Dear Big Timber Badgers, Dear Big Timber Badgers,

It has been a busy start to the school year! Students are getting back into the swing of things at school and learning new skills and making new friends! The first quarter is coming to an end on October 8th! Look for report cards to come out to parents in the PowerSchool Parent Portal on October 26th. In the meantime, if you have questions regarding your child’s academic progress please do not hesitate to reach out to their classroom teacher!

Early Pick up Reminder Early Pick up Reminder

If you plan to pick up your student early from school, please plan ahead and call our main office at 224-484-5500 or email the school office at attendance.btes@d300.org in advance whenever possible.

Providing advance notice allows our staff time to communicate with the classroom and have your student prepared for dismissal. Thank you for helping us make early pick-ups as smooth and efficient as possible!

Patriot Day Patriot Day

Big Timber took time to remember Patriot Day! Our staff and students honored some local heroes in our fire department, police department and veterans during our Stars, Stripes and Heroes Walk-a-Thon! We had students help sing the Star Spangled Banner and hand out flags to the honorees. A huge thank you to the PTO for helping us organize the event!

During “Start with Hello Week” this year, our students were encouraged to make new friends and include others! At Big Timber, classrooms participated in activities designed to help students make new friends and build new friendships with one another. Students learned how to say Hello to one another in different languages as well. The goal was to spread kindness and positivity throughout the school and build students ' self-confidence. Teachers will continue to build positive relationships with and among their students during their daily morning meeting time.

Fitness Challenge 💪

During PE, Big Timber students are getting active with our new Fitness Challenges! Students in grades K–2 will work on the 30-Second Plank Challenge, while students in grades 3–5 will take on the 10-Push-Up Challenge.

Families, we need your help! Students will bring home a Fitness Challenge punch card. Each time your child completes the exercise, an adult should watch and initial one circle on the card. Once all 10 circles are completed and initialed, please have your child return the card to their PE teacher to earn a colored bead for their token necklace!

Attendance Attendance

Our Big Timber School Improvement Goal for attendance is that by the end of the 2026-2027 school year, Big Timber Elementary School will reduce chronic absenteeism by 2%. Big Timber will reduce chronic absenteeism by .5% each year between 2023-2027. That would mean that for our current school year, we would like 84.4% of consistently present students. Currently we are at 87.9% for the current school year. Let’s keep up the great work!

As we move into the fall months and the weather begins to change, we want to remind families about the importance of regular and on-time attendance. We understand that colder, rainy, and less predictable weather can sometimes make mornings a little more challenging, but every school day is an important opportunity for your child to learn, grow, and connect with their classmates and teachers.

How We Can Work Together:

  • Set regular routines: Keep consistent bedtimes and morning habits to ensure smoother school days.

  • Schedule appointments thoughtfully: Whenever possible, try to book non-urgent doctor visits or family trips outside of school hours or during breaks.

  • Reach out early: If your child is struggling with school anxiety, illness, or anything else impacting their attendance, please let us know. We are here to partner with you and provide support.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership in helping our students show up, learn, and thrive every day. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or need support.

Parents are responsible for reporting a student’s absence to the Attendance Office via phone by calling 224-484-5520 or emailing our attendance line at attendance.btes@d300.org before 8:00 AM the date of the absence. A student will be considered unexcused if a phone call or email explaining the absence is not made to the attendance office. When calling in or emailing an absence, please provide your student’s name, grade, ID number, and reason for the absence. Recorded messages may be left on the Attendance Office voice mail between 3:30 PM and 7:00 AM preceding the absence
