LifeHabits: How to Prep Mentally and Physically for Testing Day
The months of April and May are packed with testing dates, including STAAR, AP, EOC and final exams. To help your student feel confident and prepared, here are a few simple habits that can make a big difference on test day.
Rest and Eat Well
If we are self-aware, we know that our body needs both rest and nutrition to fuel us well. Going to bed at a reasonable hour ensures your student is well-rested and ready to focus. And, fueling the brain is just as important as fueling the body. A balanced breakfast with protein, healthy fats, and complex carbs can help students stay alert and energized throughout the test.Prepare the Night Before
Encourage students to be self-managed and pack their backpack, pick out clothes, and set an alarm ahead of time. A smooth morning routine helps reduce stress and allows them to arrive at school on time and ready to go.Keep It in Perspective
While tests can feel overwhelming, maintaining a global perspective helps students remember that exams are just one snapshot of their learning journey. True success is reflected in their growth, effort, and resilience, not just a single score. A calm, confident mindset can go a long way on testing day.
