Head Cheetah Message
Families,
Wednesday is April 1st! When we return on Monday, we’ll have only two weeks before we break for spring vacation. I am in awe of how quickly this school year seems to be moving. We are finally starting to see and hear some signs of spring. The daffodils and crocuses are beginning to bloom, and the birds are singing!
Wednesday is also Paraeducator & Interventionist Appreciation Day, and Memorial School has the very best! They can be found in every corner of our campus - from the classrooms to the playground. Please remind your learners to say “thank you” to these amazing staff members next week.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Joey & Andrea
Check Out Memorial’s Welcome Sign
Thanks to the EHEPTO, our welcome sign has received some long overdue improvements! Prior to the updates, the sign had an outdated logo, and the tool to access the messaging had long been misplaced. The PTO researched and purchased new signage, and ordered new tools that will allow us to access and change the messages that are displayed. Going forward, our Cheetah Council will be responsible for coming up with monthly messages; and Trish Opgaard, a Memorial School staff member and EHEPTO volunteer, will manage the sign. Thanks to the EHEPTO for taking care of our school community! We look forward to the Cheetah Council's April message.

R Is For Rabbits
Mrs. Gibson’s class continued to learn about the letter R with a visit from some friendly rabbits! Thank you to the Royce family for sharing their furry friends with our Smart Start students.
EHPS K-12 Art Show
On Tuesday evening, the East Hampton Public Schools community was treated to an amazing art show in the front lobby of East Hampton High School. The masterpieces of many talented artists, from grades K-12, were on display for all to enjoy. Thank you to the art teachers in each of our schools who have nurtured a love and appreciation of the arts in all of our learners.
Mrs. Evans’s Class Visits Mystic Aquarium
Thanks to a generous donation from a grade 2 family, Mrs. Evans’s class took a special trip to the Mystic Aquarium to participate in a private touch tank session, and to learn about sea turtles.
The Garden Club Is Back In Action
On Monday, our Garden Club got back together for their first spring meeting. They planted two types of cherry tomatoes, peppers and marigolds to grow indoors. They are under the grow lights in Mrs. Haydu’s classroom. The club members also took a quick trip to the garden and discovered that the garlic they planted in the fall is coming up!
Art Incentive
Some very hard-working 2nd grade students earned extra art for the mystery incentive and for showing cheetah pride! They painted spring flowers... just in time! SPRING has arrived!
PAWSitive Office Referrals
A PAWsitive office referral is submitted when a staff member recognizes a student who is going above and beyond to exemplify one of our three school rules - taking care of others, taking care of self, & taking care of things.
Memorial Models
Memorial Models are chosen weekly by their teacher. These students have excelled all week in taking care of themselves, others and things. The recipients will dine at a VIP table during lunch every Friday!

PreK, K, and Grade 1 - From stretching and exercises to jogging and fitness, the children have done an amazing job! Some of the activities we completed included jumping rope, hula hoops, ball skills, parachute and cooperative games. Their jumping and coordination skills through jump ropes, jumping sticks and skip-its have been very impressive. We also continued to work on their gross motor skills such as skipping, galloping, and slides.
Grade 2 and Grade 3 - We are in our badminton and shuffleboard units, with seven courts for badminton and 4 shuffleboard courts. The students rotate each class to both these stations and spend quality time perfecting their badminton skills (serving, overhead and underhand hits). They also play modified games. Shuffleboard is a great hand-eye coordination game and kids love playing it. The students all work hard on improving their skills and having fun working with their classmates.

Notes From the Nurses Office
Stay at Home Guidelines:
Memorial School understands that deciding when a child or family member is too sick
to go to school or work can be a difficult decision. When trying to decide, use the guidelines
below and seek the advice of your health care provider. Anyone with the following symptoms should not attend school.
Symptoms can vary, but symptoms may include:
- Cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Fever equal to or above 100.4 degrees
- Chills
- Body aches
- Sore throat
- Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea
If students or family members experience any of the above symptoms, please stay home and
contact your health care provider for further instructions. Sending sick children to school is not in
the best interest of the child or their classmates. Children should not be given any medications
such as: Tylenol, Motrin or Advil prior to school to reduce fever. Any child who has vomited or had diarrhea and/or a fever within 24 hours should not be sent to school.

Attendance Matters
Please note
When considering the number of absences your student has accrued, keep in mind that a student must be present for 195 minutes in order for the day to count! When bringing your student in late, or signing them out early if they have not been in school for a 195 minutes the day will be recorded as an absence.
