WELCOME CONGRESSMAN RAJA KRISHNAMOORTHI TO ALBRIGHT MIDDLE SCHOOL

Dr. Jake Chung, the Salt Creek District 48 Superintendent of Schools, was notified by Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi that Albright Middle School will receive an $80,000.00 grant to target after-school programming for the 2022-2023 school year. The funding for this initiative will come from the Community Funding Project, which is a bipartisan congressional grant. This grant portion will benefit students at Albright Middle School who live in the 8th District of Illinois. The grant is called “The Viking After School Special @ The AMS Hub.” This grant aims to create an afterschool program for 5th – 8th-grade middle school students that will allow them to participate in a wide variety of activities once the typical school day has ended. The after-school programming will target cooperative learning, accelerated learning, incomplete learning from the Covid-19 pandemic, and social-emotional learning. Highlights of the grant include funding for STEAM activities, opportunities for students to participate in advanced book studies, a chess club, guitar lessons, math and literacy supports, and a homework center. Principal Gerrie Aulisa shared, “We are very grateful to be receiving this funding for the expansion of our after-school programming. As part of this grant, we will be transforming our library into a student community center after school to better support our Vikings and their curiosity. Our focus is to create a culture of student involvement that extends beyond our school day.” Salt Creek District 48 is thrilled that Congressman Krishnamoorthi supports this grant initiative because the students are the actual beneficiaries of this grant.

Feed My Starving Children Field Trips

We are thrilled to be able to donate time at the FMSC facility in Schaumburg again. This is a field trip we took previously and the students loved it. Due to spacing restrictions, we can only take one grade level at a time. After we volunteer in the morning, we will be having lunch at Woodfield Mall’s food court. If you do not want your child to sit near other students when they have lunch, please let us know on the permission slip you will receive closer to the dates of the trips. We need additional adult supervisors for this event, so please let me know if you can help and which date you are interested in. We will be on this trip from 8:30am - 12:15pm on the following dates:

8th Grade - Monday, May 16th

6th Grade - Tuesday, May 17th

5th Grade - Thursday, May 19th

7th Grade - Tuesday, May 24th
