April Highlights
Kindergarten Multicultural Fair
Our kindergarteners traveled the world without leaving the classroom at out Multicultural Fair! Through music, food, art and stories, students explored and celebrated the beautiful diversity of cultures that make our community so special. What a joyful reminder that learning about others helps us grow together.
Special Olympics
Special Olympics is so much more than a sporting event — it is a chance for every student to shine, build confidence, and feel the excitement of giving their personal best. We are incredibly proud of all the students who represented our school.
Attendance Matters
Every day in school matters- consistent attendance builds strong habits, deeper learning and meaningful connections. When students show up, they set themselves up for success both in and out of the classroom.
Volunteers of the Year
Congratulations to our Volunteers of the year: Laura David, Shelley Jackson, and Gillian Mason. Our volunteers make a difference every day-thank you for the time, care and support you bring to our school!
March Madness: The Ultimate Book Face-Off was a slam dunk for literacy! 📚🏀
Students cheered on their favorite stories all the way to the championship, where Miss Nelson Is Missing! by Harry Allard took the win over Amelia Bedelia by Peggy Parish. This exciting bracket brought out a love of reading and showed just how powerful literacy can be!
Principal of the Year Finalist- Mr. Kilpatrick
Mr. Kilpatrick started his career in NHCS as a math teacher at Hoggard High School in 1999. He then served as a math teacher at Murray Middle School, as assistant principal at Williston Middle School and Pine Valley Elementary, and as the director of College Road Early Childhood Center. He was the principal of Bellamy Elementary School for 9 years, and the school was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School in 2023. Mr. Kilpatrick has been a Masonboro Patriot for almost 2 years. He is always ready to put a playlist together, which many of our families get to enjoy each morning. Masonboro is very fortunate to have a great leader!
Mr. Kilpatrick also has a B.S. in Business Management as well as a math and social studies certification from UNCW. In 2006, he was admitted to the NC Principals Fellows program and completed his Masters in School Administration in 2008.
Educator of the Year Finalist- Mrs. Avery
Robyn Avery, Music Teacher at Masonboro Elementary School with 19 years of teaching experience.
Mrs. Avery’s leadership as School Improvement Chairperson, commitment to integrating core instruction into music, coordination of our social media presence, and strong collaboration with our PTA and specials team have made a lasting impact on our school community. She consistently puts students first and leads with positivity, reminding everyone, “The show must go on!". Way to SOAR, Mrs. Avery!
