Mrs. Fields Fundraiser
We only have a few more days left for our Mrs. Fields cookie and cheesecake fundraiser! Orders can be taken in person, or online through the link or QR code. All order forms and money for in-person orders need to be returned to school on October 5. Families will be notified of a delivery date once we have confirmed that with the company. Orders are expected to be delivered prior to Thanksgiving. The money we raise will be used to fund student activities and to support our students in need. We appreciate everyone being great sales people!
Champions of the Charter
September's Champions of the Charter were recently chosen by the staff at Central School. September's theme is community. This month, these students were chosen for leading with empathy and kindness. The champions were announced at our Champion of the Charter assembly recently, and will be recognized at the board meeting at Shepherd Middle School on October 20th. We are very proud of the great example they set for their fellow students. Congratulations to: Jack A., Brody B., Cielo C., Declan C., Kylie D., Olivia D., Ellie F., Leilany H., Lillie J., Angel M., Sailer M., Kayden M., Max N., Joy O., Felix R., Melina S., Maren T.
Fall MAP Scores
Our students took their fall MAP tests in September. These tests help teachers to see which concepts their students need additional assistance on, and areas where students excel. Students were tested in the areas of math, reading, and language usage. The following students scored the highest for their grade level on each of the following tests:
5th grade Language Usage: Joey B.
5th grade Reading: Cielo C.
5th grade Math: Cielo C.
6th grade Language Usage: Maddox N.
6th grade Reading: Sarah D.
6th grade Math: Brinley W. and Maddox N. (Tie)
CONGRATULATIONS!
Perfect Attendance
In September, 149 Central students had perfect attendance. Students will receive a perfect attendance badge on their locker and are highlighted on a school bulletin board. Students that receive perfect attendance each month will be entered into a drawing for prizes, and will be able to help their class earn class rewards. House 6-1 had the best overall attendance, with 48% of students having perfect attendance for September. House 5-2 had 47%, House 5-1 had 39%, and House 6-2 had 30%. Miss Scutt's class had 70% of her class with perfect attendance, and Mrs. Conley's class was close behind with 60%. Having great attendance is very beneficial to the success of our students. Congratulations to all of our students with perfect attendance!
News from 5th Grade House 1
We kicked off our Geography unit in Social Studies by adding a little healthy competition. Students in Ms. Christensen's Social Studies classes spent time learning where the 50 states are located by using an online program called Seterra. Students enjoyed practicing and trying to beat their own times as well as beating classmates and students from Miss Kowalski's class. Makayla and Van were the winners from their classes and faced off against each other in the final round last Friday, September 11th.
Makayla won first place in under 1 minute and Van was close behind. Congratulations to both students, as well as all of the students who made it onto the leader board, with times under 2 minutes!
My favorite part of watching students learn their states is seeing their confidence grow as they beome better and better at remembering where the 50 states are located and seeing them continue to beat their own records. Having the students learn the 50 states benefits them in many ways. As we navigate the regions and landforms of the U.S. and discuss how America came to be, it is tremendously helpful to know where the 50 states are located. I am proud of how far students have come already and can't wait to see how they will utilize what they have learned!
5th and 6th Grade Boys' Basketball Tryouts
5th and 6th grade boys' basketball tryouts will be held on Tuesday, October 6 and Wednesday, October 7 at Central Intermediate School. Attendance at both days of tryouts is mandatory. 5th grade tryouts will be from 4:30-6:00, and 6th grade tryouts will be from 6:00-7:30. All boys who want to participate must have a current sports physical, a concussion form, and an insurance form completed and turned into the school office before the first day of tryouts. Boys who are interested need to tell their teacher, and they will be added to a list. The office will verify if students are missing any paperwork, and will send it home with your student. If you have questions, please contact the school office.
