A Message from Mrs. Britton

I hope all of our students, families, and staff are enjoying a restful and joyful spring break!

Spring break is a special time for many families to relax, reconnect, and enjoy meaningful moments together. I am especially grateful to be spending this weekend with my family and a few extra days with my college son.

This time of year includes important observances for members of our school community, including Passover, which is being observed through April 9th, and Easter, which is celebrated this Sunday, April 5th.

We also recognized World Autism Awareness Day on April 2nd and continue to celebrate the strengths, talents, and contributions of individuals with autism.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Tuesday April 7th. Enjoy what is left of the break! Wishing all who are observing a meaningful and peaceful time, and a relaxing break for all.

-Michelle Britton

We are incredibly grateful to the many professionals who volunteered their time to participate in our 5th Grade Career Showcase. Throughout the morning, our students had the opportunity to rotate through multiple sessions and hear firsthand about a wide range of careers, helping them make meaningful connections between their learning and future possibilities.

Our presenters shared valuable insights about their daily work, educational pathways, and the skills needed to succeed in their fields. From law, engineering, and healthcare to finance, construction, communications, and skilled trades, students were exposed to a diverse array of career paths that sparked curiosity and thoughtful questions.

We extend our sincere thanks to Rebecca Swanson, Tyler Spindel, Vincent Zuwiala, Jamie Weller, Lee Jankauskas, Mike DeMeo, Bob Hart, Meredith Neckermann, and Kevin Murphy for making this experience so engaging and impactful for our students. Your willingness to give your time and share your expertise truly made a difference.

Most importantly, this event highlighted the strength of our school community. Having parents share their real-world experiences made the learning especially meaningful and memorable for our students.

We are so grateful to Penncrest’s Science National Honor Society for their incredible visit to Indian Lane on March 27th!

Our students in Grades 1–5 had the opportunity to participate in hands-on, STEM-based activities that sparked curiosity, creativity, and excitement for learning. From forming testable questions to exploring how different materials interact, the engagement and enthusiasm in every classroom was amazing to see.

The members of the Science National Honor Society did a fantastic job leading these experiences and bringing science to life in such a meaningful and memorable way for our students. It is always great to see former students back working at the elementary school and inspiring the next generation.

Thank you again to Penncrest’s Science National Honor Society for making this day so special, especially right before Spring Break! We truly appreciate the time and energy you shared with our school community.

We are excited to announce that the 16th Annual Poem in Your Pocket (PIYP) will take place Friday, April 24 and Saturday, April 25 in celebration of National Poetry Month. This community event is organized each April by our teacher-librarians.

PIYP gives students and community members the opportunity to share a short poem at participating local businesses in exchange for a small treat generously provided by those businesses. The event is inclusive and flexible—students choose their own poem, practice it, and decide which businesses they would like to visit.

More details and a list of participating businesses will be available soon.

Poetry Café is an opportunity for students to practice important speaking and listening skills in a fun and positive way. Students are also exposed to an appreciation of poetry and creativity. We hope you can make it to our Poetry Café to hear the children read their favorite published poems and/or original poems in our wonderful library. It's a café, so there will be snacks, too. Guests are encouraged to bring poems to share. The kids absolutely love this part! Email Mrs. Hatton at thatton@rtmsd.org with any questions.

Dear Fifth Grade Parents,

We are excited to announce the annual 5th Grade Yearbook Cover Contest. Each year, fifth grade students are invited to submit original artwork for a chance to have their design featured on the front cover of our school yearbook. Participation in the contest is completely optional.

Please review the submission guidelines carefully:

Submission Requirements:

  1. Artwork must be original student work.
Digital submissions are not permitted, as image quality may not reproduce well in print.

  2. Designs must be completed in color.

  3. Artwork must be created on 8.5" x 11" white paper in portrait (vertical) orientation.

  4. Students must sign their first and last name in pencil on the back of the submission.

  5. All entries are due by Friday, April 10, 2026, the Friday we return from Spring Break.

Entries will be reviewed, and the selected design will be featured on this year’s yearbook cover.

We look forward to seeing the creativity and talent of our fifth grade students. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,
Ms. Devine
