Wednesday, August 19 | 7–8pm ET | 4–5pm MST

Chinwé Williams, Ph.D.

The start of a new school year brings excitement for some kids and teens and dread for others. In this webinar, we’ll explore what’s driving school anxiety and avoidance in kids, when it may signal a need for additional support, and practical strategies to help children feel more confident, connected, and ready to learn.

As always, the webinar is free, and you'll have a chance to ask questions live.

Let's Get Real!

What a great first week back! It has been fun to see the hallways filled with students, to reconnect with familiar faces, and to welcome new members to our SJHS family.

Thank you to our students, families, teachers, and staff for helping us start the year on such a positive note. The energy, enthusiasm, and school spirit on campus have reminded me what makes SJHS such a special place.

As we move into our second week of school, I want to highlight our student council’s theme for the school year: Keep It Real. It’s a simple phrase, but it can carry a lot of meaning for our school community. I want to share a few of my thoughts about the new theme and how it applies to each of us.

For our educators, Keep It Real means building genuine relationships, communicating regularly, and maintaining high expectations while supporting every student’s growth. It means being clear about our instructional practices, modeling integrity, and staying focused on what works.

For our families, Keep It Real means partnering with us, staying informed, and engaging in open communication. It means celebrating your student’s progress, asking questions, and letting us know how we can better support your child.

To our students, Keep It Real means showing up as your authentic self, taking responsibility for your learning, and being honest about what you need to succeed. It means completing your own work, doing your best, and treating others with respect.

Keep It Real connects well with our district’s recently developed Artificial Intelligence Guidelines, which emphasize responsible use, transparency, and academic integrity. As AI tools become more common in schools, we want to ensure students and staff use them in ways that support learning—not replace it. I encourage you to review the guidelines at sjusd.net/page/artificial-intelligence-guidelines and share any feedback or questions you may have. Your perspective is important as we continue shaping how AI fits into teaching and learning.

Let’s get real, let's keep it real, and let's have a real(ly) great year together!

With gratitude,

Mrs. Mo
