Parents,

Students will be coming home today with their iReady (diagnostic) Scores from their Reading and Math assessments, taken earlier in the Fall in September.

Students who will be recieving an intervention (from either the reading specialist or teacher in the classroom or case manager) will also bring home a letter explaining the type of intervention being given and how often he/she will be recieving said-service(s).

Below is a letter, from iReady, which will help you understand the scores coming home. If you have questions, we strongly encourage you to read through the PDF attached below before reaching out to your child's teacher and/or administration.

If you do have concerns/questions, they can also be discussed at Parent/Teacher Conferences.

Hello Compass Families!

Today, we are sending home i-Ready screening reports and information about interventions for students who are receiving additional support. These screening results are one piece of your child’s overall learning profile. Teachers consider this information alongside classroom work, observations, and other assessments to help guide instruction and determine how best to support each student’s growth.

Please take some time to review the information coming home today, and reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions. We appreciate your continued partnership as we work together to support every student’s learning and success!

Go Pirates!

Birthday Treats

Celebrations and Birthdays We believe it is important for the school to recognize our students on their birthday and other special days. However, for several reasons including increased food allergies, preservation of the instructional day, and student equality, students are not allowed to bring treats from home or have flowers/balloons or other items delivered to the classroom for birthdays, going-away parties, or other personal events. Each classroom teacher will recognize the student in a special way to celebrate his or her birthday. If a student receives a delivery at school, the student will be notified to come to the office to view the item. Parents will be responsible for transporting the item home. Birthday party invitations may only be distributed if invitations are given to every student in the class.

Parents as Teachers

The Platte County R-3 School District Parents as Teachers program is a free and voluntary program designed to help District families with children prenatal to school age through monthly home visits. The parent educators provide caregivers the knowledge and skills to empower them as their child's first and most influential teacher. Through this program you can learn more about parenting and child development, learn ways to cope with challenges of family life, identify any potential delays in your child's development, and join fun group connections to meet other families in the Parents as Teachers program.

Portrait of a Graduate

Since 2005, Pirates ROCK (Raising Outstanding Character Kids) has helped shape a strong culture of character across Platte County School District. More than 20 years later and beginning with the 2026-27 school year, we're building on that tradition by aligning Pirates ROCK with our Portrait of a Graduate essential skills.

This evolution creates a more consistent, student-centered approach to character development by focusing on the six essential skills that prepare learners to thrive in school, careers, and life. Students will continue to be recognized for demonstrating outstanding character while developing the competencies that support our mission of ensuring every learner thrives in an ever-changing world with confidence and resilience, all through a consistent framework and shared language as they grow from kindergarten through graduation.

Throughout the year, we'll focus on these essential skills:

  • October/November: Self-Awareness
  • December/January: Personal Connections
  • February: Personal Growth
  • March: Problem-Solving
  • April: Global Connections
