Our school character word for the month of April is patience, so we read The Very Impatient Caterpillar by Ross Burach in the library this week. In K-2nd grade Tiny Turtle helped us with the story, and the 3rd and 4th graders watched Ryan and Craig read the story (see link below). We discussed things we have to use patience for all throughout the day at school, and the students share so many great things.

We then played a library version of musical chairs with books, and many of the students looked at books they had never seen before (which was the main purpose of the activity). Students then had the opportunity to check out the books they looked at during the game. Unfortunately, our library system had a server malfunction on Thursday afternoon, so all of the Thursday classes were not able to check out books. They will get the books they wanted on Tuesday.

Week of March 24, 2026 Week of March 24, 2026

K-3rd Grade: We read Grumpy Monday Spring Fever by , and Tiny Turtle helped us with fun sound effects. Our library recently got several new books in the Grumpy Monkey series, along with three new Grumpy Monkey graphic novels. They all got checked out, so I guess the students liked the book! :) After reading the book, students created their own "flower bonnet" similar to Grumpy Monkeys!

4th Grade: We read Yoda: The Story of a Cat and His Kittens by Beth Stern. I encouraged students to continue working on their Passport to Reading booklets. If they have all five of the entries completed by Friday, May 1st they will be able to attend the Passport to Reading Donut Party in the library in May! It was so much fun last year! :)

Week of March 9, 2026 Week of March 9, 2026

Kindergarten: We watched a video about St. Patrick's Day. Then, we read two books about St. Patricks Day, The Night Before St Patrick's Day by Natasha Wing and How to Catch a Leprechaun by Adam Wallace. We played a fun game where students passed a four-leaf clover around the circle using a clothespin, and they shared one thing they felt lucky about. It was so cute, and often quite sweet, to hear what they were lucky to have in their life! :)

1st and 2nd Grade: Students practiced in the PAC for their music program.

3rd Grade: I introduced students to a new set of graphic novels our library has, the Jake Maddox Graphic Novel set. Instead of reading the book to the students, I had them choose a partner (if they wanted) and read one of the books together for 10 minutes. Seeing all the students reading around the library was awesome!!

4th Grade: We read The Oldest Student: How Mary Walker Learned to Read by Rita Lorraine Hubbard. It was such an interesting and inspiring story! Mary Walker learned to read at the age of 116, and lived until the age of 121. We discussed that maybe one reason Mary Walker lived so long was that she never stopped learning new things! After reading the book, students worked on their keyboarding skills.

And, the Show Me Award Book Winners for Our School are... And, the Show Me Award Book Winners for Our School are...

Our kindergarten through 3rd grade students have all voted for their favorite Show Me Award Nominee Book, and the results are in! The Mighty McKraken by Izzy B came in first, receiving 40% of the votes! Second place went to Basketball Dreams by Chris Paul, with 12% of the vote. The Kitten Story by Emily Jenkins came in third place with 11% of the votes! It was so much fun reading these ten award nominee books this school year, and exciting to see which ones were our students' favorite!

I sent our students votes to the state school librarian's association, and we should be receiving the state results in the next couple of weeks!
