Positivity for MCAS!
At Goodyear, weâre focusing on creating a positive and supportive environment around high-stakes testing. With MCAS right around the corner, our staffâand even members of our wider school communityâhave been sharing messages of encouragement and good luck. Weâre proud to lift our students up, helping them feel confident, prepared, and ready to shine!
Updated Breakfast & Entry Procedures
We have adjusted our morning flow to ensure better supervision and a smoother start for all students. Please review the updated timeline below:
Phase 1: Starting March 18th
8:00 AM â 8:10 AM: Students not attending morning enrichment may enter through the back gate to the cafeteria for breakfast.
8:10 AM â 8:15 AM: Students will be held at the gate by a staff member. This allows the cafeteria staff to transition from the cafeteria to set up the hallway grab-and-go breakfast stations.
8:15 AM: The morning bell rings. Doors open for full building entry. Students can pick up their breakfast at the hallway stations to eat in their classrooms or save for later.
Phase 2: Starting April 27th (After April Break)
When we return from the April vacation, we will transition to a fully Grab-and-Go breakfast model:
Grab-and-Go Only: Breakfast will no longer be served in the cafe.
Access for All: Every student will have access to breakfast via the grab-and-go carts located in the hallways upon entry at 8:15.
Supervision: This shift ensures all students are supervised by staff at their assigned duties during the entry window.

Lilly the Determined Dog
Ivy the Determined Dog was a huge hit with our students! Thank you to our PTO for sponsoring another engaging and impactful enrichment program. Through Ivyâs story, students explored themes of perseverance, goal-setting, and believing in themselvesâeven when things feel challenging. Ivyâs journey reminded us all that determination and a positive mindset can help us overcome obstacles and reach our goals.
St. Patrick's Day Feeling
St. Patrickâs Day was all the buzz at Goodyear! From creative leprechaun traps to the sounds of a bagpiper and Irish step dancers filling the hallways, the day was packed with excitement. Staff and students alike joined in the celebration, bringing energy and smiles to every corner of the building. There may have even been a few shenanigans and playful hooligans spotted along the way!

At Home Challenge
Our students are taking on the MCAS Literacy Challenge by building their vocabulary across the school day. Each week, âWords of the Weekâ are highlighted in classrooms and even in the cafeteriaâturning everyday moments into opportunities for learning. We encourage you to join the fun at home by weaving these words into conversations. Letâs work together to grow strong, confident communicatorsâone word at a time!
March 26th - wear your purple!
Epilepsy Awareness Day
Join us in wearing purple on March 26 as we recognize Purple Day for Epilepsy Awareness. This day helps bring attention to epilepsy, supports those living with it, and encourages understanding and compassion within our community. By wearing purple, we stand together to raise awareness and show that everyone belongs at Goodyear.
Raffle Walk
The Raffle Walk is always a highly anticipated event hosted by our PTO! Students love the chance to try their luck with the themed baskets, adding a buzz of excitement throughout the school. Itâs a wonderful combination of fun and fundraisingâbringing our community together while supporting great opportunities for our students.

Congratulations to the winning classes for their amazing effortsâand a special reminder to take care of our beloved Lexia Llama as the reading excitement continues. Keep turning those pages and reaching new heights!
Lilly
Lilly strolls in on Fridays, and the whole building buzzes with excitement! Students work hard all week in the cafeteria, and Lillyâs visits are a special reward that has truly changed our school. We love having her, and on April 27th, sheâll be bringing her friends to Goodyear to celebrate Woburn Therapy Animal Day, an event that started last year with the official proclamation. A huge thank you to Lillyâs handler, Paul McCaffrey, for organizing the visit. Tentatively invited guests include: Sasha & Steve from Harvard University Police, Alex & Riley from Bunker Hill Community College Police, Dan & Mugsy from the MA Department of Corrections, Meg & Bear from the Middlesex District Attorneyâs office, Rachel & Cooper from Northeastern University Police, and of course Lilly & Paul. We canât wait to celebrate this fabulous Goodyear-only event!

Goodyear Kindness Committee
Kindergarten through second grade students participated in the Lion Cub Literacy Challenge this week, writing heartfelt good luck messages to cheer on our older Lions during MCAS. Our Goodyear Kindness Committee carefully sorted and organized these messages, helping create a positive connection and sense of encouragement around testing. It was a wonderful reminder that kindness starts at Goodyearâand even our youngest students can make a big impact!
Moments of Kindness at Goodyear - caught in the act!
One student wanted to brighten a friendâs day by creating a special message just for themâsuch a simple gesture, yet so meaningful. We love seeing these random acts of kindness happening throughout our school. Itâs moments like these that remind us how powerful kindness can be at Goodyear!
Goodyear is home to some of the hardest working staff in the district, and we love shining a light on who they are beyond the classroom. These highlights give us a glimpse into their passions, talents, and lives outside of schoolâreminding us that the incredible people supporting our students each day bring so much more than just their expertise. Weâre lucky to have such a dedicated and dynamic team!
