A Note from the Principal

Forest Hills Families,

Registration is under way and we are close to full for the 2025-2026 school year! If you have not yet registered your child, please do so now! If you have any problems, please call our office and one of our amazing secretaries will assist you. We have several fun events planned for April and May so be sure to scroll down and check out all we have planned!

ACAP testing will take place during the month of April. It is imperative that students arrive to school on time, eat a healthy breakfast, and get a good night's sleep. It is also important for students to feel encouraged and supported, so be sure to offer up words of affirmation as much as possible. Our PTO has a special treat planned to encourage each student participating in ACAP testing! As a culmination to testing, we plan to have a Faculty v. 5th Graders Basketball Game on May 1st! All students will get to attend this fun event! We even have some special entertainment planned for halftime!

Morning Drop Off / Safety Reminder:

We are experiencing increased amounts of students arriving late and also students being dropped off in our parking lot. As we enter the last 8 weeks of school, I want to stress the importance of having your student to school on time. Instruction begins promptly each morning at 7:30 am. Also, please remember students should NOT be dropped off in our parking lot. This is extremely dangerous and puts your child at risk of being hit by a car. If you want to walk your child to a crosswalk during drop off, you must park your car in a parking spot and walk with them to the crosswalk. Thank you for helping ensure the safety of our students.

If I can ever be of assistance to you, please call, email, or stop by! GO FALCONS!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Fowler, Principal

Kindergarten

April will be another fun month for Kindergarten! We will continue learning about plants in our Reading Unit Study and we will be working with our STEM teachers to grow flowers too. Our next Reading Unit will be all about Animal Homes, which will be so interesting for students. We are continuing to learn more letters and sounds, decoding words to read, spell words and write sentences using sounds we have learned. Parents can help by reviewing all letters and sounds at home. Also now is a great time to encourage your child to read more to you at home using the little OCR books or library books. In math we will be learning the teen numbers, 11-19. Students will be able to recognize the numbers, write the numbers and count the amounts in various ways. Students will also be working on counting to 100 by 1s & 10s. It will be a great Spring!

1st Grade

Welcome back, students! We are so excited to begin the last nine weeks of school and can't wait to see where our learning takes us. In reading, students are learning about plant and animal life cycles. Students will plant their very own seed and record the changes they observe over the next few weeks. In math, students are beginning to work with two-digit numbers. We are looking forward to ending our school year strong.

2nd Grade

Second grade is beginning a new reading unit on Citizenship. We are excited to learn all about our country and the many ways we can be a good citizen.

In math, we are exploring shapes and learning all about arrays which will become a staple in 3rd grade for multiplication. We are looking forward to celebrating all the students have learned this month on our ACAP assessment. Please have your child at school on time, and well rested.

We will be visiting Bear Creek in May. Please return all field trip forms ASAP! Let's finish STRONG!

3rd Grade

Third graders will be showing what they know in April!!!

In Math, students will be learning to Classify Quadrilaterals. We will also discuss Area and Perimeter before ACAP testing. Don’t forget to keep practicing those multiplication facts! The Fluency Bee will start in your child’s homeroom on April 14th!

We are looking forward to starting Unit 5, Government at Work. We will not start this new reading unit until after ACAP testing. Please remember to have your child read their fluency passage three times a week.

Most of the month of April is focused on ACAP review in both reading and math. Some great things you can do at home to prepare you child are, make sure they get a good night’s sleep before each test, make sure they eat a healthy breakfast, and most of all make sure they don’t stress about taking the test. They are all prepared and ready to show what they have learned! Thank you for your support at home.

4th Grade

Can we get a drum roll for……..ACAP!!! We are hands-on this month in preparation for ACAP. Every day, we will be reviewing, reteaching, and practicing all reading skills. ELA ACAP will take place on April 8th and 9th.

In Math, we have been hard at work on the Geometry and Measurement units. These are the last units before taking the Math ACAP at the end of the month on April 22nd. Students have had daily reviews for the past few months in preparation.

Parents and Guardians, it's time to cheer your child on! They have worked so hard…now it is time to show Alabama their talents! We got this. HARD WORK PAYS OFF!!

5th Grade

ELA ACAP is almost here, and we are working hard to prepare! This month we are working on ACAP Review, as well as diving into a new Open Court Unit "Making A Nation." This unit will strengthen our reading skills while tying in stories about our nation's past. We will continue to determine or clarify the meaning of unknown or multiple-meaning words through the use of context clues while strengthening our fluency and writing skills. In math, we are finishing up our last 4 lessons working on order of operations and coordinate grids. We are doing a lot of review from standards learned throughout the year to help students prepare for ACAP. Attendance every day is crucial! In science, we are diving deep into matter and interactions this month! We will be identifying matter by its properties such as color, size, and texture. We will make mixtures and solutions, then see if we can separate those mixtures and solutions back into their original form. We will also discover if the total weight of matter can change even when it goes through phase changes (heated, cooled, dissolved, mixed, etc.) We are looking forward to a great last quarter of fifth grade!
