The Badger Brief
Prothro's Perspective
January has certainly reminded us how unpredictable winter weather can be, and I am incredibly thankful for the way our Beebe School District team has responded. I want to specifically recognize our maintenance and custodial teams for the long hours spent clearing snow and ice and working to make our campuses safe and ready for students. I am also grateful for our bus drivers and transportation department, who navigated challenging road conditions and newly added snow routes to get our students to and from school safely. I appreciate our families and community for their patience and understanding as we worked through these weather-related decisions together.
I am also thankful for our district’s choice to operate on an alternative calendar that is calculated by minutes, which allows us to build in four weather days. The Arkansas Department of Education allows this type of calendar, and our district intentionally chose this model to provide flexibility while protecting instructional time. At the same time, we are moving through different stages of interim assessments across campuses. These assessments give our teachers and parents a clear picture of where students are at this point in the year and help guide next steps. We will continue to use class time, Response to Intervention, tutoring, and other supports to help students continue to grow. I also encourage parents to work with your students at home whenever possible. I truly love being a Badger and am thankful to serve the Beebe School District.
Human Resources
Human Resources, in collaboration with the Business Office, has been working diligently to bring the new Recruiting and Hiring platform through Frontline Education fully online. Training videos will be available soon for administrators, coordinators, and supervisors to support effective use of the system. The next phase of the rollout will be the Records component, which will include electronic forms and an online onboarding process.
Special Programs
Our School Nursing Department brings a combined 113 years of nursing experience across a wide range of specialties, including pediatrics, dermatology, cardiology, medical-surgical care, family practice, long-term care, labor and delivery, case management, and critical care. Seven dedicated nurses serve our district: Brittany Stroud (Early Childhood), Anna Evans (Elementary), Stacy Driskill (Middle School), Lindsay Farmer (Junior High), Heather Sterling (High School), Kendra Rainey (High School), and Brandi Crowell (Nursing Supervisor).
Our nurses support students and families through disease and illness education, chronic condition management, emergency planning and preparedness, staff training, advocacy, connection to community health resources, required health screenings, and the development of individualized healthcare plans. They also serve as trusted confidants during critical and vulnerable moments, often being the first to identify concerns and intervene. Through this work, our nurses ensure students are safe, supported, and ready to learn.
Our nursing team developed and implemented a district-wide cardiac emergency response plan and is leading efforts for our district to earn national certification as Heart Safe Schools through Project ADAM.
In addition, our nursing team launched Bright Eyes for Badgers, an initiative that provides vision care and glasses to students whose families may not qualify for assistance programs, exceed coverage limits, or face financial barriers. We believe that better vision leads to brighter futures. Better Sight, Brighter Badgers!
Curriculum and Instruction
The Curriculum Department began the 2026 year with a full and busy schedule! Our kindergarten and first-grade students successfully completed the ATLAS Interim Assessment for Literacy and Math. They worked extremely hard and we are proud of all of the students! Our other buildings will be testing throughout the month of February for their interim assessments as well. The curriculum team has also enjoyed being a part of and seeing all the wonderful things going on within the district.
We also hosted a Parent Family Night for K-3 families who qualified for the Literacy Tutoring Grant. This event provided a valuable opportunity for families to communicate and collaborate with district teachers who are delivering tutoring services throughout the school year.
We are already working on professional development days for the summer for teachers and staff throughout the district on curriculum, CPR. Stop the Bleed, and other certifications for staff members.

Maintenance
Our Maintenance Department continues to build capacity with the addition of Mr. Shawn Hager, who joins us as an HVAC Technician. Mr. Hager brings over 25 years of experience in heating and cooling systems and will play a critical role in maintaining comfort and efficiency across all campuses. He will be working alongside Mr. Barry Baldridge, who will retire at the end of February after years of dedicated service. We appreciate Mr. Baldridge’s commitment to Beebe School District and wish him the very best in retirement.
Safety and Security
This month, Mr. Prothro and Mr. Fletcher met with D2 Security Solutions to begin discussions regarding Commissioned School Security Officer (CSSO) training for select district staff. This training pathway will be reviewed in greater detail this summer as we explore options to enhance campus safety, increase preparedness, and continue our commitment to maintaining a secure learning environment for all students and staff.
