A Note from Mrs. Mathe
As we enter this season of thanksgiving, I want to take a moment to share just how grateful we are for each of your beautiful children. They bring joy, laughter, curiosity, and energy into our halls every single day. Their smiles, their growth, and their unique personalities make Hines the special place it is—and we are truly honored to be part of their journey.
I am equally grateful for, our incredible families. Your support, encouragement, partnership, and kind words mean more than you know. Your generosity and willingness to work hand in hand with us make our campus truly one of a kind. We could not do this work without you, and we are thankful for the trust you place in us each day.
During this season of gratitude, I’d like to share a simple but meaningful way to show appreciation to our staff: sending a TAE. These notes brighten our staff’s day in a powerful way. We not only celebrate those who receive a TAE during our staff meetings, but their names also go into a drawing for a fun prize as an extra surprise. If you feel moved to recognize a staff member who has made a difference for your child or family, please consider sending a TAE—it truly means the world to them.
Wishing you and your family a joyful and restful Thanksgiving season.
Recognize a Staff Member with a TAE!
Do you want to recognize one of our amazing Hines staff members for a job well done? Did you know you can submit a TAE — Teacher Achieving Excellence — to celebrate their hard work and dedication?
Follow these quick steps to submit a TAE:
Step 1: Go to your SSO
Step 2: Click on Home Access Center (HAC)
Step 3: Select the District Applications tab
Step 4: Click on the Teachers Achieving Excellence tab
Step 5: Choose the staff member’s name and write your recognition
Step 6: Submit!
Once submitted, the staff member’s supervisors are notified of their job well done, and these recognitions are used to celebrate our team during Hines Shines each week.
Help us spread joy and show appreciation by sending some love to our well-deserving staff members today!
GT Testing Information
Referral requests for the Gifted and Talented (GT) program are now being accepted from October 1–December 19, 2024. Although GT testing will not take place until late January, families interested in referring their child should contact their child’s teacher to request a nomination packet.
Please note: 2nd grade students do not need a parent referral. All 2nd graders will take the CogAT test this October. These scores are used as the first step in the GT evaluation process. Families will be notified after CogAT results are received if their child qualifies for the second phase of GT testing in January.

In this section, we will highlight students who have gone above and beyond—whether it’s reaching a personal goal, helping others, or making a difference in the community. We can’t wait to share these inspiring stories and honor the incredible ways our students shine!

Grade Level Newsletters
Our specials team is excited to host a food drive at Hines this school year in support of the Montgomery County Food Bank, one of Dr. Hines’ favorite local charities. From December 1–13, students may bring non-perishable food items and place them in their grade-level buckets in the cafeteria. The grade level that collects the most items will earn an extra active start on the morning of December 19! Thank you for supporting our community and helping teach our Huskies the spirit of generosity!
