From the Desk of Mrs. Weekes
Dear Los Pen Families,
On behalf of LPES, I want to congratulate you and your scholar(s)! Our school was recently recognized as a 2026 Educational Results Partnership (ERP) Honor Roll School for our high academic achievement and student success.
The ERP Honor Roll program, sponsored by the Campaign for Business and Education Excellence (CBEE), is part of a national effort to identify higher-performing schools and districts that are improving student outcomes and preparing students with the skills employer's value and demand. Los Pen is one of the eligible public schools in California to be recognized.
The ERP Honor Roll utilizes public school student achievement data from 2026 to identify successful schools and districts. Our school stands above others in the state because of our demonstrated ability to get students to grade-level achievement and beyond.
Schools that receive the ERP Honor Roll distinction have demonstrated consistently high levels of student academic achievement, improvement in achievement levels over time, and a reduction in achievement gaps among student populations.
Here a few important details about the ERP Honor Roll:
It is the only award given in collaboration with state and local business leaders.
It establishes a high bar of performance using data from student assessments.
It is conducted by Educational Results Partnership, a nonprofit organization that developed the nation’s largest database on student achievement.
We did not apply for this award. Our results led them to us! Because of our accomplishment, we will be featured on the ERP Honor Roll website at www.edresults.org.
We are thankful for the hard work of our students and teachers here at Los Pen. This recognition is a testament to the sustained focus on academic results and commitment to lifelong student success that our school and parent community have shown over the years.
Again, congratulations and let’s keep up the great work!
Very Respectfully,
Mrs. Weekes
A Note from Your School Counselor
Showing Gratitude
This week students learned about gratitude in their Character Strong Lessons. Feeling and expressing gratitude can make you happy in the moment—just think back to the joy you felt the last time a friend helped you out or your partner cooked a gourmet dinner—and a growing mound of evidence shows that giving thanks can also have a lasting effect on your mood. One study from the University of Pennsylvania found that people who wrote and delivered a heartfelt thank-you letter actually felt happier for a full month after, and the same researchers discovered that writing down three positive events each day for a week kept happiness levels high for up to six months.
Gratitude (formal) exercise: First, find a comfortable position to sit in. Next, Close your eyes, if this feels right. Take in a deep breath through your nose and pause, then exhale. Continue to breathe slowly and calmly. Placing your hand on your heart recite:
I am grateful for the use of my legs
I am grateful to have heat in my house
I am grateful to have clean water
I am grateful for a loving family
I am grateful for …
How do you show gratitude in your family?

Fall 2026: Healthy Tech Habits
Teaching students to develop healthy habits with technology is important for their well-being. As we launch this school year, establishing balanced technology routines at home helps set our students up for success both in and out of the classroom.
Small, intentional steps make a big difference:
Designate Screen-Free Zones: Keep mealtime and bedrooms tech-free to protect sleep and encourage family conversation.
Co-Create Family Rules: Work with your children to set consistent daily expectations around screen time and screen-free play.
Model Healthy Boundaries: Show your children how you balance device use with daily life.
Resources for Your Family:
Elementary Resource: Family Media Agreement: K-5 Printable Guide and Screen Time One-pager
Together, we can help our students build a grounded foundation for lifelong, responsible technology use.
