A Message from SHS Administration
Dear SHS students and families,
Musetta Deneen, the 9th-grade Principal, will be on maternity leave beginning January 25th, 2025, and expected to extend through April 29th, 2025. During that time, she will be unavailable; however, James Rafko will be your contact person should you have any questions or concerns.
We appreciate your understanding and look forward to her return in April.
- Failing grade letters will be emailed out to students and families on Thursday, January 23. These letters will be issued if a student currently has a 0-59% in one or more classes. As a reminder, Saline High School has a variety of Tutoring/Support options. Click Here to view our tutoring options.
- Late Arrivals/Early Dismissals- please help us remind students that they need to sign in/sign out at our attendance desk (Auditorium Entrance/Door 5) anytime they arrive at school after 7:50 AM or need to leave school mid-day.
- We would like to remind our families and students that Saline High School operates under a closed campus lunch policy. Students are required to remain on-site during their lunch period. They are welcome to enjoy their break in the Cafeteria/Commons area or other designated spaces within the school.
Attendance Matters
Attendance Risk Notification- Once a student reaches our attendance policy limit of 7 absences in one or more classes (excused “A” and unexcused “U” absences combined), PowerSchool will generate an attendance risk notification to inform students/families that the attendance policy has been reached/exceeded. Medically Excused Absences (M)- Absences due to medical appointments or reasons, when accompanied by a doctor's note, will be adjusted in PowerSchool to (M) for medically excused once a doctor’s note has been submitted. Parents/Guardian may upload a copy using the Medical Note Submission Form or students may drop off a hard copy of the note to the Attendance Desk. If there is specific information that our administrative, teaching, special education, counseling or nursing staff need to be aware of, please communicate important information directly to them. Make Up Classwork: Students are awarded the same number of days they were absent to make up missed assignments, providing the absence(s) are excused.

We alternate locations yearly and this year's fair will be held at Ann Arbor Pioneer High School on April 2, 2025 from 6:00-7:30. We are expecting 75+ colleges to attend. This is a great event for sophomores and juniors to enhance their college exploration experience.
Hornet Time (Advisory)
When there are presentations, surveys, or materials shown during Hornet Time, we will provide them the week before when possible.
Students will attend Hornet Time on Wednesday each week.
Students in an SWWC class during 2nd hour will have Advisory with their 2nd hour teacher. They will not have a "Hornet Time" listed on their schedule.
The "Be Good People" curriculum is referenced often throughout the year. Information on this curriculum can be found here: Life Skills - 9-12 Core Edition (google.com)
January 29, 2025:

12th Grade: Developing Your Values
All classes will also view Hornet Nation and SHS Today student news shows each week as they are published.
*NOTE: We will be sending out the SEAB survey again this week to encourage higher participation from our HS students. Please see the note below that was included in December newsletters:
As part of the required regular program evaluation cycle, the District, in partnership with the SAS Sex Education Advisory Board, surveys families to gather their input and feedback regarding the sex education programming offered in Saline Area Schools. Similar to all full-district surveys, the Saline Area Schools will work with their data collection partner, K12 Insight, to gather this information. The parent/family survey will be sent with a direct link via email on December 9th to the primary contact listed in our Powerschool database. This survey will close on December 20th. If you do not receive a survey, you can contact the research team at east@k12insight.com who help administer our surveys.
In addition to gathering this information from our families, we will also be issuing a survey to High School students to gather their perspectives from their experience with the Saline Area Schools Sex Education programming. Families can preview the High School student survey here. To opt-out your High School student from taking the survey please complete this form by December 13.
