Dear Families,

October has brought many opportunities for learning and connection within our school community. We are especially looking forward to several upcoming events. On Tuesday, October 15th, our 4th grade students will take part in a field trip experience that supports their curriculum. Later in the month, on Friday, October 31st, we will host our annual Fall Festival Parade, a tradition that allows students to celebrate the season. More information is shared in Mr. Comfort’s Wednesday Folder. Looking ahead, we will not have school on November 4th. November 5th will be an early dismissal day.

Throughout the school, we continue to reinforce our Westbrook Ways in all settings, focusing on being safe, respectful, and responsible. We are proud to recognize and celebrate students and classrooms that consistently demonstrate these important values. These expectations are key to maintaining a positive and supportive learning environment for all.

Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting our students’ growth and success. We look forward to a wonderful October together!

Warm Regards,

Cameron Bush

A Note from Ms. Ashworth A Note from Ms. Ashworth

Students have continued practicing our Westbrook Ways of being Safe, Respectful, and Responsible!
As a school, we are working hard to earn Royal Tickets for a chance to be our Westbrook Ways winners at our end-of-month Assembly!

We had so much fun at our first Assembly to kick off the school year! Students reviewed how to earn a Royal Ticket, what a Golden Ticket is, and how to achieve one. We also talked about our Attendance Calendar and introduced our new attendance raffle, where classes have a chance to win if they have the best attendance!

A quick reminder: Schoolwide, we are focusing on being at school every day! Of course, if a student is sick, has a family emergency, or a special event, we completely understand. Please be sure to let the school know by sending a note or email to:
wpes-attendance@upperdarbysd.org

Guidance Lessons are officially back!
So far this year, students have learned about:

  • The Counselor’s Role at School

  • Westbrook Ways & Attendance

  • Being a Good Listener

  • Conflict Resolution

Lunch Bunches are coming soon!
In the next couple of weeks, students will be invited to join Lunch Bunch with Mrs. Hahn, where they’ll enjoy lunch with a small group while practicing social skills, coping strategies, and friendship-building activities.

Gym

In the gym we have started working on physical skills through team oriented games. The team games incorporate skills learned through the team building activities we started the year with. Through these games we build on skills learned previously and incorporate new skills. In first grade, we are learning locomotor movements and working on mastering these skills in order to build on them in the future. These movements are crucial in the development of skills for young learners. Along with these skills we are incorporating fitness brain games to improve memory and recognition of our surroundings. A reminder to please send your students to school with sneakers on days they have PE.

Library

“Fifth Day Friday: Students Building, Solving, and Creating Together!”

The library is buzzing on Fifth Day Friday with creativity and teamwork as students explore our Maker Space. Some of the options include: Legos, magnet tiles, puzzles, marble runs, Gravity Maze, and Storybook Chess. There is something for everyone to build, solve, and enjoy together.

The best part? Watching students collaborate, share ideas, and cheer each other on. Our Maker Space proves that learning can be hands-on, creative, and filled with fun discoveries!

Art

In First Grade we are working on rainbows. In Second Grade we are continuing our work on

our mosaics. In Third Grade we are working on horse sketches. In Fourth Grade we are finishing

our work on our illustrated real or imaginary maps. In Fifth Grade we are continuing our work on

our stained glass letters or numbers.

Music

We have done so much incredible work just within the first month of the school year! First grade and second grade have already crushed multiple songs, which could be used for a potential showcase. This year, third grade got an early start on recorders and have learned two notes so far. We are looking forward to learning two more so that we can start playing various songs on the recorder. Fourth grade has gotten into a lot of great instrument playing, and fifth grade has been doing an excellent job on some of the hardest musical challenges yet, including 4-part canon. Both fourth and fifth grade are eager for the chorus program this season, and the Westbrook Park Voices sound incredible with their songs. I am looking forward to some exciting performances that will be taking place this year.
