From the Senior Leadership Team – Term 4, Week 5
Kia ora TNIS whānau,
We are now well into Term 4, and it’s been great to see learners enjoying the warmer weather and making the most of outdoor activities. As we approach the end of the busy term, we have a couple of essential reminders regarding learner safety and wellbeing.
Bike Safety
As the weather has improved, we have noticed an increasing number of learners biking to and from school, which is fantastic to see. However, we are also witnessing behaviours that place learners at risk, such as riding on the wrong side of the road, or across roads, not wearing helmets correctly, riding too fast near pedestrians, and travelling in groups that block pathways.
We ask all parents and caregivers to please discuss safe cycling practices with your child and ensure they understand their responsibility when biking in the community. Wearing a properly fitted helmet is essential, as is always following the road rules.
For helpful guidance on safe cycling for young riders, please read through the information below.
Working together, we can help keep all of our learners safe on their way to and from school.
Sun Safety and Hats
We are beginning to see a positive change in the weather, and with this comes increased time outdoors. TNIS encourages all learners to wear their school hats during break times and during PE and fitness classes.
Learners must wear a completely plain blue or black hat without a logo. These can be purchased through Kindo or from The Warehouse. Non-uniform hats are not permitted. Teachers will be encouraging learners without hats to find an activity in the shady areas of the school.
We also recommend being sun smart by applying sunscreen before coming to school each morning.
Thank you for supporting us in keeping our learners safe as they enjoy the summer months ahead.
Ngā mihi nui,
The TNIS Senior Leadership Team
