Happy Leap Year, Chapelfield Families!
We love reading Life According to Og, the Frog as a school community. It was a perfect connection to Leap Year. On Thursday, Og the Frog came to school to visit students for Leap Year. Og left some frogs in the building for students to find. It was a fun day! I hope your family is enjoying reading together. Remember you can always pull up the videos of teaching teams reading the chapters. You should have read up to Chapter 8 by Monday! Please pay attention to our Read Across America spirit week next week!
House Bill 288 letters went home this week. Please make sure to send back the permission slip by Monday, March 11th to either OPT IN or OPT out on this developmentally appropriate instruction in child sexual abuse prevention with Mrs. Jasin, our counselor.
I hope to see many of you at the Boys Bash tonight.
Have a great weekend.
Sincerely,
Nikki Miller
One School, One Book: Life According to Og the Frog
Hello Families!
This week we had a kickoff for this year’s One School One Book! Students met Og the Frog and received a bag with a copy of the book, Life According to Og the Frog. Thank you to the PTO for purchasing books for every student!! In the bag you will find the following papers:
Welcome Letter explaining One School One Book
Calendar of what chapter to read each day
Questions to answer after each chapter
Each night your child should read the assigned chapter and answer the question that goes with it. This is intended to be a family reading experience, and many of our students will need support in reading the book or having it read to them. There are videos of each chapter being read by staff members of Chapelfield if you would like your child to use those. You can access these videos on the One School One Book website.
Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions.
Hoppy Reading!

Physical Education Update from Mr. Scheibeck
Hello CES families.
I hope everyone is doing well!
We are currently wrapping up a three-week fitness unit where we are learning about muscular
strength, cardiovascular endurance and flexibility. Just wanted to give the students a big shout
out as most classes will have completed two 15-meter pacer tests (Grades 2-5). The pacer
really helps us gauge our individual endurance levels. Huge shout out to all our students here
as they tried to reach their own personal best all while being safe by knowing their own limits!
Our field day is tentatively planned for May 22nd this year. I am still in the early stages of
planning. However, I will be working hard over the next few weeks getting things planned and
ready. I just wanted to mention the tentative date at this point. If you are able, we would love
to have as many volunteers as possible! I will be sending more detailed information out in the
upcoming weeks.
Thank you everyone and have a fantastic weekend!!!

Senate Bill 288
Dear Chapelfield Families-
The following paper letter went home with students on Tuesday, February 27. Please check their book bag. It is the standard letter sent to all elementary families in GJPS. Please sign and return the form to your child's teacher to grant permission or to excuse your student from receiving instruction in child sexual abuse prevention by Monday, March 11th .
Dear Elementary Families,
This letter is to serve as notification that Senate Bill 288 has altered Ohio Revised Code 3313.60 to require that children in grades kindergarten through six receive annual developmentally appropriate instruction in child sexual abuse prevention.
School districts must notify the parents and legal guardians of the following information:
Instruction in child sexual abuse prevention is a required part of the district's curriculum;
Upon request, parents and legal guardians may examine instructional materials;
Upon written request of the student's parent or guardian, a student can be excused from taking instruction in child sexual abuse prevention.
As recommended by the Ohio Department of Education & Workforce, our district will be using the SPEAK UP lessons developed by The Foundation United. In order for your student to receive this instruction, we require written permission from you as the parent/guardian.
*Instruction will be delivered by Mrs. Jasin, our school counselor. Attached below are the slides that will be used to present the information to students as well as an overview of the program.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mrs. Miller ( millern@gjps.org) or Mrs. Jasin ( jasink@gjps.org).
Please return the letter to your child's homeroom teacher by Monday, March 11, 2024.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Miller
