CPHS WeeklyUpdateAugust 17th, 2026

Greetings from Crown Point High School!

Here is some information for our parents and families as we begin a new week at CPHS. We hope everything is well with our students and families after the severe weather we experienced last week.

First Day of School First Day of School

The first day of school is Friday, August 21st. Students will report to their Resource Period rooms by 7:35 to begin the day. School doors will open at 7. Our first day will be focused on welcoming students back, getting them acclimated to their schedules, and meeting their teachers.

Schedules Schedules

Schedules can be accessed through PowerSchool. Locker numbers will be on the printed schedule that students receive during Resource Period. All students will receive a printed schedule in Resource Period.

You can refer to the CPHS schedule change policy by clicking this link: Schedule Change Policy

Online Courses Online Courses

CPHS students enrolled in Online Health (10-12), Online US History (11-12), Online American Government (11-12 with completion of US History), Online Economics (11-12 with completion of US History), and Online English 12 (grade 12 only) as an 8th period (P17) in PowerSchool should see their course tile in Buzz beginning Wednesday (8/12). If a student isn’t seeing their online course in Buzz by Wednesday (8/12), please have them contact their counselor.

Cell Phones Cell Phones

A new Indiana law prohibits students from using cell phones and other personal communication devices during the school day (7:35am -2:37pm), including passing periods, study halls, and lunch. This is a statewide legal requirement that all public schools must implement. The law applies to cell phones, smart watches, smart glasses, tablets brought from home, etc.

Please be mindful of this Indiana law and talk to your students prior to the first day of school. We will work with students when school starts with school announcements, posters, and reminders.

Student Square Student Square

If parents need to communicate with their child during the school day, one option is the Family Messaging feature in ParentSquare. Students will only be able to communicate with their legal guardians using this feature by being logged into StudentSquare on their Chromebook. You can find instructions in the image linked here: Student Square

Parking Passes Parking Passes

Student drivers may pick up parking passes in the CPHS Attendance before or after school. In order to receive a parking pass, students must bring their driver’s license, car registration, proof of insurance, and parking permit application. There is no charge for the pass.

All students who drive to school must have the pass displayed while in the school lot.

Incoming 9th Grade Chromebook Exchange Incoming 9th Grade Chromebook Exchange

All incoming 9th grade students will receive a new Chromebook to start the school year. If your student was unable to get their new Chromebook last week, please have them stop by the Learning Commons with their old Chromebook and charger. Your student will receive their new Chromebook and charger after dropping off the old items to our Learning Commons staff. Their password is the same as it was last year.

NOTE: Students new to the district should try to come to the Learning Commons to pick up their device and charger as well.

If your son or daughter has been having issues with email or other items being blocked on their school Chromebook, please try this approach before Wednesday:

• Shut down the Chromebook completely.

• Power it back up, making sure to complete any updates.

• Click on the icons next to their name and remove their account from the Chromebook.

• They should then add their school account back onto the Chromebook.

• If that doesn't fix the issues, please visit the Learning Commons for more assistance once school starts.

Safety Reminders for Students

Students should report to a teacher, counselor, administrator, police officer, or any adult in the building if there is a safety concern. It is always better to overreport and be on the safe side.

During school hours (7:00 a.m. to 2:37 p.m.) hats and hoods are not allowed to be worn in our building. This is so that all students can be identified. This is also a part of the CPHS dress code.

Student drivers must remain cautious in the parking lot and near the school. Please remind students to drive slowly and follow the directions of our police officers. All student drivers must have a parking pass displayed in their vehicle while in the CPHS lot and park in a parking spot and not on the curb. Additional parking spaces are available at St. Matthias Church.

Student dismissal is at 2:37 pm. Students who do not have supervised after-school activities should leave the building by 3 pm. Students who are waiting for rides should wait in the lobby of the school near the front entrance.
