Come to the Book Fair - March 10 through 20
Principal's Message
Hello Lincoln Community,
Thank You to Our Classified Staff: This week we celebrated our classified staff with treats, breakfast, donuts, coffee, and more. Here at Lincoln we are so grateful for our amazing classified staff and all they do to make a positive difference for our students, our teachers, and our community. We have assistants, office staff, custodians, and more who help students with their learning, support behavior, supervise recess and arrival/dismissal, lend their expertise to helping our students thrive, and keep our school operating smoothly. This week we enjoyed having the chance to celebrate them!
Spring Conferences are Just Over a Week Away: In a week-and-a-half we'll be meeting with parents for our spring student-led conferences. These are great opportunities to celebrate individual student learning progress, learn about strengths and growth areas, and partner together in-person with parents, students, and teachers. The conference dates are March 19 and 20.
Read Across America Week and Now the Book Fair: This week, we joined schools across the nation in celebrating Read Across America week. Each day of the week had a specific theme and it provided a fun way for our Lincoln community to celebrate reading together. Starting on Monday we'll host the Spring Book Fair in the Library. Please come and select books to read during library time or when coming for conferences. The Fair runs through March 20.
Questions: As always, please feel free to send your questions or feedback to us at teresa.alfaro@woodburnsd.org or pmcdougal@woodburnsd.org.
Go Dolphins!
Sincerely,
Teresa Alfaro - Principal

Student Safety is our Highest Priority
Pedestrian Safety Tips When Coming To School and Going Home
Multiple times each year we instruct and remind our students about safety on buses and during the arrival and dismissal process. We also stress the importance of being careful and safe when traveling to and from school and any time when we're out in the community. Here are some of the important points to keep in mind.
- Walking: Using identified walking paths, obeying all traffic laws/signals, being aware of surroundings, wearing clothes that make you easily seen by cars, share your walking path with your parents so they know, keep eyes and ears open.
- Biking: Making sure bike is correctly functioning as intended (brakes, reflectors, etc.), make sure you have proper safety gear, obey all traffic laws/signals, be aware of your surroundings, wear clothes that make you easily visible, keep eyes and ears open, use lighting at night, share your path with your parents so they know.
- Rail Safety: Only cross at designated areas, keep eyes and ears open, be aware of your surroundings, follow all traffic laws/signals.
When Picking Up Your Student(s)
Please follow our designated traffic patterns. Here are some guidelines:
- Unless you're in an actual parking spot, be sure to stay in your vehicle.
- Similar to at an airport, we can't have unattended vehicles in the driving lanes (this includes the French Prairie MS parking lot too).
- Follow staff directions.
- Pull up to the forward-most pick up spot.
- Take care to always be vigilant when pulling out after picking up your student.

Every Day Matters - Focus on Attendance
This year we are continuing to pay close attention to ensuring that children are present at school regularly, because Every Day Matters.
Setting High Goals: We're focusing on attendance because last year 58% of our students were regular attenders (attended more than 90% of the days) and 42% were chronically absent (attended less than 90% of the days). The 58% was an improvement from the previous year when we had 51% of our students who were regular attenders. For the current school year our school leadership has set the goal to improve from 58% up to 70%. WE CAN DO IT!
So Important: There's a very strong correlation between good attendance and student success in school. Please see the visual below for more information.
