RISE Students and Staff of the Week
January Theme: Be Your Best Self!
The January theme at Miller School is "Be Your Best Self" which connects well to the the start of 2025 and also to the focus for our RULER & RISE lessons in January, too!
Students will be identifying 4 or 5 words that describe their "best self" and they'll be learning how to visualize their best self when they face challenges.
This week our student advisory council members watched the video below to learn more about "best self" and we're sharing it with you so you can view it, too!
We will share more details about our theme when we return from winter break.
RULER "Reset" Stations are Popping Up in Our Hallways!
Lost and Found!
Thanks to a very special parent volunteer, our lost and found items are organized and on display in the Miller Lobby. We will encourage students to visit the display today and after break. We also welcome caregivers to visit the display, too.
All unclaimed items will be donated to charity on Friday afternoon, January 10, 2025. Thank you!
Attendance Update- December
As you may recall, Miller's school-based attendance team meets weekly to review student attendance totals and to determine family outreach and interventions as needed.
Current Attendance Data:
- The average daily attendance rate at Miller is 95.8% which is an increase of .5 from last year.
- The percentage of students who are chronically absent (10% of the school year = 7+ days) is 7.7% which is .4% less than last year (which is a good thing).
We are grateful for your support and we have seen an improvement in attendance this year thanks to you!
The graphs below show the number of students absent or tardy by tier.
The following action steps are taken by Miller's attendance team:
Weekly Monitoring:
-Students with 3 absences contacted by nurse
-Team reviews students with 5 absences and/or tardies
Monthly Monitoring:
-ALL families receive a monthly attendance update for their student(s) notifying them of totals.
Quarterly Monitoring:
-Students with 10% or more absences and/or tardies
-Email notification sent to all families
As noted in the "monthly monitoring" families receive a monthly update about their student's attendance via email on the first school day of the month. The December update is being sent today due to winter break.
As a reminder, Miller doors open for students at 7:15AM (7:10AM for breakfast) and the first “bell” sounds at 7:25 AM. The second “bell” sounds at 7:30 AM. Students are considered tardy when they arrive after 7:30 AM. We ask for your assistance in assuring that your child consistently attends school and is on time to begin the school day.
Library Lunch Volunteers: January & February
Miller School is seeking volunteers to supervise a “Library Lunch” option for students who are interested in reading in a quiet spot after they finish their lunch. We are seeking volunteers on the identified days below to get us to February Break. Volunteers are needed from 10:20am-11:35am.
Important Information for Volunteers:
We need 2 Volunteers to supervise library lunch at a time.
Volunteers will greet the students in the cafe and walk them to the multipurpose room. Please note that lbrary lunches that take place on Wednesdays will begin in the hallway outside of the cafeteria and the last scheduled group will be in the multipurpose room.
Volunteers should monitor the lunchtime and be sure students are ready to go to class at the end of their scheduled time.
All volunteers must have an active CORI on file.
Please review the schedule below and click here to sign up.
