As winter loosens its icy grip, it is a natural time to reflect on what we leave behind and what's coming next. The end of the quarter is always an important time to reflect on progress and celebrate achievement. Don't forget to ask you child about their goals for this quarter and what they learned from striving toward them.

As a part of this reflection, we invite you to join us at our end of quarter assembly (March 7th) to celebrate progress and achievement in the 3rd quarter and take a close look at the cold icy landscapes of the Arctic and Antarctic regions through student artwork.

Students across the school explored different skills including:

  • Foreground, middle ground, background
  • Perspective
  • Watercolor and collage techniques
  • The differences between Arctic and Antarctic regions.

Our assembly will also feature a musical performance by our 4th graders! See details below.

The final quarter of the year awaits with many exciting events including the WHE Talent Show, spring testing, and be on the lookout for permission forms for our spring volleyball program.

West Homer Annual Talent Show

We are so excited to bring back the Talent Show again this year. We are looking at doing a few things differently though, with a student led/planned talent show. Each grade level will be helping with a different aspect of the show. If your child is in 3rd or 4th grade, we are asking you to bring in items for the Dessert Auction. (If you do not have a 3rd or 4th grader but want to bring in a dessert auction item, please feel free to do so!!). Our 5th and 6th grade students will be helping with planning and other aspects. Auditions for the Talent Show will be during Recess/Lunch on Monday Feb 26th. Your student should be performance ready at that time. Please work with them at home to help them be prepared.

We had an amazing turnout for the talent show auditions! Witness the incredible talent in our school right here!

We also appreciate that Mayor Ken Castner came to say hi to us before the parade started. He always welcomes us and has been supporting us since we started to have Alaska Japanese Club.

Sharing your hearts brought us to win a prize “Best Performing Art” from Homer Winter Carnival Parade in 2024 and the place for Japan-Alaska Sister City-Town Pride FESTA hosted by Consular Office of Japan in Anchorage. At FESTA, online event, there were 24 pieces of Japan- Alaska residents submitted including my submission, Kevin Co's and a resident from Teshio, our sister city in Hokkaido in Japan. The submission from a resident in Teshio Town got 1st place. My submission regarding to the Alaksa Japanese Club was selected 3rd place and Kevin Co also received a prize.

We will keep drumming and singing to share our appreciation with our supporters. Your support will keep us drumming and singing for special events such as the Jubilee Youth Performing Art Show audition hosted by HCOA and the 40th Anniversary celebration for the relationship between Teshio in Hokkaido, Japan and City of Homer in Alaska, United Sates. We appreciate donations toward Alaska Japanese Club to purchase some Japanese Taiko drums and uniforms for our performance.

We appreciate all your support.
