The DBQ Project: Introductory Workshop

Description: The introductory workshop is designed to get teachers new to the DBQ pedagogy excited about the process. It is also reinvigorating for those teachers already steeped in DBQ experience. The day includes an overview of The DBQ Project 6-Step Method where teachers go through all the steps in a lively, interactive session. Special emphasis will be placed on differentiating the process to meet the needs of all learners and utilizing the gradual-release model for document analysis. The goal of the workshop is for all participants to leave enthusiastically ready to implement a DBQ in their classrooms.

The DBQ Project: Follow-Up Workshop – Advancing the Student Work

Description: This session is open to participants who have attended an introductory DBQ session, have implemented a DBQ in their classroom and are ready to discuss their experiences. Participants will spend time analyzing student work and norming student essays using our DBQ Project rubric, extending the discussion on writing the analytical essay with special emphasis on the evidence and support needed for a powerful body paragraph. Participants leave with more strategies on developing stronger

evidence-based writing and gain a great deal of knowledge on how to modify the units to meet the needs of their own students.
