Volunteers Needed for 8th Grade Career Event

On Thursday, May 9th, Prairie’s 8th graders will experience “Welcome to the Real World.”

This is a one class period simulation of the real world as if the students are 25 years-old. They will have already selected their desired career, know the monthly entry salary for their chosen career, have had taxes taken out, have put money into their savings and checking accounts and are ready to make budget selections for the month based on their available income.

The volunteer parents will be assisting the students at one of the following budget selection stations: housing, transportation, utilities, insurance, clothing, entertainment, or groceries.

When all budget stations are completed, each student is to spin the “Chance” wheel to find out what unanticipated life event may occur that will impact their budget either positively or negatively. The simulation is exciting for both students and adults!

Your volunteer help is needed for this event, which will be held in the Prairie media center from 8:30-3:00 PM.

Parent volunteers may assist by helping during one shift or the entire day:

Shift # 1 – 8:30-12:00 PM

or

Shift # 2 – 1:00-3:00 PM

or

Entire day- 8:30-3:00 PM

Please fill out this form if interested and thank you for your help!

They Said it Couldn't Be Done...

…but they don’t know our Prairie families! THANK YOU to the students and parents who contributed to the new stationary bikes. WOW! We were a little nervous, but you all pulled through in a big way. Our students contributed 10% of the $5K we needed to raise in just 20 minutes on Friday. WOW!

We will be able to order the bikes for our students and we are so grateful for your help!

See Something, Say Something

Barrington 220 is now partnering with an Illinois school safety helpline aimed at providing students a place to report information that might prevent bullying, suicide, and campus violence. Safe2Help is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It allows students to confidentially share school safety issues via a mobile app, text, email, or phone call. You will notice that the "See Something, Say Something" button on our district and school website now links directly to the Safe2Help contact page. We are asking that all students, parents, staff, and community members now use this platform to report safety concerns. In the case of an emergency, call 911. Please be aware that when a Safe2Help report is made which references suicide, self-harm or school safety building staff and/or local authorities will be contacted.

Safety 220

During an emergency situation at one of our schools, it is important for our community to work together. Barrington 220 has developed this tip sheet for parents/guardians, which shares specific actions parents/guardians should take in the event of an emergency.
