What A Busy Month!

Dear Families,

Happy October! πŸ’› We have had such a wonderful month in fourth grade, and I cannot believe how much learning, growing, and community-building we have already done! Our days have been busy, our brains have been working hard, and our kiddos continue to amaze me with their effort, creativity, and willingness to learn. I am so proud of the classroom community we are building together!

Throughout the past few weeks, we have been working hard across all subject areas, strengthening our routines, challenging ourselves as learners, and learning what it means to be a supportive classroom community. We have been practicing how to share our thinking, work together, take responsibility for our learning, and celebrate the successesβ€”both big and smallβ€”that happen every day.

One of my favorite things has been watching our kiddos grow more comfortable with one another and begin to recognize all the wonderful things happening in fourth grade. We have been making time to reflect as a class, celebrate our accomplishments, and share the moments that have made our weeks special. These conversations help our students recognize that school is about so much more than completing assignments. It is also about building relationships, trying new things, learning from mistakes, and feeling proud of the community we are creating together!

πŸ“š Book Clubs Are Here!

One of the exciting things we are kicking off is book clubs! We are beginning our book club reading and will be working in small groups to discuss our books, explore characters and plot, make predictions, ask questions, and share our thinking with one another.

Book clubs are such a wonderful opportunity for students to grow as readers while learning how to listen to different perspectives, support their ideas with evidence from the text, and have meaningful conversations about what they read. I cannot wait to see the connections they make and hear all the thoughtful discussions that come from their reading!

β˜• Introducing Mug Fridays!

To make our book club discussions even more special, we are starting Mug Fridays! Each Friday, students will have the opportunity to bring a mug to use while we gather with our book club groups and chat about our books.

A few important reminders:

  • Please have your child bring in a mug by Friday, October 23, if they would like to participate.
  • Mugs will stay in the classroom and will be washed here after each use.
  • If your family does not have an extra mug, please let me know! I have extras available, and I want everyone to feel included in this classroom tradition.

I love finding little ways to make learning feel special, and I am excited to create a cozy, welcoming atmosphere where students can enjoy their books and build connections with their classmates!

🍎 Help Us with Friday Juice Donations!

I am also looking for occasional juice donations for our Friday book club gatherings! If your family is able to contribute, we would greatly appreciate a jug of juice. Some ideas include apple juice, apple cider, or fruit punch. Low-sugar options are preferred. We only need one jug for the entire class each Friday, so even an occasional donation makes a big difference!

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU DO NOT WANT YOUR CHILD TO PARTICIPATE IN THE JUICE PORTION OF MUG FRIDAYS. If you would prefer a different alternative for your child, I am more than happy to chat with you and find an option that works for your family! I want all students to feel comfortable, included, and supported. I posted a sign up on Parent Square please feel free to take a peek!

Thank you to everyone who helps make our classroom such a wonderful place to learn. Whether you are checking in with your child about their day, encouraging them to share what they are proud of, or contributing supplies for our classroom activities, your support truly matters!

πŸ’› A Little October Reminder

As we move through the school year, please continue asking your kiddos about the awesome things happening in fourth grade! Instead of only asking, "How was your day?" try asking:

  • What is something new you learned today?
  • What is something you are proud of this week?
  • What was a challenge you worked through?
  • What made you laugh or smile at school?
  • What are you looking forward to next week?

These little conversations help students recognize their own growth, build confidence, and develop a positive connection to school. We are working hard to build a classroom community that our kiddos are proud to be part ofβ€”and one that we can all feel proud of together!

Thank you for sharing your amazing children with me. October has already brought so many opportunities for learning and growth, and I am excited for all the wonderful things still to come this fall. 🍁

Wishing you and your family a happy October!
