As a reminder, this year our school calendar has first semester carrying over the holiday break. Students will finish out their first semester courses (PCSVA) on January 17, 2025. Our second semester will not change over until the week of January 20. Student schedules are available for review in Infinite Campus for both parents and students. Note- students enrolled at PCC must check their email and course schedule since the calendar is different.

Attention 11th & 12th grade students

If you are enrolled in classes at PCC this semester, then check your student email/Blackboard for information on your NEW classes for second semester. Ms. Davis is available to assist if you have any questions. I'm SO very proud of our students dual enrolled in college classes who were successful in earning their college and high school credits. Job well done!

For those interested in attending a public NC system school, please be aware that the testing requirements have changed from the COVID testing guidelines. For students entering in the Fall 2025 or Spring 2026 semesters:

  • High School GPA: A minimum weighted GPA of 2.5 is required.
  • Standardized Test Scores: Students with a weighted high school GPA between 2.50 and 2.80 are required to submit a standardized test score (ACT or SAT)

If you are in the new range that now requires you to submit either the ACT or SAT, please review the following test dates. Note that many national, state, and local scholarships may also require a test score from either the ACT or SAT:

ACT Test Dates:

February 8, 2025

  • Regular Registration Deadline: January 3, 2025
  • Late Fee Applies After: January 20, 2025
  • Late Registration Deadline: January 20, 2025

If you would like to receive more scholarships based on merit (which is often determined by test scores), it is important to send your ACT or SAT scores to colleges. Additionally, if you believe you qualify for a fee waiver for either test, please reach out as soon as possible, as some registration deadlines are approaching.

Grades 6-12 will follow the bell schedule provided during Open House. Student instruction will be provided in asynchronous (independent) and synchronous (live with teacher) formats. Attendance will be recorded daily and within each period. Cameras are expected to be on so that students are visible during instruction.

Construction and Access to PCSVA (3rd floor) Construction and Access to PCSVA (3rd floor)

A lot has changed over the summer in regard to the facilities at Person High School. Much work has been completed, but much is still underway. We thank you for your patience as the construction takes place!

The main entrance of the building is not available for access to the building. Instead, visitors are asked to park in the top part of the gym-side lot, walk down the sidewalk toward the building that is lined with fence and labeled “School Entrance”. At the end of the walkway, there are doors that are serving as the entrance to PHS while the front is not accessible. PCSVA students and families will enter through the Visitors Door at the top of the breezeway to enter near the Media Center.

Parent Drop Off & Pick Up and Student Parking Parent Drop Off & Pick Up and Student Parking

For the 2024-2025 school year, students must be dropped off in front of the gymnasium and not any other building location, such as the front of the school or T-wing lot. Carline is indicated on the map below with yellow arrows. Due to construction, students will enter the building at the entrance indicated by the pink star on the map below.

Student drivers will enter and exit the student parking lot by using the Ridge Road entrance shown in red arrows on the map below.

Visitors to the building will need to park in the upper part of the gym-side lot and enter the building by the media center, indicated by the green star on the map below.

NCSSM Connect Calendar

We align with the traditional school calendar with PCS; the first day for students is Tuesday, August 27, 2024. PCSVA utilizes the Google Workspace platform where teachers will instruct using both Google Meet and Google Classroom. Students enrolled in grades 9-12 also participate in courses through NC Schools of Science and Math. These courses begin on Tuesday, August 27 and courses for students who are enrolled at PCC will begin on Thursday, August 15, 2024. PCSVA courses are asynchronous on Wednesdays.

Our program is designed to focus on effectively providing a high-quality, virtual learning environment for all students and we ask that families commit to being enrolled for the entire school year. Student engagement is critical in the virtual learning environment; therefore, students will be expected to keep their cameras on during synchronous (live) instruction with their teachers and peers. Attendance will be taken based on this policy. There will also be opportunities daily for students to work asynchronously and having parent/family support is strongly encouraged.

While we are able to instruct our students virtually, all district and state-mandated assessments will need to be conducted in person onsite at our location. Assessment schedules and detailed instructions will be provided in advance of each district and state-mandated assessment for 6-12 students.

Fall Athletics Fall Athletics
