Lutherville Lab Report
What's gone down & what's coming up at the leopards' lair.
March 3, 2023
This week we had the opportunity to host 20 BCPS administrators -- principals in the Dulaney feeder pattern (elementary, middle, high) as well as central office leaders and executive staff -- to visit our school. The work for administrators was an equity focus to close achievement gaps and raise outcomes, particularly for students schools have traditionally underserved -- Black and Hispanic students.
I was able to share the work we are engaged in to serve every child at Lutherville Lab well. Visitors conducted a learning walk through classrooms and in debrief were impressed with the learning environment in our classrooms, the dedication of our teachers, and their instructional efforts. The visit led to a really meaningful conversation to move all 15 schools forward and I'm so proud of our team for being central to that process! Executive staff were thoroughly impressed with the work we're doing at Lutherville Lab. Of course, that is not a surprise to me. :)
One other note -- Mrs. McGee is collecting plastic screw-on bottle caps from soda bottles, milk jugs, water bottles, etc. for a classroom project. If you have any to donate, please send them in to Mrs. McGee.
Enjoy the weekend, Leopard families!
-Mr. McComb

You can also take an online survey from Wednesday, March 8, through Sunday, March 19, in English, Spanish, Nepali, Urdu, Chinese, or Arabic.

BCPS Stakeholder Survey!
Team BCPS students in Grades 3-12, parents/caregivers, staff, and community members are invited to participate in the school system’s annual Stakeholder Climate Survey. The brief online survey will be available on the BCPS home page through Friday, March 3, 2023.
The survey is available in multiple languages for students, parents, and community members. This annual survey is an important way for us to listen to you, the BCPS community, learn your views, and be responsive to your feedback by taking action to improve our schools and school system. Survey feedback is used by our schools to refine School Progress Plans as well as by the system to measure progress toward goals in The Compass strategic plan.
The views of respondents will help to shape our budget, our staffing, and our programs. We hope all members of Team BCPS will participate in this important annual survey - we want to hear from you! Thank you for your ongoing support and collaboration on behalf of our incredible students and staff.
Haiku Writing Contest
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. BCPS is only seeking 17 syllables.
For the BCPS 2023 Haiku Contest, each student is invited to choose from among 10 pieces of student artwork and to write a haiku inspired by that artwork. (Below are only partial images of each artwork.) Entries for the annual BCPS Haiku Poetry Contest will be accepted from 12:01 a.m. on Thursday, February 16, through 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, March 2.
All haiku must be original and must be submitted using the online 2023 Haiku Contest Form. Winning haiku will be chosen at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. Winners will be announced on Monday, April 17, International Haiku Poetry Day, and will receive prizes.
As in prior years, the winning poems and additional selected haiku will be compiled into an online book with student artwork. Each school library will receive a print copy.
