B.F. Day Dayette

A Note from the Principal:
Greetings B.F. Day Families,
It's been another active week at B.F. Day. This morning we hosted Senator Pedersen and Superintendent Shuldiner. Both leaders are familiar with B.F. Day. We were able to highlight the BEX Levy funded window replacement project that is happening this summer. It was interesting for me to listen as they discussed broader patterns of needs and strengths across the district's facilities in relationship to levy funded projects. There's good work happening in SPS!
As part of our visit we joined Ms. Tetrick's and Ms. Riepe's classes. The senator engaged students in conversations on the topics what senators do, and how the number of senators for a region are determined. Students asked great questions. The fourth graders, in a lovely impromptu moment, sang a part of their song from the showcase for our guests. We do grow beautiful things under the evergreens.
Our guests were so excited to hear about our amazing Spring Music Showcase at Lincoln High School. I was able to highlight for them the partnership with Creative Advantage and PTSA to bring professional artists and writers into our school to lead students in the creative process. It was short visit, and very positive one.
The Spring Music Showcase was a show stopper! A big thank you to Ms. Bethany for organizing this event and collaboration with Lincoln High School for us to be able to use their beautiful space. We had a full house! So many people helped make this event possible and I'd like to share my abundant gratitude for the opportunity to bring our community together in celebration of the arts and the creations our children shared with us!
No School Monday, May 25th for Memorial Day Holiday
B.F. Day will be closed for the Memorial Day Holiday on Monday, May 25th.
B.F. Day and the Fremont Solstice Parade
Preparations for the solstice parade are well underway! Hoping to see many of you with us in the parade on Saturday June 20. Detailed information coming soon! Email arianewm@gmail.com if you have questions!
Our solstice parade participation will also include a student marching band! We are looking for interested students who play an instrument or would like to play bucket drums. We will be having practices on Fridays - June 5th and June 12th - after school. Please contact zeller.kyle@gmail.com or dantdavies@gmail.com if your student would like to participate.
We are also continuing our tradition of fundraising with our parking lot this year!
Volunteer Appreciation!
B.F. Day is so lucky to have so many family and community members who support our school through volunteering. If you have volunteered this year, please join us on June 4th (field day) for a treat and a thank you. You make a difference and we are so thankful for your support.
June 17th: The Last Day of School Dismissal Time is 1:25
On June 17th, the last day of school, students will be dismissed at 1:25pm. Please stay tuned for our last day of school ritual – our all-school circle. Kinder families, you’re in for the start of a beautiful tradition!
Important Volunteer Information from Ms. Brenna
First and foremost, thank you for your patience and understanding as I’ve attempted to navigate all the district’s changes and updates surrounding the volunteer process. I am hopeful that because of how bumpy it felt this year – this next school year will be smooth sailing! Be sure to log in to your volunteer portal using this guide to stay up to date on your application. If you’ve been at BF Day for a while, it might be time for you to update your application, as they are only good for two years. I appreciate you all!
Notes on Volunteers for Field Day – ALL Welcome
Field Day will be a special day for Volunteers because we will be utilizing our “One-Time School Event Volunteer Role.” As a school, we are permitted to choose one event a year (typically one that needs the most logistical support and has the highest number of volunteers needed) where all our volunteers do not need to have gone through the application process. If you have not done the application process (for whatever the reason, i.e., visiting grandparents, parents who haven’t had time to apply, etc), this applies to you! This provides a low-barrier opportunity for our families to support their students and the school community. Below are the guidelines for this role.
Conditions to Ensure Student Safety:
1. Logistical Support: Volunteers can assist with logistical tasks such as setting up, breaking down, counting laps, and handing out programs. Roles involving direct interaction with students (e.g., coordinating a student activity) must be assigned to approved school volunteers or staff.
2. Supervision: Each volunteer must be supervised by an assigned staff member or an approved adult volunteer for the duration of the event.
3. No Unsupervised Contact: Volunteers must not have any unsupervised exposure or contact with children.
4. Public Settings: Volunteers must remain in open and public settings, always within the unobstructed view of staff or adult supervisors.
5. Sign-Up Agreement: The volunteer sign-up sheet must include an agreement that the volunteer will only volunteer at the school again once they are approved as a school volunteer (a sample agreement is provided on MS Teams for School Volunteer Liaisons).
Changes to 5th Grade Staffing for 26-27
Ms. Brooke has shared this news with her students and families. She is very sad to be leaving our amazing community. The good news is she already knows her placement for next year, and it's a great school.
Ms. Mathan will be teaching math and science in 5th grade next year. She has personal and professional experience to help make the transition to 5th grade a strong one. Thank you for welcoming her to the upper elementary team!
