Monthly Update #1
DIRECTOR'S MONTHLY BRIEF
A MESSAGE FROM THE COLLEGE & CAREER ACADEMY CEO AND CTAE DIRECTOR
As we move through March, I’ve been reflecting on the many ways this month invites us to pause, learn, and recognize the diverse experiences that shape our school community.
This time of year holds significance across many spaces. We celebrate Women’s History Month and the contributions of women across industries and communities. We also recognize Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, which reminds us of the importance of access, inclusion, and ensuring every student has the opportunity to thrive. And for many in our community, Ramadan has been a meaningful time of reflection, discipline, and connection.
Moments like these are important—not just for recognition, but for understanding. They reinforce what we strive for in our Decatur Career Academy each day: creating an environment where students feel seen, supported, and prepared to step confidently into a world that values both their skills and their perspectives.
As always, I continue to be inspired by our students. Their curiosity, resilience, and willingness to engage in new challenges speak to the strength of this community. That growth is made possible through the dedication of our educators, the support of our families, and the partnerships that help bring real-world learning to life.
And in between all of that, we’re still having the important conversations—about futures, opportunities, and yes, occasionally where to find the best lunch in Decatur. I’m still gathering data on that one.
Thank you for being part of this work with us. I’m grateful for the role each of you plays in supporting our students and strengthening our community.
Warmly,
Terra Smiley
