‘Titan Sightings’
The first month of semester two concluded with ‘Titan Sightings' student recognition. This program recognizes grade 5-12 students who go above and beyond in demonstrating responsibility. Nominations for the "Titan Sightings" award are underway, and we look forward to announcing our next set of winners! We are consistently proud of the character our Titans are showing every day.
Winter Wrap-Up
As the snow melts, we’re hanging up the skates and skis. A huge thank you to our Danielle Nicolaescu and our Physical Education department for organizing:
The annual Rabbit Hill ski trips.
Winter skating events that kept everyone active and healthy during the cold snap.
Parent & Academic Reminders
Parent-Teacher Interviews: With one month of Semester Two already behind us, our focus remains on fostering optimal learning environments through collaboration between teachers and parents. To ensure every student is on track, we invite you to join us for Parent-Teacher Interviews March 26th beginning at 3:30. Partnership between home and school is the ‘secret ingredient’ to student success.
Stay Informed: We recommend checking PowerSchool weekly to track your child's learning progress.
Open Communication: You do not have to wait until the scheduled parent-Teacher interviews, please reach out to teachers directly anytime if you have any questions or concerns.
Celebrate the Good: "Titan Sightings" are Here!
At our school, excellence isn't just about grades—it’s about character. We are thrilled to continue our Titan Sightings program, a special initiative designed to "catch" our students in the act of being awesome.
Whether it’s a small act of kindness or a major display of leadership, we want to make sure our Titans know their positive contributions don't go unnoticed.
What is a Titan Sighting?
A Titan Sighting occurs when a student goes above and beyond in their daily school life. Teachers and staff are keeping a sharp eye out for students who demonstrate:
Exceptional Kindness: Helping a peer with a difficult task or including someone new at lunch.
Helping Hands: Assisting a teacher with classroom setup or picking up litter in the hallway.
Community Spirit: Showing resilience, sportsmanship, or school pride when it matters most.
Integrity: Doing the right thing, even when they think no one is looking.
How it Works
When a student is "sighted," they receive a Titan Sighting slip which is proudly displayed on our Titan Sightings Bulletin Board (check it out across from the Office). These slips aren't just for show—they are also entries into our monthly prize draw!
Mark Your Calendars: The next big prize draw for this month is March 26th!
Get Involved
Students, keep being the amazing individuals you are! If you’re wondering how you can earn a spot on the board, just keep showing that Titan spirit. Teachers have all the details, so feel free to ask them how you can get recognized.
Let’s fill that board with sightings and show everyone what it truly means to be a Titan!

A Sweet Success: Our Library Grows Thanks to You!
A huge thank you to everyone who participated in our Purdys Chocolate Fundraiser back in December! Whether you treated yourself to a box of chocolates or grabbed those ever-popular hedgehogs, your sweet tooth has officially turned into a literary treasure trove for our school.
Because of your incredible support, we were able to give the library a upgrade this February. We’ve added over 20 new titles and a variety of cool new resources to keep our students inspired and engaged.
🎨 Beyond the Books
In addition to the new reading material, we’ve used the funds to upgrade our library's creative and study spaces:
Creative Station: A professional set of 168 alcohol markers and bulk colored pencils for our budding artists.
Library Atmosphere: A mesmerizing 60-minute purple sand timer and a Celestial Perpetual Motion toy to make the library a more dynamic place to be.

Artistic Energy Fills the Halls
TOFIELD — If you’ve walked through the school lately, you may have noticed a surge of color and creativity. Over the last couple of weeks, our Grade 5 and 6 students have been incredibly busy creating original artwork, turning their learning space into a makeshift gallery.
The artistic buzz is centered specifically in the hallway heading towards the round wing, where students have been hard at work bringing their visions to life. From practicing new techniques to putting the finishing touches on their projects, these young artists have shown great dedication to their craft.
The vibrant displays in the hall serve as a wonderful testament to the talent and hard work of our senior elementary students. Be sure to take a look next time you pass through the wing!

Tofield School Council
🏫 Tofield School Council Update – March
Did you know that School Council is a way for parents and caregivers to have a voice in their child’s education?
School Council is made up of parents, guardians, caregivers, and school administration working together to support student success and strengthen our school community. Meetings provide an opportunity to learn, ask questions, and share parent perspectives on topics that impact students and families.
You do not need special experience or a long-term commitment to attend — whether you come once or every month, your voice is welcome and valued.
These conversations are a great example of how School Council helps ensure parent voices are heard and shared.

Pasta Pioneers: Grade 7 Engineers Reach New Heights
Grade 7 students put their engineering skills to the test today, using only spaghetti, tape, and marshmallows to build the tallest towers possible. The hands-on challenge pushed teams to experiment with structural stability and creative problem-solving under a tight deadline.

The Physics Behind the Speed
To help the students (and anyone following along) understand what makes these tiny cars fly, here is the breakdown of the engineering involved:
Aerodynamics: At the speeds these cars reach, air resistance is the biggest enemy. The goal is a "teardrop" shape that lets air flow smoothly over the body.
Mass: According to Newton's Second Law, Since the "Force" (the CO2 cartridge) is constant, a lower "Mass" results in higher "Acceleration."
Friction: This occurs where the axles meet the body and where the wheels hit the track. Proper sanding and lubrication (like graphite) are game-changers here.
What to Look for in the Coming Weeks
As I post updates, it will be fascinating to see how the students pivot from their initial brainstorms to the final product. Keep an eye out for:
The Rough Cut: Moving from a block of styrofopam, to a recognizable wedge or shell shape.
Sanding & Finishing: This is where the car goes from "blocky" to "sleek." A smooth paint job isn't just for looks; it actually reduces skin friction!
The Assembly: Aligning the axles perfectly so the car travels in a dead-straight line.
St.Patricks Day!! 🍀
If you caught a Leprechaun, which "magical gift" is for you?
Key Aspects of St. Patrick's Day
- Date: Always held on March 17th, the traditional death date of Saint Patrick.
- Significance: Originally a religious feast day to honor St. Patrick (5th-century missionary), it has evolved into a global celebration of Irish culture.
- Traditions & Celebrations:
- Wearing Green: The color is heavily associated with the day, though historically it was blue.
- Parades: Major celebrations take place worldwide, with notable parades in Dublin, New York, and elsewhere.
- Food: Common foods include Irish soda bread, lamb stew, and, in North America, corned beef and cabbage.
- Symbols: The shamrock, used by Saint Patrick to explain the Holy Trinity, is a popular symbol.
- History: Born in Roman Britain, Patrick was kidnapped and enslaved in Ireland as a teenager before escaping, later returning as a missionary to convert the Irish to Christianity.
- Global Impact: What began as a religious holiday in Ireland has become a celebration of Irish diaspora and culture worldwide, featuring landmarks lit in green.
Basketball!
Junior High Boys
Tofield Hosts Junior High Boys Regional Championships
On February 27 and 28, Tofield School was proud to host the Junior High Boys Basketball Regional Championships. The tournament featured the top eight teams from across our School Division and the Junior High Athletic Association.
Our Tofield Boys earned the right to host the tournament after an incredible regular season, finishing first in their league with a perfect, undefeated record. The team carried that momentum into the weekend, ultimately winning the Consolation final with impressive victories over Killam and Daysland. Congratulations to the boys on a dominant season!
A Community Effort
Hosting an event of this scale requires a dedicated team behind the scenes. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to:
The Parents of the Junior High Boys Team: For supplying an abundance of food for the coaches' room. Your generosity kept the tournament staff fueled and ready!
The Forrest Family: For heading up the concession stand. All proceeds from the weekend are going toward the Grad Class of 2026.
Our Coaches: Sincere thanks to Courtney Borton, John Blades, and Brad Regehr. Your time, effort, and leadership have been instrumental in our athletes' success this year.
It was an exhilarating weekend of basketball and a true showcase of Tofield spirit. Well done, Titans!
Junior Girls Team
Junior High Girls Shine at Regionals
Our Junior High Girls Basketball team delivered a powerhouse performance at the Regional Championships hosted by New Norway School. The girls showed incredible resilience on the court, starting their Saturday with a hard-fought victory over Killam to secure a spot in the Consolation final that afternoon.
Coaches and Volunteers
Thank You: Winter Sports Season Success
We extend our sincere gratitude to all coaches and volunteers for their dedicated service to our Winter Athletic Programs: Basketball Season, Skiing, Skating, & Snowshoeing. Your tireless commitment made this season truly successful.
To Our Coaches: Thank you for the countless hours spent developing our student-athletes. You were instrumental in teaching technical skills, promoting strong teamwork, and building lasting character and resilience.
To Our Volunteers: You are the essential backbone of our teams. Your work in coordinating events, managing logistics, and providing unwavering support ensured a smooth and positive experience for everyone involved.
The positive impact you have had on our students goes far beyond the scoreboards. Thank you for investing your time and passion in the lives of our community's youth.
Skiing & Snowbaording
If you’re heading to the mountain, what’s your vibe?
Which mountain terrain is your absolute favorite?
The "Science" of the Stride Snow Shoeing Highschool
If you felt a bit like a penguin or a moose, it’s because snowshoeing forces a wider stance than normal walking. You probably experienced some of the "joys" of the sport:
The "Post-Hole" Fear: That moment you step off the packed trail and realize just how deep the snow actually is.
The Dead Bug: Falling over in deep snow and realizing that getting back up with giant paddles attached to your feet requires a core workout you didn't sign up for.
The Tail-Click: Constantly clicking the backs of your shoes together until you finally adjusted your gait.
Chills, Thrills, and Skills: Grade 5 & 6 Take to the Ice
Over the last two weeks, the local rink has been echoing with the sounds of scraping blades and cheering classmates as the Grade 5 and 6 students completed their annual rink time.
From seasoned hockey players showing off their crossovers to brave beginners taking their very first tentative glides, the ice was a hub of activity and perseverance. The program, which will consist of four sessions aimed to promote physical literacy while giving students a chance to bond outside the classroom.
The Grade 5 and 6 classes would like to extend a huge thank you to the parent volunteers and staff who helped tie countless laces and kept everyone safe on the ice.
