What's Happening??!!
~ Hawley School Newsletter: October 25, 2026 ~
~From the Desk of Mr. Moretti~
Dear Hawley Parents/Guardians, Teachers, and Staff,
October was Busy and Festive. Teaching and Learning is cranking along with students working very hard. We had the PTA Spooktacular, Picture Day, and The Book Fair.
Buckle up, stay seated, and keep your hands and feet in the car at all times, as you read on to find out What's Happening at Hawley .....
~Book Fair~
Art, Library, Music, PE, Spanish
This past week was the Book Fair! Students visited to make Wish Lists and then returned to purchase books for their homes and classrooms. It is always an exciting time that does not happen without the help of Parents and the PTA.
Marissa Portera chaired the event with numerous Volunteers giving of their time (only some of which are pictured below). Also a Thank You to Mr. Sortino who gives up his gym for the week.
~ Kids LOVED it ~
~ The "i" in KIND ~
At Hawley, we are always on the look out for Kindness. We want everyone to Be the "i" in KIND!
When a student or staff member is caught doing something that goes above and beyond being Kind, especially, when not asked to, we recognize them!!
The below students were caught sitting with someone when they were alone, sharing a Frisbee in PE, helping a friend, reorganizing a class library, sharing prize tickets, and helping to organize classroom materials.
~ Birthday Book Club ~
Each month, Mrs. Carlson honors students that signed up for Birthday Book Club by letting them choose a book to donate to their class library. It is during their birthday month and their name goes in the cover honoring the dedication.
If your child's birthday is still to come, you can still sign up. Reach out to Mrs. Carlson (carlsone@newtown.k12.ct.us)
Here are the October Birthdays.
~ Run Club ~
The Hawley after school Run Club completed their Fall Session by participating in the Catherine Hubbard 5K. Thank you to Ms. Contento & Mrs. Palilla for organizing this beneficial club.
Great Job Runners!
~Lost & Found~
This time of year it is cold in the morning and warm in the afternoon. This causes students to leave fleeces, jackets and sweatshirts all over the place. They find their way to the Lost & Found.
If you are missing something, take a look and if you see something familiar in the picture, tell your child to head on down to L&F to get it ;0)
~Cardboard Challenge~
Each Year, Mrs. Carlson organizes the Cardboard Challenge. This is an optional opportunity for 4th Graders to be creative and make something of their design out of cardboard.
These are this year's creations; Great Job!
~Important Reminders~
PTA Directory
Parent often ask Teachers for the names, addresses and phone numbers of classmates for play dates and parties. Confidentiality prevents us from sharing this information. For that reason, the PTA puts out a Directory which is free to PTA Members. If you have not yet joined the PTA, there is still a little time before the Directory is printed (click HERE). You also need to make sure in PowerSchool that you have not opted out of PTA information.
Text Chains / email Lists
Following up on Confidentiality, Room Parents get parents' email and phone number and create email distribution lists and text chains. This is for Classroom and PTA Information ONLY. These should be used only by the Room Parent. We ask that people do not use these to send out their own information. We Thank You for your support of this Courtesy of Communication.
Driving in the Parking Lot
Our school parking lot is narrow and very busy with traffic. We ask that everyone follows our Safety Guidelines while driving in the parking lot. This includes but is not listed to...
- No holding and talking on a Cell Phone while driving
- Children remain buckled in a seat while the car is moving
- Stopping at Stop Signs
- Obeying the Speed Limit posted upon entrance
The safety of the Hawley School Community is our Top Priority. We Thank You for your attention to these guidelines.

Out of the Mouths of Babes.....
Mr. M was walking down the hallway.
" Do you know what today is? " Mr M asked a student passing him
" Picture Day " the boy mumbled
" You remembered " Mr. M replied
" Only because my mom made me take a bath and comb my hair. "
