Food Resources During the Holiday Season

Assistance with Food Resources for Families

We recognize that due to the recent federal government shutdown, some families in your schools will be facing increased food insecurity. The below resources are available to help:

  • FoodFinder: Search for the closest available food resources using geolocation.
  • Feeding Georgia: Find local food banks in your area.
  • Find Help Georgia: Find food pantries and other community resources.

For personalized assistance in locating local food resources for students and families, GaDOE’s Office of Whole Child Supports is here to help. Please contact us via email at wholechild@doe.k12.ga.us. Include your school name and “food resources” in the subject line, and a member of our team will reach out to you within 24 hours.

For School Meal Resources and Access for Students

School Nutrition Directors received an email from GaDOE School Nutrition Office on October 31 sharing resources and guidance regarding school meal access. Continue to promote and encourage access to school breakfast and school lunch for all students. The GaDOE School Nutrition team will continue to provide just-in-time updates to School Nutrition Directors.

SCES MOY Assessments

The SCES Middle of the Year local testing window will be open from December 1st through December 15th. Your student will take an iReady diagnostice assessment in reading and math to help us gauge their progress from the beginning of the school year and guide our plan for their instruction in the 2nd semester. Please have your student at school and on time each day if possible and prepared with a good night's sleep and breakfast.

Updates on the New School

We are so excited to move into our new school building and welcome our students back from Holiday Break on Monday, January 12th. We will have some open houses on the dates listed below on the flyer. We do ask you to attend the open houses and acclimate your student to the new building because parents will not be allowed to walk their students in on January 12th in order to limit traffic delays and minimize foot traffic.

We had a great Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Sunday, November 23rd where our Seminole Singers performed the National Anthem, the Seminole Indian Tribes of Oklahoma and Florida blessed the school and our SCMHS cheerleaders led tours throughout both sides of the school building. Check out a few photos below.

Don't forget to visit the office or your student's teacher to pay the SCS District Technology Fee. SCS provides each student access to a chromebook in each classroom. The $25 fee protects the chromebook from accidental breaks and damage that may occur throughout the year.
